Yeah! The bride and I saw them at our local preforming arts center a few summers back. She had listened to Tull as I was driving some place from time to time. Her reaction to being at a live show with him and the band was perfect. At first she didn't know how to take him, or the band for that matter. Then when Ian started to play and do his thing on stage she started to smile. Her words now not mine "he is a pretty amazing artist isn't he?". When his daughter took up the flute in music school as a teenager, she told her father (Ian Anderson) he was fingering the flute wrong (this was in an Ian Anderson interview). He relearned the flute correctly, and from that point on, Ian always played these songs with the correct way of playing. But I always thought if he had known the flute more technically when he composed these songs, would they have been as intense as they became? Jethro Tull is my favorite band. Lead singer Ian Anderson is a self-taught multi-instrumental / song writing genius. Now to really blow your mind, Ian was teaching himself flute for less than 2 years on what you just saw. That in itself is impressive, but also consider how many other instruments he was teaching himself at the time while also writing songs, choreographing concerts, etc. Another year or two and his flute playing goes deep into pioneering flute techniques. Over the years, many professional flute players on RUclips have been stunned by what they have seen. I've seen Jethro Tull Live 27 times over 26 concert tours. Anderson takes his concert entertainment performances very seriously. He is the finest live performing frontman in Rock history - Bar None. Anderson brings wit, intelligence, athleticism, theatrics, humor (both dirty and clean), social commentary, and a bit of tongue-in-cheek spice to his concerts. Tull's musical catalogue is quite intellectual and deep. You won't find many top hits but you will find hidden gem after gem after gem. I can already see you would enjoy exploring both their studio and live music over the years. For your next Tull song, I highly recommend Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick (live in London 1977) or the live '78 in Madison Square Gardens.
You jumped into the fire with Tull. A studio version of this song, which is one of their most hard hitting songs, would have been a slower walk into the world of Tull.

Back in the early 1990s, my daughter was taking flute lessons. On the door to the teachers office was a sign depicting two flutist, Ian Anderson and James Galway. The caption read, "Who do you want to be? We can make it happen."
The best jethro tull song in my opinion is Minstrel in the Gallery, if you want to try it, but there are so many good ones. When I was a teen, my two favorite bands were Iron Maiden and Jethro Tull.
Try Aqualung by them Empress😅
Ian Anderson is his name.
The lead singer and flutist right? He's so multitalented 👏👏👏
His name is Ian Anderson
This song is about how people push God aside for religion. God is inside of individuals, not a building.
You're right 👍
Listen to the whole album ( Aqualung) every song right in a row...About 20 times; and each listen will show you how Great Ian et al. are... Don't forget to do the same to Thick as a Brick, A Passion Play, Songs from the Wood, Benefit, Stand up...That'll keep you busy for a while...THEN is the time to react@
Defiantly not a gospel song it's critical condemnation of religion
My OCD can't take the crooked planter!!!
I like your plant.
Some years ago I talked to a women who played the transverse flute. She had learned everything you need to know. So she could play every song. I asked her if she can play Jethro Tull songs. She just answered, that is more than she can do.
If you're going to get into Jethro Tull, I'm a subscriber. Look for their performance of Thick As A Brick at Madison Square Garden
You're welcome here 😊 I'll be checking out more songs from Jethro Tull...
... his name is Ian Anderson...
Ian Anderson
Performances like this really stress the "Ian Anderson as a comical version of Roland Kirk" trope.
Such a great song. He's scolding those that had forsaken Jesus including the churches and temple people of power using sardonic poetry and prose. Find the words to the song Joy Jean.
Ian Anderson is his name
Please react to Band-Maid, Choose Me Official MV!
Hola. Me suscribí a tu canal por esta reacción. Muchas gracias por reaccionar tan sincera y emotivamente. Ian Anderson es quien toca la flauta y canta (de hecho, es multi instrumentista). My English is very bad, I am chilean (south américa). There is a chilean rapper that you maybe would react, he's name is Chystemc (it's mean something like "JokeMC") and the song is "La Pronoia del Sun Joke Fú". ruclips.net/video/I-1oJnmr6nk/видео.html here is the link to the official video (with subtitles in English and it's fine). Congratulations.
Thank you for subscribing!

Huge Tull fan here. A sweet, beautiful and innocent girl should not be listening to this.
Why not? It's the truth.
The song was an attack on what he felt was corrupted organized Christian religion.
he song is a critique of modern day religion and how it has been hijacked by certain interests and lost its way in the modern world.
Interesting! Thank you for this explanation 👍

No - this is not a gospel song, although I can see why you might think it is. It is Ian railing AGAINST organised religion. The guilt, the praying, the lack of individuality - everything. And can we take a minute to appreciate the efficiency of his lungs!
