This has been bothering me for a while now. I'm not into damage calcs, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but how does the "Half Enemy Defense = Double Base Power" equation work? Logically, it would work something like this: Normal Defense: 250 Base Power - 100 Defense = 150 Damage Halved Defense: 250 Base Power - 50 Defense = 200 Damage If you were to use a 500 Base Power move against a Pokemon with 100 Defense, you would deal 400 Damage by that logic. Maybe somebody can clarify how it actually works, because I've heard this so many times and yet it never made sense to me.
Its because Pokemon damage isn't just Base Power subtracted by Defense, there's a very complicated formula but the main part that would clear up your confusion is "Move Power x Attack Stat / Defense Stat". If we use your example in the formula, this is what we get: Normal Defense: 250 Base Power x 100 Attack / 100 Defense = 250 Halved Defense: 250 Base Power x 100 Attack / 50 Defense = 500 Those wouldn't be the real damage numbers for those stats because the formula is way longer (you can see the full thing on the Damage page on Bulbapedia) but hopefully this gives you a clear picture on the Power vs Defense part.
I personally feel like Snorlax had the largest fall from grace. Snorlax has landed higher on the food chain than Exeggutor over the years, but he also fell from a much, much higher place. Going from a top 5 best Pokemon in RBY (including the Mews), then becoming the best Pokemon in GSC, even in Ubers, falling all the way down to ZU in SV is a hell of a tumble.
For breakfast today I chopped up some fried hamsteak into small pieces and sprinkled them into a mixture of macaroni salad, guacamole, and Tapatio. Accompanied by various wheat products - the mixture kind of became a dip after a certain point.
