--------
Ben Baller reminisced about his time at Aftermath Records, revealing some notable industry anecdotes. Ben joined Dr. Dre's label, initially named Black Market Records, after Dre departed from Death Row. During its early days, Aftermath faced considerable challenges, with projects like "Aftermath Presents" underperforming. A particularly striking moment Ben recalled was witnessing Dr. Dre decline a $100,000 offer to produce a beat for rapper Pharoahe Monch. Despite Aftermath’s early struggles, Dre remained selective about his projects, opting for long-term artistic integrity over immediate financial gain.
Ben also discussed the extensive team that surrounded Dre, including engineers and artists like Hitman, who co-wrote much of Dre’s "2001" album. He lamented how Hitman, despite his significant contributions, signed what Ben called “the worst deal in music history,” resulting in financial struggles and ending up working a regular job despite his talent. Reflecting on his journey, Ben Baller expressed no bitterness over being fired from Aftermath after an altercation related to business management.

This is what happens when you have an interview with two bozos who love hearing themselves talk.
Vlad needs to interview himself once a week. Get it out of your system dude.
🐀🇮🇱🗑️Vladdddddd shut up 🐀🇮🇱🗑️🐀🇮🇱🗑️🐀🐎🗑️vladddddd stop interrupting

😂😂
😁🤣💯
AHHHHHHHHA 😂😂😂😂lol💯👍
Vlad… STOP TALKING SO MUCH… ASK QUESTIONS AND LET YOUR GUESTS SPEAK PLEASE
He talks so much he interrupts the guest. He interjects his personal opinion too much sometimes. And other times he gets his facts wrong. He always repeats what he learns from other guest like a kid telling his mom what he learned in School today lol..... I'm still a fan thoe
He’s so annoying, yet he thinks he’s as good as Rogan. Rogan is just as interesting as his guests.
Facts!!!!
Don't watch
Not gonna do it. We’ve been pleading with Glad to allow the guest to talk 😂
Pharoahe Monch is one of the most underrated lyricists of all time
Shut up please
I saw him live in bk many years ago!!! Simon says…
TRUTH SPOKEN!!!!!
Too many rainbow style booty references, once is funny anymore is eye rolling.
Dre didn't produce anything good since let's say in da club
Vlad, Ben Baller was in the studio with Dr. Dre for years...his missed opportunity to being a producer is way bigger than you having produced some tracks for Big Ray Ray and Pookie out in the Bay 😂
Big ray ray 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂damn
You can't fuck with Big Ray Ray smokin that pookie puddle
yeah that was really obnoxious on vlad's part. And for the record it is about the connections and the ear
Vlad, for fucks sake, let your guests speak. You don’t need to bring up your mixtapes in every interview. You got Ben baller here talking about his years in the studio with Dr Dre sheesh
😂😂😂
Hittman getting the short end of the stick from his contribution to 2001 BAFFLING!!!!
100% definately
Best rapper that never blew, he made that album fro me
Vlad nobody cares about your stories that you keep tryna tell, we want to hear from the guest lol
Exactly, in a 1hr interview he waste about 35min of it talking about himself.
😂
Bruh I thought I was the only one that noticed that bs. Bruh so thirsty to make 💩 about his self
He never lets a chance go by to say “yeah I did too, or me too” lol
💯😂
Keep sub’ing and complaining for clout
@@Two3sf GOMD
“Mr.Me Too” head ass 😂😂😂
@@Two3sfNah the complaints are valid, Vlad needs to take a back seat
Damn, Vlad you really going contradict Ben baller on what he thought he could of been based off your experience with producing . Don’t be that guy bro
Bad look vlad
If I would have trained when I was younger I could have made it to the league - Ben Baller
@@MikeyOJ wylin fam 🤣😂🤣
That was crazy. Definition of putting your own insecurities on someone else.
4K projection
Vlad just because you failed as a producer doesn’t mean everyone else would’ve 😂😂
He’s still salty
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡What about VLAD when he is interviewing a famous drug dealer then he spins to story to talk about him almost selling a kilo. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
He was actually trying to tell him “don’t regret it as a missed opportunity because you found what you excelled at” but he said it in the douchiest way possible as usual

@@joojoobaw You again....
I can tell this dude has been exhausted by Vlad and seems like he’s regretting sitting in down with Vlad
Only interviewer more interested in retelling his own story😅than hearing the guest. We know Vlad…we know…
I love how VLAD is trying to inform the one person who was THERE with Dre about the affairs of Dre while the one person was there WITH Dre. Lol
Vlad hates being out smarted on Hip Hop history 😂
I want that Hittman interview. I remember thinking he was going to blow. He was great on 2001
He should have
Vlad arguiywith someone about themselves is so classic Vlad 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️...
The Firm was dope too.
Hittman, Bishop, Slim da mobsta, never got their dues.
They were all good lyrically but they lacked the superstar qualities that made Snoop, Em, 50 and Kendrick hot

Bishop and slim couldnt make a hit. Bishop had that one song I forgot which video game it was on. West coast was dead around that time.

TI$A hats in their time were going CRAZY.
Dre makes beats but Dre has also jacked a lot of lesser producers work.
I heard about this
lol he tried to steal a name of an already established record label called Black Market. Then he tried to buy the name of the company for only $100,000 lol
Dats why Quik flashed on him on U Ain't Fresh from Balance and Optionz...
$100k can’t even get Mike Elizondo on the keys.
😅😅Didn't Dre say send me half your budget
lol you could maybe get him to play 2 notes on his saxophone for 100k
@@joojoobaw You again....
Ending up at guitar center is crazy
Ben Baller gets the point of the interview, so many others come on here and are trying to be so tough they make the interview boring.
Yea. I enjoy the walk down memory lane. Hearing all the side stories
Vlad forgot to add that "big meech flew me out" shit
Just because Vlad couldn’t make it. Making beats doesn’t mean Ben couldn’t.
Music aside, this is just more confirmation that Dr. Dre seems to be a real piece of work as a human being.
I’m surprised vlad didn’t say “ oh I’ve interviewed Michael jai white”
This dude was an integral part of the West Coast from The Bay to LA.
How come im barely learning about this man right now?
vlad def get hitman an interview.he absolutely made the 2001 album waaaay back in 99'.get mel man,and sam sneed interviews also✌️
How come nobody ever says “Vlad, Dr. Dre and DJ Premier aren’t the only producers” 🤣
There’s hella producers getting money. You don’t have to be a “super producer.” He tells on himself every single time. Because he couldn’t make it work he thinks nobody else can.
😊 yeeh
Respect to Ben Baller. Never knew he planted so many stakes in Cali gangsta rap with all the legends.
Damn I thought Hittman was next up back then
He dropped the ball by getting the “difficult to work with” label. He got big opportunities after 2001, he didn’t have the charisma to follow it up. It’s some videos about his “downfall” on here
Facts! Him and that dude six deuce.
Hitman was supposed to be the new Snoop
@@joojoobaw You again....
So, basically, Hittman signed a fucked up “publishing” deal and not a “record” deal? Damn!
That’s what I got out of it tbh 😬
They shevelled Hitman and killed his momentum

VLAD : Its my podcast.....
No one shall dare speak over me,,,,,
I shall have the last word.
Ay yo!!! Vlad ~ "I did some producing." 🤣
Compton is a classic. Masterfully produced
The moving and mastering on Compton sounded like shit.
”Compton” was a good album
Mid
Dre could not use Black Market because my boy Cendrick label in Sac Town owned that label. Compton album was good sold album.
Dre offered Ced $100,000 for the name and Ced said no. This was around the same time that Ced was trying to get a distribution deal with Tommy Boy Records.
@@BIGgamez78 Might be true, but 100, 000 is low, he making sells with Lynch, Rated . 100, 000 was nothing to him
@@erickennedy8534 if 100,000 was nothing to him then he would have payed his artists better. Lynch and Triple Beam have stated numerous times that Ced didn’t pay them fairly. Some of the producers on some of the albums stated the same. 100,000 back then was definitely a lot of money. Dre only wanted the name and not any ownership of Ced’s company. Ced could have rebranded the company and still sold the same amount of albums. Albums were selling because of Lynch and Raided not because of the Black Market name.
@@erickennedy8534 what might be true? All of what I said was already confirmed last year by Dave Weiner on the Holding Court podcast. Dave worked for Priority Records at the time and was the reason Black Market had a distribution deal through Priority Records.
If 100,000 was nothing to Ced then why did his artists say he wasn’t paying them fairly? Lynch and Triple Beam has stated this numerous times in the past. 100, 000 was a lot of money, especially back then. Dre only wanted the name and didn’t want nothing else from his company. Ced would have sold the same amount of albums regardless of the company name. Black Market albums were selling because of Lynch and Raided not because of the name of the record company.
@@BIGgamez78 they singed the deal. 100,000 is not enough , because had name for five years. going spend half that marketing for a new name.triple beam not selling shit.
That's the main reason Dre doesn't release any albums any more . The next episode was suppose to be his last album because last album sales or ticket sales is the main thing artist are measured to when they want to negotiate their contracts. If you last album is a flop it can reduce negotiating power. So Dr. Dre doesn't need to make another album because it's no way he can recreate his old sound and that time has come and gone.
Yep
He can recreate it easily. It just may not sell
In journalism you are supposed to TELL a story without being IN the story but GLAD can’t help himself.. MAIN CHARACTER SYNDROME
So Dre did exactly what Eazy and Suge did to him with Hittman.
You soon realise Hittman signed a fucked up “publishing” deal via Big Yacht Publishing via Taz Arnold as Ben Baller stated that Hittman was signed to. He did say that he was supposed to sign to Dre, but signed to Taz instead. So, technically, he wasn’t really signed to Dre.
Vlad stop projecting your failed producing on other people! Hr could’ve been all-time great you don’t know..
Go get Hitman on here🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Vlad, the man said he had an ear and would've been great. Respect that. Geez...
There is an interview of Eminem and Dre in 2000, I believe promoting Em's 2nd album, and they were asked which rappers they were listening to or would advise people to check out. Dre's response was Pharoahe Monch. Crazy. I wonder why Dre switched up since it sounds like Ben's story happened within the same time frame.
He's picky with who he works with. I don't remember the exact explanation, but in Raekwon's book, Raekwon said Dr. Dre refused to work with more than one Wu member. He loves Wu Tang, but for reasons I can't remember, he told Raekwon that if he produces an album for Raekwon, he will never work with one of the other members. He's still a huge fan, but whoever he worked with in Wu, it was only going to be that one member - and it just happened to be Raekwon.
Also, 100 000 USD for Dr. Dre is probably waaaay under market value. Who knows... If he started working with artists for 100 000 USD, then perhaps the amount he could charge would decrease. There is the business aspect too. Money isn't everything, but why would you do anything that could potentially decrease your market value?
Wasn't enough money in it, Champ.
@@cubedmackafter taxes here in CA you’ll lose half of it basically
For Dr. Dre to complain that he was being jerked by Eazy-E when he was at Ruthless Records, and then he gives Hitman one of the worst music contracts in rap music history, shows how dirty Dr. Dre is
That ninja knew exactly what he was doing to Hitman. That Chronic 2001 album has sold over 13,000,000 copies worldwide. Can you imagine the amount of publishing Hitman should be getting if Dr. Dre wasn’t a crooked shiesty businessman.
Hitman could’ve retired from working with that songwriter publishing. But Hitman has to work at Guitar Center to make ends meet😢. Come on Dr. Dre, call Hitman up and tell him that you have a $1,000,000 check waiting for him to pick up from the Aftermath office… if you have a heart
Damn so dre really did him dirty?
Could you elaborate on the contract situation? But I'm not even surprised these hollywood people always on some bs
You soon realise Hittman signed a fucked up “publishing” deal with Big Yacht Publishing via Taz Arnold as Ben Baller stated that Hittman was signed to. He did say that he was supposed to sign to Dre, but signed to Taz instead. So, technically, he wasn’t really signed to Dre.
@daekwondaprophet1121 It's just horrible that Hittman is not getting any publishing or royalties from that Chronic 2001 album. 13,000,000 sold worldwide during the CD era. Hittman shouldn't be working at Guitar Center to make ends meet😪
He did not have a publishing deal with Dre, it was a 3rd party that's why he got jerked.😮
Vlad you gotta get Sam Sneed up there!

For decades there has always been the narrative that Dre & Snoop were screwed over on Deathrow...Dre on Ruthless too. But nobody talks about how Dre & Snoop screwed over their own artists too.
Yeah, very hypocritical of Dre. He knows what it’s like to get screwed over and to turn around and do it to somebody else is messed up. I never heard about snoop messing anybody over.
