I got pulled over for speeding 2 weeks ago. By the time the cop got to my door, my window was down with my license in left hand. He said you were speeding. I said i know. He took my license went to his car, came back and said slow it down. Im black.

What does that have to do with anything? Obviously that's not what happened here. A black man has to behave like a saint and get shot in the chest so everyone gets on his side. This is crazy.
You have the right to conduct yourself in that manner. (Wise choice). Mr. Hill has the right to conduct himself in the manner he chose. The police, however are professional law enforcement, not feelings enforcement officers. They are held to a higher standard.
Just enforce the law.

I was pulled over for speeding as well and I’m a young Hispanic man and all I did was roll my window down have everything ready and complied, nothing more nothing less. No need to argue or talk back. He let me go with a warning.

My black son is 21 years old and does like to drive fast. But he already knows if I ever have to go down to the jail and pick him up for his bad behavior, it's gonna between me and him! At the end of the day, my son knows how to be respectful....So, I don't have to worry about it. He will roll his window down and he will do whatever the cop says and come home safe.
Even if he's cooperative, there is nothing to say that he will come home safe. The cops are not law makers. They are suppose to be law enforcers. They were wrong. The "probable cause" is the traffic stop for speeding and reckless driving per the officers observations.
Additionally the Supreme Court has well established case law Pennsylvania vs Mimms 434 U.S. 106 (1977). This means a law enforcement officer can order a driver out of any vehicle and conduct a "Pat down" search. This does not violate a citizens 4th Amendment rights.
This ruling established policy across all law enforcement agencies for decades now.
This also means an officer is not required to ask a person over and over to exit a vehicle. It is not a negotiation or deliberation you shall comply to the legal order.
Was the officer aggressive and impatient, answer is yes however not illegal.

That does not justify forcibly removing someone from a vehicle and placing them in handcuffs. Notice how their reasoning wasn’t his traffic violations, it was that he rolled his window up (which he is allowed to do). Clearly this escalation was not a result of traffic violations, it was their ego being hurt.

People should understand that there is a customer service aspect of the work they do. Just like you wouldn’t expect a customer service rep to curse you out because you get upset, we should expect law enforcement to not get upset and violate your rights because you respond to them in a way they don’t like.

Tyreek rolled up his tinted window, refused to get out the vehicle, and kept his hands out of sight. All three of those things are dangerous to officers - because he could be getting a weapon.
Now, I do think the first officer was overly aggressive. However, Tyreek created an officer safety situation, and the cop was justified in taking him out of the vehicle.
Florida allows a tiny. Police are public servants and must maintain professionalism. Other people have said and done more without any of this happening. Tyreek’s rights were actually violated.

I got pulled over in 2017 for a driving infraction. Coincidentally, I was charged with a dui. As the officer went to trap my hands I realized he must’ve thought I would resist because I’m black. I was tired and drunk so I nicely told him “man I’m ready to go lay down”. He took me to jail, and I got out after I sobered up. I haven’t drank a drop of alcohol since. Have a good day.

But it sure looks good in court when they show the behavior of both of them… no one will win any points in the way they both acted like petulant children!

When I get pulled over now I’m compliant and also admitting why I got pulled over. If I’m speeding that’s on me and it’s my job to make that officers job easier and safer for the both of us. I have been a Police Officer for 26 years, I am Cuban/Puerto Rican. I have always taught my kids and friends how to respond on a traffic stop to put the Officer and the driver in the best possible position.
A traffic stop is one of the most dangerous things a Police Officer does. Ot is not about race it is about safety! Stop with the race card!

I was arrested and detained because my car was on their computer as stolen coming back across border from Tijuana. I complied and was put in handcuffs. No way he would have been put in handcuffs if he complied. Zero empathy deserved here.

I have said it over a thousand times, that as a black male, when you get pulled over by law enforcement, that you comply (obey officers), regardless if you are right or wrong!
When you fail to comply, things could get out of hand and you could face getting beaten or unfortunately--getting killed!
Most officers will sometimes be very lenient if you follow orders, but sometimes you also run into an officer who wants to establish his power.
Once again: Comply and live to see another day.
I have never been involved in a situation with law enforcement were things got out of hands and I faced being brutalized or staring at death.

Tyreek Hill endangered the life of people around him.
From the first moment he was verbally aggressive towards the officer, who started things politely.
Hill was not cooperative with the officers.
The moment he lowered his tinted window, he created a possible life dangering situation for the police offers.
He`s just committed speeding, then acting non-cooperative and then covering himself.
The proper reaction should've been to break his window the moment he lowered it.
Hill needs to publicly apologize and the officers collectively need to get a 10 yards penalty for encroachment.

Easy. Tyreek acted a fool. He was driving and behaving wrecklessly (100mph without a seatbelt on), had the illegal tint and wasn’t listening to simple directions. That one cop that dragged him out was out of line, but Hill acted like a fool.

I’m white. I was doing restaurant delivery in primarily black West Philly several years ago. Made a delivery to an old age home one night. As I pull away, I see a cop car behind me. I zig zag across West Philly towards my next customer house but cop stayed behind me.
Cop finally pulled me over. I told him I was doing restaurant delivery. He shines flashlight into food on my passenger seat. Claimed they’re searching for a white robbery suspect wearing a red coat and blue jeans just like me! I repeated back, “A white robber in West Philly?” Cop said “yes.”
First off, no way he can see color of my clothes/ pants while driving behind me unless he watched me walk out of old age home.
White cop tells me to get out of my car. I complied. He frisked me. Told me to walk to black cop partner with my hands on car. I complied. Shines flashlight in my car. Apologized to me and said I can go.
Later, I filed complaint with Internal Affairs. Internal affairs interviewed me. They denied my complaint but acknowledged that cops should have had robbery victim brought to me to see whether I was the robber!
Bottom line was that cops will be cops regardless of race most of the time. Just comply with their bs and go through the process later to seek Justice.

What Foxworth was referring to was the fact that there are more instances of law enforcement using excessive force with minority groups, a fact that is typically overlooked or dismissed in the public eye, so it has become commonplace in our households (private) to outline small things we can do when dealing with the police that can hopefully keep us out of those situations.

Both parties were wrong. Tyreek didn't have to disobey the simple instructions and the cops didnt have to react like that just because he didn't. His biggest make was the way he was talking to the police not realizing that even though that make change his life, it didn't change the color of his skin.
I (17 year old white male) was a passenger in a 69 Ford Mustang fastback with another white male that was pulled over in Houston Texas coming back from a church event on a week night back in 1980. We were coming off the interstate exit just blocks from my home. Police said we were exiting on to the feeder a little to fast. Driver gave his license and insurance to the officer. Almost immediately the police officer demanded the driver get out of the car. 10 seconds after that my door was yanked open and I was dragged out of the car and thrown up against the car. At that point my world changed forever. Because this was the first time I had ever had any reaction to law enforcement. I had never been in any trouble in my life. Neither had the driver. My point here is that what happen to Tyreek is not unusual at all. And it just dont happen to Black men. Stop trying to make this about race. It was not. In the end they didnt give the driver a ticket and let us continue down the road because we did not resist in any way and we complied to everything they wanted. I got home and told my mother about it and she immediately and sternly dismissed my plea for sympathy and told me son they were doing their job. They have no idea of the situation they were walking in to when they pulled us over. And the best thing to do is comply to what they want immediately!
In all , the excessive force of power is what needs to be addressed this is the problem with policing and lack of training as well as recruiting.

I'm black. I'm also a cop. But I didn't make the career change and become a cop until I was almost 30. What these talking heads needs to understand is that FOR THE MOST PART you attitude towards the LEO that stops you is going to dictate how that stop is going to go. For me, I really only give tickets to people on a stop if they do something particularly stupid or dangerous or if they're being rude or disrespectful. If they're being cool and cooperative it's for something like a little speeding, I'll usually just give a warning and let people go on their way. I've been stopped multiple times for different by LEOs of different races. Sometimes I even had guns in the car. Not once did I ever drive away with a ticket. Because I was always respectful to the LEO that stopped me and I got that respect in turn.
Albeit, I don't think the amount of force used on hill was necessary. He was clearly making moves to exit the vehicle, and he should have been given a chance to. That said, if I was presented with the same level of uncooperativeness that Hill gave those officers, I would have ordered him out of the car and placed him in handcuffs too.
