MoP dropped in september and my parents scraped up some money to buy me the expasnion and a subscription and every day before and after school i'd sit and just play my panda and it is such a nostalgic memory for me. i miss playing world of warcraft with my dad more than anything else

@PsIXaR0 Nathria was the highlight of Shadowlands minus Stone Legion General that boss was ass but the Raid over all was great. Torghast could have been great it's issue was you had to do it so it became a chore if it was for Cosmetics, different game play, mounts and pets and didn't effect your player power it would have been really good. The cons however far out weighed the positives. I only place it slight over Warlords cause at least it was devoid of content like that abomination.

MoP was actually the expansion that kept me from quitting WoW. I had already cancelled my subscription, but then, they dropped the MoP announcement. I always loved to play Martial Arts inspired classes and the monk announcement, as well as the pseduo-asia-setting hooked me instantly. I had very high hopes for the expansion and when it arrived, I was still blown away. The immersion, the art, the music, the storytelling... to this day, MoP is still my favorite expansion.

It's literally impossible to graduate high school, get a place of your own, and afford groceries, bills, and gas on a normal 40 hour/week job. Young adults are stuck in their parents homes until they are 25-30 which degrades their mental state.
I'm 35 years-old and have been working since I was 16 and just this last year I managed to get a mortgage loan that I won't be able to pay off until I am around 55-60 years-old. I work full time as a janitor on the night shift and part time at a gas station and average 65 hours a week and I BARELY make it and usually only have a hundred or two left by the end of the month.
There is a reason humans were better back then, my dad only worked 40 hours a week as a janitor (yes, it runs in the family) and managed to support his wife and my brother and I on that income alone. I did a Google search on the property I am currently paying off (slowly) and the place went up by over 70% just in the last decade, that is CRAZY!
Has the average income went up by 70% in the last decade? Probably not.

I went to a commuter school so no one was ever on campus, so I ended up finding friends in wow. It was the first time I had raided and discovered how much I loved healing. I became good friends with people I wouldn't have because blizzard hadn't turned M+ into an esport yet, so it was the perfect content to just chill on Discord and play.

BFA has to be one of my fav expansions. I really liked the storytelling, and how balanced the screentime between Alliance and Horde characters were. For every progression on the story about Jaina's path to forgiveness, both to herself and by others, we got the story of Zul's betrayal and Rastakhan's relationship with his daughter. Ofc we can't forget the crazy pre-expansion burning of Teldrassil quest that I to this day get shivers from, from the fact that I experienced that in real time. My Anduin loving heart was also happy, bc he got some great storytelling too.
When the content drought was at it's worst I actually got the chance to dip my toes into the roleplay community, where I got a lot of fun and goofy memories. I was never really bored that expansion, which makes it one of, if not my all time fav.

That drop singlehandedly destroyed a good relationship I had with our raid team's other Assassination Rogue, because he dropped it the same week I dropped Mantle of the Master Assassin and that little bout of RNG made some heavy out-of-nowhere animosity start fermenting inside him, directed towards me. He started holding me to a super high standard in parses, kept trying to catch me underperforming or making a mistake so he could point it out to the RL somehow, all because he felt he deserved the legendary more than me despite both of us having no competition for Mythic spots. He ended up getting Zoldyck and I thought that'd be the end of it, but then I got it too, and that shit was the dealbreaker. Dude legitimately started griefing me.

I was definitely in the TBC camp for the exact reasons you listed since 15 bucks a month was a bit hard to push for with parents, but managed to get the game around the time when it first came out despite it being in high demand. Loved seeing Azeroth as I leveled up and eventually got to the point where I finally got to go through the dark portal and see the armies of demons sieging it and the alien atmosphere that got me hooked.

I have a strange relationship with BFA (specifically the Ny'alotha patch) because I acknowledge that the gameplay/systems were not good, but it was a unique time, during Covid lockdown I decided to become a GM of a guild and ended up having so much fun and making a lot of friends. The guild did really well in terms of progressing through raid and having other fun events. If it weren't for that I probably would have hated BFA though. Otherwise, I am a Classic WoWer at heart and have hardly touched Dragonflight.

Similar experience here. I started playing wow during wotlk but I was a dumb 12 year old and didn't know what I was doing. I never even got anywhere near max level before I stopped playing. I started playing again towards the end of legion after a 6 year hiatus from wow, and THAT is when I really dove deep into wow.
I mained DH like everyone did and had so much fun just questing and doing my class hall. Then I got to the suramar storyline and just fell in love with the lore and rep grinded like there was no tomorrow so I could play as the nightborne. Ever since then, I've mained a nightborne character every expansion. There's nothing quite like experiencing Suramar city for the first time.

  • @Cardali
    @Cardali Месяц назад +3

As someone who got WoW on release day, MoP was probably the most fun I'd had with the game since TBC. TBC came out when I became 18, and being in an EU guild meant we had some really amazing IRL meet-ups. WotLC was amazing too, but with the same people.
Cata came out and I didn't have the time, but when I got to MoP I'd made a whole new group of friends and we enjoyed the hell out of it. The amount of content was insane and the highlight for me was the Green Fire unlock for my lifelong main. This game, for me, has always been based on the things I did with others. Not what I've done.
It may have been a warning sign, looking back. The game becoming more mobile-like in MoP. The farm was just an introduction to the Stronghold we got in WoD, but that's how things go. I dip my toe back in every now and then but it's hard to keep up.

My favourite expansion is Warlords of Draneor :) And I started playing in TBC.
There's a number of reasons for it. If put very short, I finally got into raiding thanks to LFR, and it was glorious - raid mechanics were extremely fun, various and rewarding. Also Frostfire Ridge music is absolutely beautiful. I liked the idea and convenience of garrisons. I liked the zones, the way you travel between them, how zones were packed much denser, and dungeons were also very cool. Zones as well, still remember world-raiding Lord Kazzak. There was so much to love about that expansion, but all you hear about it is "omg no content worst expansion if you like it go see a doctor". Well I've never been the guy who lived in WoW for more than a year at a time, and who needed for the content to fill up his every conscious second in life. I'm more of a "mkay, the expansion is finally ready to be conquered, let's explore it" kind of guy. And for me it was great. My only complaint would be the fact that orcs were main enemies for 2 expansions in a row, it was just tiring, but Gul'Dan is a cool enough enemy to have in lore.

    Loved this video!
My favourite expansions in this order:
    Wrath Of The Lych King
    1. After playing WOW since the first day, it was the first expansion I felt as a competent WOW player. I lead my raiding guild. We had progress. I had great connection with my guildies. My character was always prepared and Priest was so much fun. I played Holy for 25 man and Discipline for 10 man.
    2. The thematic was amazing. Loved the story, the lore, the zones. The quest were more fun and more advanced technically. The lore was deep. I was really into it.
    3. On a personal level I was very involved with Norway at that moment. The country was attracting me for personal reason, and that expansion was just evoquing it
    4. That expansion was the theater of the love story with a Norvegian guy I spent 7 years of my life with.
For all those reasons, WOTLK will always stay my favourite WOW expansion of all time but also accross all games. That was MY golden age as a gamer.
    Vanilla
    You described me perfectly.
    1. The begging. The discovery. The game that transformed me into a gamer for the first time
    2. Totally a DnD fan. Started as a hardcore roleplayer
    3. Loved the adventure feel, the social interaction with players, the exploration, the lore and the long, meaningful progression
    4. I was pretty addicted!
    BattleForAzeroth
I missed Legion, because that's when my relationship with the Norvegian boyfriend ended and in all honnesty I could not play the game because of the heartache it caused. Just hearing the Suramar music caused me PTSD. I had so much hope in that expansion, both on a gaming and relationship level, and everything fall appart.
    1. Battle for Azeroth was my COME BACK to the game. I changed faction, I created a new character. It was a fresh beggining
    2. TROLL LORE! Oh my god! Zandalar for ever! Never felt so much hype about a race and the lore. The music made me feel amazing and wanting to overcome anything.
    3. Now I was a full time streamer, it was my first expansion ever I could NO LIFE and say it was my work. How amazing was that. I was "working" 14hours a day, and for once I was not the last one of my guild to be max level
    4. I had gathered a guild again. We were raiding together. Progressing together. It was fantastic!
    5. It was my second "WOTLK" style experience. Felt great and gave me closure.
I left Shadowland after the passing of my dad. The grief made me disconnected with everything I used to love. Then the drama in WOW happened, which discouraged me to come back. I though I was done for real with the game.
I also got busy with the release of my own MMORPG (a old school inspired indie MMORPG Embers Adrift )
But with Blizzcon, I heard Chris Metzen call, and I'm coming back home. Playing Season of Discovery for now, and catching up with Shadowland story. I hope to be able to play the story of Dragonflight before The War Within release. Cause I want to witness this. I want to be there for WOW 20 years anniversary!
That was a wall of text. if anyone did read this THANK YOU!!

I do unironically love Shadowlands, and it's for exactly the reason you said: the covenants.
I got so invested in the individual stories of each of the four and what each stood for, and questing through the zones was just a good time. Seeing Ysera again, and just everything about Revendreth was especially amazing. I ended up creating several roleplay/story characters for them, and I haven't done that since Legion!
Also Ve'nari. I adore that woman.

Legion is my favorite partly because you were the hero leading your order against world-destroying evil demons, but also because of the Mage Tower challenges. These challenges forced the player to master the fundamentals of each class and specialization. I developed an attachment to every character I completed the Mage Tower with, and I'm glad that Blizzard eventually brought the Mage Tower back for all players to enjoy, with brand new rewards (even though the old weapon transmog rewards are no longer attainable).

BFA was held in a special slot in my memory as the beginning of my journey for guilds, raiding, and introduction into my favored class Paladin. Shadowlands, as someone who only stuck it out for Season 1, unironically was also another favorite expansion as it was my first time I was remotely interested in the story and was my first time I delve into PvP, high M+, and Mythic raiding. When I tell people that Shadowlands is my absolute favorite expansion I always get the "what do you mean how could you actually enjoy that xpac?" and I always say the same thing: I started playing wow 3 days before SL dropped, so it's what I know the best outside of the few days I leveled. It's the xpac I played when I truly fell in love with this game. Even now, I genuinely wish I could go back to the SL days and forget about DF all together so I can hearth to sinfall and do laps around Oribos

  • @karmalotto8587
    @karmalotto8587 Месяц назад

I'm one of the MoP people, and your analysis was spot on. On top of that, I was just having so much fun and felt immersed in the amount of content to do. It felt like the perfect balance! I would almost argue that Dragonflight has had too little good side content.
To answer why a Shadowlands player may have loved the expansion, I'll point out one thing: The dungeons were honestly pretty solid and the raids were not bad. I might be in the minority, but I really loved the dungeons in SL, especially the crazy seasonal affixes (like relics) and the ways covenants interacted with their respective dungeons.
What I didn't appreciate was the sheer grind of the expansion. I remember going into season 1 as a frost mage. Entering CN on week one. Seeing two pieces of loot drop per boss, if that, in my 30m raid group. I got zero loot on week one. I was bewildered. I joked that maybe the dev team thought what made classic wow so popular was making bosses drop next to no loot. I couldn't understand it.
And then that sense of not being rewarded just kept coming. Venari's rep was a painful, unpleasant grind. Seeing +40 rep in the chat box was depressing. Anima was cool, until it wasn't. I need HOW much anima just for this cool soulshape?
And then the droprates came in. Some rares in SL have such low drop rates on their pets that they rival the original drop rates of the MoP world boss mounts. Hell, some rares didn't even drop their mounts unless you were at the right renown level with a certain covenant.
And then, of course, Sanctum happened. We all know what happened next.

Her reasoning for this love for the expansion is because she developed extreme Fictophilia for Sire Denathrius. To this day she raid leads Castle Natheria transmog runs every week solely for the pleasure of it.

MOP fan here, started in WOTLK, but played my hear out in MOP mostly because of the guild I joined and the people I played with. Miss the people and the game. Good times.

Cata isn’t necessary my favorite but I started w Cata and a Worgen Hunter was my first ever character, so I have fond memories of Gilneas and Darkshore and that area

I started in BC and absolutely loved wrath, but I was also in my teens so I didn't understand it fully from a full lore perspective, but I respected it greatly. My favorite expansion though was definitely mists. I liked the pandas and monk healing was the first time I finally felt like they made a class just for me. I loved the gameplay of it and I still believe it was the best version of the class. The raids were great, the lore was nice and it was the first one my husband and I hardcore raided in. The tillers farm was also fun for me
Legion was fantastic for class lore, it felt amazing to play and fun

Honestly, I've enjoyed every WoW expansion to some extent. Even WoD, even Shadowlands -- they all brought some new fun experiences. I started in BC but every expansion has a place in my heart.
