Where Are These PlayStation Franchises?

- Sony owns a fair few iconic franchises - many dating right back to the original PlayStation. But while we’re pretty familiar with the likes of ongoing series such as God of War, Horizon, and Gran Turismo, there are plenty of PlayStation franchises that haven’t seen the light of day in a long time. So in this video, we’re going to be taking a look at the status of PlayStation’s many IPs, and checking in on when we last heard from them.
From Ape Escape to Uncharted via the likes of lost franchises like Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, and Killzone, Sony have a long list of IPs in their back catalogue. But while some of them, including God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Horizon have seen big success recently, there are plenty more that Sony have left on the back burner. This video dives into every PlayStation franchise to take a look at each series' status and gauge whether we might see some of them again.

@@tomparkin2068 I've loved these games ever since I was a kid! I'm 31 now, so I grew up during this franchise's popularity. You should definitely give The Thievius Raccoonus a chance.
@@tomparkin2068 Yes, The Thievius Raccoonus is the first game. As much as I enjoyed the first Sly game, the next PS2 entries, "Band of Thieves" & "Honor Among Thieves", were far superior, because you have more characters to play as and larger locations to explore. The PS3 game, "Thieves in Time", was good too, except it didn't do as well as the original trilogy and was left on an unresolved cliffhanger, but I still enjoyed it.

Infamous, little big planet
Socom conformation was highly underrated. Albeit with its glitches and crashes, I would pay top dollar for another socom with similar play styles and atmosphere. One of the undisputed GOATS during PS3 era
The worst part is how many of these are stuck on their consoles. The playstation 3 has proved to be an absolute nightmare for conservation.
MGS4 is a notable example
What about Gunners Heaven, Dark Cloud, Heavenly Sword, Intelligent Qube, The Legend of Dragoon, Soul Sacrifice, Warhawk, Tomba, Wild Arms, WipEout, and Legaia?

You missed blood and truth, bravo team, firewall and Farpoint. Also, the until dawn franchise has three games. The inpatient was also part of it.

Square made parasite eve not Sony. As for ico Sony chose to remake shadow of colossus instead of doing a remake of ico. Tho it would be cool to see that game return one of these days
I just want a Parasite Eve remake. Was never allowed to play it back in the day, but I still think about now and then.
Oh you absolutely need to find a way to play the original. It definitely deserves more love and a proper remake.
I'm saving up to get a PC by the end of the year so maybe I'll emulate it when I can. I remember watching my older brother play it a handful of times, and it's managed to remain in the back of my mind all this time.
Plz bring back killzone, sly cooper, and littlebigplanet I will buy them all. At least remaster some of these dawg. Sly was my favorite mascot man 😢

You missed the Buzz! Series. But I suspect that was so you could go from bloodborne directly to Demon Souls.
Launching on the PS2 in 2005 with the music quiz, it went on to have entries covering sports film and general knowledge. And went on to have games on the PS3 AND PSP. The last game released in 2010.
Forgot to mention theyre making a Gravity Rush TV show so theres some life in that franchise still

The disrespect to Sly is wild. They left that man stuck in the past and never looked back. Not only that, but Sly was supposed to be among the 1st PS IPs to get a media adaption. At first it was going to be a movie, but after Ratchet and Clank flopped, Sony got cold feet and decided it should be a show instead. They had a studio and everything picked out for it and when they launched their own new division dedicated to turning their IPs into shows, Sly was one of the first assigned in like 2019. 5 yrs later and we've gotten Twisted Metal, Last of Us, an Uncharted movie, God of War in the works, Ghost of Tsushima in the works, Horizon in the works, and many more and meanwhile Sly is nowhere to be seen despite being one of the original works first in line for something.
And its not even like they forgot about him because they keep including him in IP posters, franchise montage trailers, cameos in games like the newest Ratchet and Clank, references in Ghost of Tsushima and Astro, etc. Yet we cant get a new game, a short, or even a modern remake of his older stuff.
Especially since a game like Sly Cooper is still original and unique in its mechanics and concept to this day. Theres are practically no AAA games and not very many, if any, indies that play like it does. Being able to play 3 separate characters with their own unique styles in a single campaign and mission type and then it culminates in one big intertwined objective.
Bring back "Tenchu wrath of haven" ! from the PS2 era

The Ape Escape for EyeToy PS was the best technoligical leap of the century. What a piece of Gold!
Syphon Filter, Tenchu, Killzone, Resistance, Socom. While the whole industry has lost it's way chasing live service money makers, Sony could be making a killing with all their dormant IPs with single player and small scale MP... but Sony had to chase live service too.
You forgot a couple of good ones like Jumping Flash and Warhawk! But I’m so glad you mentioned classics like Vib Ribbon and Jet Moto. We need more of old school PlayStation.

Just gonna say that Bloodborne isnt a franchise but a game in a franchise that is still ongoing today.
@@tomparkin2068 I mean, it's part of Fromsoftware's souls style games. Not quite as unrelated as your example.
Bloodborne is its own IP, it isn’t part of Dark Souls. King’s Field, Armored Core, Sekiro, and Elden Ring are their own thing as well. They’re all from the same developer, most are part of the same genre, and you can definitely argue they’re part of the same “universe”, but they’re each their own franchise.
@@tomparkin2068it’s just another Souls game with a slightly different aesthetic dude. All these FromSoft Souls style games are basically one in the same. Only one you can make a slight case for is Sekiro, but even then it’s still got a lot of that same design philosophy.
@@WholeHolyHoleNope it’s all the same. Elden Ring is just souls, but open world. Bloodbourne is just faster Dark Souls with a different aesthetic. That’s why people crying for BB2 or a remake is moronic especially when Lies of P and other souls clones exist. Instead of crying for that cry people need to begging for the resurgence of true action games. 🤦♂️

Sony PlayStation has built a strong reputation for not touching older IPs, so don't expect these franchises to return anytime soon.
@@tomparkin2068 All that focus on hyper-realistic action adventure games since the PS3 is really hurting PlayStation big time. Everyone knows how lackluster the recent state of play was.
I need Days Gone 2, I need Infamous remakes/remasters, I need JAK BACK, I need a Parappa 3, I need Little Big Planet to be a supported franchise again with good netcode security

While a lot of these franchises are clearly dead and not coming back, I'd love to see Jak, Sly, Killzone, and InFamous come back in some form. A Syphon Filter game could be pretty interesting too since outside of Hitman, the stealth genre is pretty lacking atm (outside of MG3 remake and Splinter Cell remakes). Also RIP Motorstorm, one of the best arcade racers.
Jak and Daxter games were awesome, definitely needs a comeback, and Horizon is great no doubt but Killzone needs a comeback as well
Moving Playstation from Tokyo to California was a big mistake.
Shutting down Japan Studio was another big mistake.

People don't talk about ape escape enough
Sony would be raking in a lot of money if they brought back some of their older franchises. Many gamers are from those areas and would happily buy these games for nostalgia. Sure, Medievil didn't live up to expectations, but only because they advertised it at the same time they advertised the PS5. With sensible people in charge, they could successfully bring back Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, Infamous, Resistance, and Killzone

With CoD becoming a possible exclusive for Xbox in the future, titles like Killzone and SOCOM could rise from the ashes.
LocoRoco & Patapon are titles Playstation could introduce in the mobile market.

🎉🎉 10:20 Jak = Uncharted. Essentially... Sounds nuts, but uncharted 1 was originally going to be Jak. Ditch the mascot and stop using the weapons systems borrowed from insomniac and add some Ramsays gold influence and you've got uncharted.
Plus in tropey style jack already found his dad so his game is over.

I'm hoping Bloodborne remake is the same as Demon's Souls remake and ends up being a launch game for PS6.
I honestly think for Sony to consider to bring back Sly Cooper or Jak and Daxter series, Astro Bot needs to do well, it has a similar wacky style. So please ps5 users, buy Astro Bot, it looks hella fun and let's they will revive Sly Cooper, I really enjoyed the series.

Just let Bluepoint go wild systematicly doing remasters of all these dormant IPs. Especially games that are trapped on the PS3.

Bloodbourne should only be touched by fromsoft, the demon soils remake is alright but lots its charm through the remaster process.

Killzone needs to comeback before anything else. After all, Sony currently has no exclusive FPS. I genuinely miss those days when FPS games use to have great single player campaign. PS studios knows how to create a great narrative experience.
With so many Playstation franchises, it'd be great if they gave Playstation Allstars another chance!

Between slowly abandoning their fans that have been with them since the PS1/2/3 eras and having the most pisspoor 1st party game variety on PS5 that would make Microsoft proud while doing nothing with most of the IPs they own, them not attempting at the very least another 1st Party Crossover fighter is what makes me refuse to touch their consoles with a 10 foot pole for the foreseeable future

Hi Everyone !
I miss the era when games had smaller teams and budgets; where creativity shined. I’ve completely lost interest in AAA because it’s all been there done that gameplay. I could care less about graphics and presentation. Give me new and different experiences. The indie scene is far superior than what these AAA publishers are producing.
My dream’s another Jak & Daxter like The Precursors Legacy, just a solid action/platformer where you get to travel across the different lands. Kids today will never know how cool that was & while the series veered into GTA-lite I still think we can get a fresh reboot/remake. Pains me that R&C is still going strong today yet this franchise is neglected
