V-22 Osprey: The Incredible Aircraft That Can Do It All!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 июн 2024
- The V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft.
The Pentagon concept with future Osprey variants is to build upon the lift, speed, and versatility of the aircraft’s tiltrotor technology and give the platform more performance characteristics in the future. While few specifics were yet available, this will likely include improved sensors, mapping, and digital connectivity, even greater speed and hover ability, and better cargo and payload capacity. Other upgrades will probably see next-generation avionics and new survivability systems such as defenses against incoming missiles and small arms fire.

Cool! 0:54 you can see the flow of the air through the rotors
The jet wash @1:33 is phenomenal when it's above you, grab what ever you can to hold on to your space, or vacate the area!
@@MrEdolsian I can imagine, i can see it clearly its insane. All it needs now is some afterburners and the thing would fly like a UFO 😂. Seriously though, the OSPREY is a beast
My glory days at Sikorsky Aircraft was from the late 1980s thru the early 1990s, when I worked as an A&P Service Mech who also held a class III FAA med certification so before you ask, yes lots of flight time in MH 53 E, CH 53 E, and SM 80 1.
Thar being said, I am a huge fan of the Osprey, and feel it is a brilliant design.
Yes, unfortunately there have been crashes involving fatalities, but so have 53s.
I've seen the white top Presidential Ospreys come by the plant, and am always in awe of the impressive sight and sound of the Osprey.
This is also the future of vertical lift aircraft, as higher speeds become more of a requirement, along with distance.
Good video, very informative.

😍My Ultimate Favorite"😍
Excellent Video, Thankyou 😍
Never on an osprey but I sure miss the “Army life” 🇨🇦 Vet
Ospreys better not be stopped but continuously improved, esp enhancements to further lower costs on operation & maintenance. It's currently the only aircraft that can be modified to serve as AEWACS plane on non-CATOBAR carriers of Japan, India, UK, Australia, France... While also can serve as STOVL aircraft befitting on the first island chain where threats that runways will be destroyed IF a hot war breaks out
Yea absolutley agree with you brother!
Really? "Currently the only aircraft that can be modified to serve as AWACS plane on non-catobar carriers." Why do Italy, and the UK both use Merlin Helicopters as AWACS? India is going to buy the Merlin, as are Australia. The Osprey is way to big for the Spanish, italian, Japanese, Turkish, or Australian carriers. The only other countries that could operate the osprey aer the UK, and france but it's preposterous maintenance costs mean they won't have them. The Merlin is being considered by Australia, Turkey, Japan, and Spain as their sea borne AWACS.
V-280 bro
I love following this!!!! keep it coming! I remember in the 80's making model planes of the time.. always been so interested! and love knowing what our country is doing to protect us! miss the airshows since bein on east coast, not many in my area at all
Yeah, “protecting us”. Our own government opening our borders wide open two years ago and allowed over 50 million illegal aliens into our country in the within the last decade. Oh yeah, and waging war on their political opposition, censoring their opposition, allowing enemy spy balloons to fly over every one of our military bases and nuke sites and then across the entire country while getting us involved in a proxy war and putting us on the brink of WW3. I wouldn’t necessarily say our country is “protecting” us
This beast visited our FOB in Somalia and landed 40metres close to my tent, it blew away and tore my tent into pieces. All my personal effects were scattered away over 300metres
Wow, now that's a lot of Ospreys.
Very good! Thanks for the representation
Just like any new tech, it takes a lot of development.
Working at Bell we also had the eagle eye tilt rotor. It was unmanned with a drive system derivative of the huey . Later it was suggested it be used to recover downed pilots with a lowering door in the lower fuselage. Scary but if you have no other options...
Nice that's a lot of aircrafts.
In a war environment where airports are not safe from artillery, vtol is a must !
Impressive aircraft

Its a death trap, another crash last month. I remember them trying to get the thing to get the thing to fly since the early 80s. We paratroopers had a saying about the V-22 in the 80s, 'Anything that needed 13 computer to fly had to be unlucky'.
I like it just out of the fact that it looks like the Vertibird from the Fallout Series. :D
more like vertibird looks like v-22
I’m looking at several right now, across the runway at RAF Mildenhall
Nice
Damn on min 0:42. How fast it can fly up :o
Still waiting for a spooky gunship version of this aircraft....that'd be totally bada$$!

@@trevorjennings589, I cannot die anymore. So, I'm good. Thanks for asking.
wowsers!
I could not find where you specifically referenced why this aircraft was a shame. Was your title designed to attract clicks?
Who can hate this master piece? Jealousy makes you nasty.
Envy is the sincerest form of flattery.
It’s not about hate, it’s just that there are choppers that could do the job better. Like The King.
Australian navy needs to buy this aircraft as we have 2 carriers no aircraft no fleet aircover also need f35
The concept has been in development for nearly 60 years. Still being improved but far more than half baked.
I'm a big devotee of the "K.I.S.S." (Keep It Simple Stupid) method of system design (any kind of system), sometimes you can't though. I've had the stinkeye towards the Osprey since the beginning of the program. While it's pretty much part of every government program that they end up with a flawed system and think they can "fix it in production", and they usually can. The Osprey has been fairly successful, I think there were probably better designs available (better as in "can do the same jobs as good or better for cheaper").
I was in the Army, part of the MLRS program in the 80's and again in the early 2000's. That system has evolved so much, the HIMARs is amazing. I'm not sure what the computer is for that Fire Control System (FCS). But, I think as of 2006, it was still like a x286 or x386. Didn't need a ton of compute power for all that firepower.
There was an idea for an S-3 Viking replacement using the V-22.
6:54 I thought of this idea myself, and I'm glad it's being pursued! Get the best of both worlds, the hover efficiency of a helicopter, with the speed of a jet. Amazing! Definitely has potential to become a gunship as well.
Definitely not the speed of a jet. Not by a long shot.... The next generation possibly but not the current V-22.

@@mariusalinpostolache1179 Nope, tilt rotor or the more advanced concept they showed off, can be adapted for gunships as well.

When they become autonomous, no more troops will need to die. It already resembles a huge drone right?
Compared to choppers, it flies faster and farther. It's the best transportation for civil purpose in rural area especially far islands.
It would great to see a four engine long body osprey.
Two its enough🤒
Would waste more fuel
I thought it was a gimmick until I researched it. The Navy Procurement system has made it great. It is expensive but has become the world's safest aircraft. By its nature it is faster and has more range than any helicopter. This is because a helicopter is limited by the rotar speed that is the side where the rotar iis advancing cannot exceed the speed of sound. The v22 avoids the critical problem that helicopters face by rapidly transitioning to the aircraft mode while helicopters spend a longet time in an altitude where they can't autorotate if the engine fails.
The airforce have grounded all V22's but the marines and navy are still flying theirs. Japan has also grounded all V22's.
Thats because We ready to die as soon as we get on one, but no better way to travel lol
Slife has an ulterior motive.
@@RodP0351dang, I looked this video up after hearing about the 3 marines who just died on one of these things during a training exercise in Australia. I pray they knew Jesus and comfort to their families and they come to know Jesus.
I'm surprised one of these hasn't been turned into a gunship..
They have.
There's a separate program for that.
It would shoot itself!
That’s another issue. The design prevents you from incorporating forward facing guns. It other words, you would either hit the props or as the case with the floor mounted gun, induce massive vibrations and/or failure.
@@dougmoore5923 Not necessarily a problem for tiltrotors, you can turn a tiltrotor into a gunship, but this particular design wasn't designed with that in mind.
"Okay, Goose 7. Proceed to sector 112 LZ and rendezvous with Alpha Bravo Tango. Over." - HECU Marine Command.
It's an amazing aircraft. I think it's important to understand the A/C does not have the capabilities as a helicopter landing into confined areas. So Pilots need to be more careful in those environments.
No different than a Chinook really
What happens to the bullets that fall in the sea at 4:44?
👌👌👌
This new tech looks great but also looks like a massive sitting target in a real war situation.
Well timed Tilting of the rotor prevents it being a sitting duck
Attach the new tank below the Osprey to increase tank range!
As impressive as they are, they are like the Robenson helicopter, you would never get me in one, unless i had too lol.
Let's examine the crash numbers from the last 10 years.
The Army operates about 2,100 UH-60's including the national guard and special operations:
>The current Army Acquisition Objective, or AAO, for its UH-60 Black Hawk fleet currently sits at 2,135 aircraft.
The Navy has about 550, and the Air Force has about 100. Lets call it a total fleet of about 2,800.
There are about 450 V-22's across all variants. Roughly 6.25 times smaller of an overall fleet so the 60's would have to crash 6.25 times more often to make the rate equal. Over the last 10 years, here's how the two airframes compare for accidents:
V-22: 7 crashes
H-60 : 51 crashes
For the 60 to crash less it would have had to keep their number below ~44
So no it is as safe if not safer than most rotorwing aircraft the military uses
Could we instead of movable Rotary blade design, use the Jet Engine in the same way?
Imagine Canada purchasing Osprey 🤯

I was a structural design engineer. I worked on the Osprey in 1984 at Grumman and then in 1986 at Bell, when the project was, at that time, put on hold. It is a very complicated aircraft, in a mechanical sense. I never had a handle on the design overall, and many many hands were laid on that program over the decades. I think it is a mess and will remain a mess. Just my sense of it.
Was it thought up because of the disaster of Operation Eagle Claw?
Do it all, including mysterious crashes.

Why not keep the vertical prop but add jet engines for horizontal flight?
Because dual engines are heavy and costly
Jet engines are extremely inefficient at low altitude.
Says no one who has to actually touch one.
It would be nice to replace the propellers with jet engines similar to f 35
Jets proved to be highly inefficient and the concept was already tried and rejected with the Do 31.

In addition to its capabilities, the Air Force has grounded all 52 of their aircraft because of a clutch issue!
temporary, you don't fool anyone's knowledge with stupid comments
Grow up. The aircraft has been plauged with problems. In fact, it will be replaced! Mind your own business punk!
F-35 was also grounded due to ejection seat problem recently. But it's fixed now. V-22 will be the same.
Jim Slife has an ulterior motive in issuing the grounding order for the CV-22s as the rare clutch issue has been known about since 2010 and the Marine Corps has developed and implemented procedures to deal with it should it occur. The Marine Corps and the Navy continue to operate their MV-22s and CMV-22s.
Perhaps you heard that they grounded the entire fleet of CH-47 Chinooks a couple of days ago. Been in service since 1962(60 years). Doesn't mean it is a horrible aircraft. If I'm not mistaken, it is the fastest chopper in the Army, and one of the most successful aircraft of all time.

I’ll take the more reliable Chinook over the Osprey. Chinook can carry 70% more troops at about half the cost to purchase & operate. Osprey has the better range and speed.
Osprey also has the better safety record... so idk why you say the Chinook is more reliable. Also the Osprey is more expensive but you also have to factor in it will go double the distance in half the time compared to most rotorcraft so the cost to operate isn't as bad as it seems.
