For sand sifters, I have just a 20 gallon tank with a shallow sandbed - I wanted a sand sifting starfish but there would not have been enough room/food for one long term, so instead I have a fighting conch. These things are VERY active, always out and about and they do a great job! I highly recommend them to nano keepers :)
Those Blue Linckia Star Fish look cool. As far as serpent star fish go, I once had a small salt water tank with a mated pair of clowns. I woke up one morning to see the sea serpent star eating one of them. They will attack sleeping fish.
People keep saying "sand sifting stars will slowly die in a small tank" I have had one for over two years in my 29 gallon and still is fat and happy. Stars generally die from poor or inconsistent water perimeters rather than food but we all know no one has those problems ;)
My asterina problem is getting wayyy bad. Acans and Zoas are suffering very noticeably. I have a harlequin on the way. 🤞🏼. I plan to take it to my LFS when/if the job is done.
My serpent starfish would constantly eat/kill any sea hair I would place in my tank. Once the first one died I assumed it was just luck of the draw, but when I bought a second one I noticed that the serpent star became very active as if I placed food in the tank. Shortly after he was on top of him and the hair was not strong enough to get away from him. With that said I have never had this issue before and I have had the two species in the tank before. Just something you may want to consider when introducing the two species in the same thank.
Hi Thein. Thank you for all the videos, all the hard work and time you guys invest into the hobby for the rest of us. It's is great to see someone discussing scientifically accurate data. Would you consider making a video on the propagation starfish? Can one even propagate starfish for profits or interest? Thank you. Rigel
Do you guys sell or stock stars? (locally) & off topic, Ironically I just watched a BBC youtube vid from Jan 2015 that has your footage in it about the rescue star and sand snifter.
I have seen the green brittle starfish eat a fish, but the fish was in a pair and one of the two had die days earlier. I feel that the fish might have stressed and got sick and the start fish eat him.
YES YES YES!! I had a Green bristle starfish that waited for my purple tang to swim above it. Then the bristle starfish in a flash jumped up and ate my adult sized purple tang. STAY AWAY FROM THOSE!!!
My puffer fish actually riped my sea star yesterday, i could find 3 arms, i putted them in the sump, 2 of them moved since last night.... i really hope they survive.... that fixe is driving me crazy, he eats my montys my xenias and now the starfish....
I have some tiny starfish that have seven legs and two or three are bigger they are bugger than my thumbnail and I am worried that they might hurt my coral. Hope not because I would hate to get rid of them they're so cute.:/
Besides the fact that the blue lankia is the hardest one to keep alive to almost impossible, why not talk about the other colors of it that are hardier. All this vid explained was which ones were coral safe and nothing else. Great One fact vid...
Gangsta Dresta Of course a children's cartoon should shape our thinking more than taxonomic nomenclature. You can base your world view on Nickelodeon, I'll base mine on science. Agree to disagree?
+goxcpre so i guess i wont call the mountain chicken a mountain chicken since its a frog. even though its called a mountain chicken. I guess I won't call a sea pig a sea pig because its not technically a pig underwater
some starfish are hard to keep alive cause they don't have brains and it's very hard for them to acclimate to a new environment if yoiu want a star in your tank get a chocolate chip Star they're only 10 at Petco sonic it doesn't survive in your tank at least it wasn't an expensive addition I've had one that lived about 4 months then died
BioOmen clearly you have just had bad luck with sand sifting stars.....i disagree with your comments, but hey that is what makes this hobby fun, what works for me may not for you
+The BioAstronaut Thanks for looking out. The BBC lawfully licensed the footage from me, so it's all good. There are some videos here that have been featured at the Smithsonian and even a maritime museum in Norway.
Me just noticing that this is a 10 year old video. This is great quality for how old it is man
I have a sand dollar in my tank. The sand bed has never looked so clean. Pure white. No more algae or fish poop on my sand bed. 👍👍

I like to comment until me story or make a video about what happened and you explain what happens to dead starfish descent sifting starfish😊😮
I have a 16” green serpent star in my reef tank. I love it. He’s amazing. I keep him fed. He has never attacked anything in my tank.
orange starfish looks like deadpool's baby hand
It does!
When my starfish Colonization showed up it was one of the greatest gift of God... so amazing to watch them grow and develop thriving

Than, as usual, fantastic video. Love the detail in your shots.
Rebuilding a Fromia in an aquarium? That is impressive!

beautiful and educational. thank you very much :)

Amazing video!
Well....... I really want a starfish now. Haha
Really cool video. So what would be an easy starfish for a beginner?
Isnt micro fauna good for the tank? Also can i keep one in a 16 gallon bio cube?
We love our blue star fish always on the front glass bit annoying when climbs on my coral doesn't hurt them just sits there for a while

What do you recommend to help keep the sand clean? I have a small clown trigger and don't think the hermits would last long.
i have seen a serpent star eat a 3 inch yellow tang
Was it dead
that's a pod, they are very benificial for your tank :)
The serpent star is absolutely revolting!
YES YES YES!! I had a Green bristle starfish that waited for my purple tang to swim above it. Then the bristle starfish in a flash jumped up and ate my adult sized purple tang. STAY AWAY FROM THOSE!!!

No energy. Falling asleep listening to this.
Is the blue starfish hard to keep???
hi, i have a fromia starfish that tends to stay near the surface of water , is that normal?
I have some tiny starfish that have seven legs and two or three are bigger they are bugger than my thumbnail and I am worried that they might hurt my coral. Hope not because I would hate to get rid of them they're so cute.:/
What is that critter at the top right @ 2:10. I have hundreds of them with no ID
+Sean Kelley Copepods and amphipods. They're really good for aquariums as I believe they help consume leftover food
I like this video! OwO i want to have some sea stars in my tank to..
Hi what camera you have used for video?
hey at 2:10 what is that little white critter? can anyone tell me. Are they bad?
I saw Plankton @2:12!
So can you multiply them by cutting a limb?
You can propagate them by purposely cutting of limbs, yes.
Besides the fact that the blue lankia is the hardest one to keep alive to almost impossible, why not talk about the other colors of it that are hardier. All this vid explained was which ones were coral safe and nothing else. Great One fact vid...

Just for the future, we should be calling them Sea Stars. They are not fish. They are Echinoderms!
Shut the fuck up you bitch. They are and forever will be starfish.
Gangsta Dresta Very classy. Hit me up when you get to 2015.
goxcpre. Do you watch SpongeBob? If yes than surely you'll understand why starfish should and forever be called starfish.
Gangsta Dresta Of course a children's cartoon should shape our thinking more than taxonomic nomenclature. You can base your world view on Nickelodeon, I'll base mine on science. Agree to disagree?

Adult chocolate stars also eat soft corals.

+Tidal Gardens Inc. cool
+Tidal Gardens Inc. oh yeah I got one more question, is the red starfish still life or in your possession?
star fish should be banned as pets. they are dieing and suffering as pet.
Cinnamon an Spice better than being left to dry whilst being alive and then being sold.
