most youtuber just copy the others, I'm glad this is not the case this time even if 1997 is one of the best.

This is the old version. Guitar solo has changed and vocalist's English has improved now. They played at the Madison square garden and SSC arena Wembly in London before.

About the drummer: "he's like Animal back there"
That was when he was still able to do the headbanging, he actually broke his neck and can't do so anymore.
X-Japan hair-metal look was a great influence on Visual Kei X-Japan might have been the first.
And yes, X-Japan was, maybe still is purely by the numbers the biggest rock band in Japan.

Hey DJ you can't go wrong listening to X. I laughed when you said it sounds like old school Japanese metal. In Japan, music is marked "Before X and After X"
    True rock stars.

yes, they are the most influential band to ever come out of Japan, and pretty much every Japanese rock band pays homage to some degree to X japan. Gene Simmons said that if they were from the US they would have been the biggest band in the world.

This is an extremely early version, it ended up being re-recorded with strings in the intro, dominantly Japanese lyrics, a different guitar solo, and much better production. How many versions of this song there actually are is actually still up for debate. There's a demo from 1985, this version, the version on Vanishing Vision (which is a cleaner produced version of this version), and the Blue Blood version. There's also another version that uses the Blue Blood intro but is closer to this version musically.

It's cool to hear the evolution of a music piece that takes on a new persona as the artist sees fit. I've got some hunting to do. Cheers Xero :)

the best version of this song is live at Tokyo Dome 1992 On The Verge of Destruction which is Taiji(Bass) last concert with X,..after that the band name's become X-Japan & Heath is replacing Taiji on bass,..no offense to Heath but Taiji are the most skillfull & talented member of X other than Yoshiki,..but Heath also a good bass player & first song he plays after join X-Japan is one of the best songs ever,.."Art of Life" a 30 minutes song,..

ruclips.net/video/ja32hXl2YmQ/видео.html Note that this is a live version.. the piano part in the middle of the performance is dragging which makes this song very long. However there is a reason for why Yoshiki does it especially in lives. It supposed to represent the ups and downs of life in a long repeating cycle, eventually coming to a single resolution, to live. The band didn’t make it worldwide fame at the height of their career when hide (guitarist) was still alive. Citing the fact that Toshi (singer) had a hard time singing in English. Yoshiki kept pushing the band to its limits, he wrote Art of Life I full English in hopes to expose the band to Western audience. Unfortunately, the West at the time was already buzzing with many glam rock bands. According to Gene Simmons (Kiss), if XJapan sang in good English, they easily could have been one of the best bands in the world. In early 2000s, at the height of RUclips success, Western audience were finally knowing and hearing about XJapan and various Japanese rock/metal bands. With their popularity growing online, Yoshiki made the decision to reunite the band with Sugizo (Luna Sea) filling in for hide. They finally made their world tour and I was able to see them in Oakland back in 2010 :)

@@Notthegote777 exactly. and while i enjoy last live 1997 because of the emotion behind it, its just not the same as earlier shows. for one they aren't in their full outfits and makup. its like seeing KISS in regular cloths. not to mention the older performances in general have alot more energy especially the crowd. if you watch some of the stuff from Kyoto Sports valley they are really hopping, the song X in particular is great at that show. it starts raining, its dark, Toshi's voice is giving out but they power through it and mayhem ensues. at the end you just see the crowd looking around in stunned shock.
