      Thank you so much. The trip was incredible, and the solar panel was definitely needed on it. It was the perfect opportunity to test it. I’m not a big fan of watching reviews from people just unpacking a product and judging it right on the spot. So to me it was important to truly test it, same with my other reviews. :)

      I bought this and it does not work at all. No charge on any of my battery packs or my phone. Go online and read reviews. So many others have said this. Should have read them first instead of listening to REI. Just glad I found this out before I depended on it in an actual situation where I needed it.

    Thank you thank you thank you for actually reviewing this in less than ideal weather circumstances, and in the wilderness. Far more useful than any other review I've found so far. Thank you so much. That means a lot to me :) You will be happy with this solar panel. I used mine last year again on a 2-week trip, charging a power bank every day, and it worked perfectly. Hi Andrea, It won't be long now. I think I prefer the GoalZero Nomad7 with the Venture 30 power bank I bought last year. Folds smaller, with a lighter and more simple stand plus a cable to panel connector for more adaptability and capacity. The panel can stay outside my pack while the larger power bank can be in a secure pocket.

    • @adventuresandreams
      @adventuresandreams  2 года назад

      It looks great as well. It seems like there is no wrong choice when it comes to GoalZero. I should compare the weight at some point. Back in September, I used my solar panel for two weeks straight, but I attached a much bigger power bank to it. Thinking about that setup, the Nomad7 with its cable and pocket would have been nice for it.

      Thanks for watching those videos! I'm glad they helped you make a choice. Yeah, the BioLite solar panel was a true disappointment for me, but others have commented on that video that they had no problem so far. All I know is that I tested the Goal Zero quite a bit in all sorts of weather, and it was amazing. After shooting this video, I took it on a two-week trip to charge all of my devices. It kept everything charged without a problem. On a rainy day, I put the panel outside of the tent and connected my power bank with a cable underneath the rainfly. I still got a charge this way, and I kept my camera equipment, phone, and everything else running. I mostly use a much more powerful power bank now instead of the Flip 12. Good luck with it! :)

I never charge the phone or camera directly, although I did test it to make that it works if I ever need it. I find it best to recharge a power bank during the day while I'm out and about and charge my phone and other devices in the evening and at night. My power bank has three outputs, so I can charge multiple things with it at the same time. I always need the phone for filming and my offline map app, so it wouldn't work that well to connect it to the solar panel. The Guide 12 has same battery power as the flip 12. Their both 12watts. Both have their plus to them. The flip can be left on the Nomad 5-10-20 models, or flip24/36, And used as a passthrough charging, Since the panel of the nomad 5 gives 1amp, and the flip takes in 1amp/output 1amp. if the panel gets shaded on for abit. Then you won't loose performance. It'll just take some of the internal battery of the flip to supply. Then regive solar power back. The Guide 12 can do same, but can't attach directly. But it has epic 2amp output for AA batteries now vs their 1amp on guide 10plus model. So now it can use for more current devices. Or supply 1amp in and send that i think passing to a device if you set it to 1amp mode, Working similar to flips.
      Would've been neat for maybe 2amps in. But i guess that's kinda overkill on super charging AA's in a hour or so without much cooling. So 4hours works on 1amp.

    I bought one - this product should not be relied upon for direct charging, in that capacity it is flipping useless. It should be sold with at least the smallest Flip power bank included and never sold seperately as it is useless without one. Too small and weak. By the time you have bought the power bank to make it useful, you could have spent the same or less on a decent folding panel, such as the Big Blue 28W. Overhyped, over priced, relying on this will leave you literally powerless. I like to buy from non-Chinese when possible, but this is letting the side down badly.
    E.G.1: Three hours of direct bright sunshine outdoors plugged into a 13000mAh (v big) smartphone (BV7100) = +3%
    E.G. 2: Four hours on a window sill, south facing, sunshiny with passing clouds, = -13% - about four times the amount of battery I would use in a day. I put this down to the phone constantly, and I mean constantly, alerting me that is now charging, now not charging, now charging, now not charging, now charging again, now not charging, now charging, now not charging - ad-infinitum.
    P.S. dear Goal Zero engineer - A solar panel not generating power when the light gets low is NOT A FEATURE! FFS! SO DUMB!
    In kindness, They should not have made this product - it is going to seriously harm their reputation. It may well be the case that their larger panels are great, fantastic even, I'll never know. I am going to get a small cheap Flip just to make it useful, but I suspect that this will be my last ever purchase from Goal Zero.

      Thanks for watching my video. I agree with you that by itself, it is not much use. I would only use it with a power bank, and even the Flip12 is too small. I never go on day and camping trips without a power bank, so I wouldn't rely on it in that way anyway. A couple of years ago, I was out in the wild for two weeks and charged my power bank with it every day, even on cloudy days. I needed it for my phone and filming equipment, and the solar panel didn't let me down. I chose this one over the folded versions because I wanted something very sturdy that can take a bit of a beating when I stuff it into a backpack for instance. It would be nice if it charged faster, but it has always worked for me so far.
