Having owned both cars, i traded the Z4 in for a Boxster only 1 month ago and i have to say, the Z4 is the better car.
It was simply easier to drive and in my opinion had a better build quality.
If you really owned a “Boxter”, you should be aware B-o-x-s-t-e-r. Just sayin’.
@@clu4u i apologise, i wasn't aware the spelling police were out in force patrolling the comments sections, thanks for pointing out a typo. I do indeed own a Porsche 718 B-O-X-S-T-E-R.
@@mykiman5955 The spelling cops are vigorously enforcing misspellings, you’re lucky to be let off with a warning. But truthfully it’s hard to take your comments seriously, you don’t seem to understand the difference between a typo and a misspelling. I’ve had a Boxster S for 15 years and now have a 981 Spyder. There is no better sports car. A mid engine car is the best. Capisce?
@@clu4u i bought the 718 Boxster thinking it would be a no brainer. No doubt it looks 100x better (especially in GT Silver imo) than the Z4 and when pushed it has better handling but as a daily driver the Z4 wins which I do hate to say. The build quality is better, the tech is better, the ride is easier to live with. I purchased the manual which was maybe a mistake as the Z4 had the ZF auto.
Don't get me wrong a lot more people come up and speak to me about the Porsche as it clearly has more prestige and Im sure it will be good if i take it to a track but I need it as a daily driver in town and unfortunately the Z4 was just easier to live with on Scottish roads 🤷♂️
@@mykiman5955 thanks for the explanation, I understand and respect your viewpoint. I’ve had my Spyder for 9 months but it’s a garage queen, only driven it 500 miles. GT silver over Garnet Red. But truthfully a lot who criticize the Boxster spell it Boxter and I let them know it. For 15 years anyways. I love my cars and modify them to suit my preferences, Bilsteins, short shift kit, under drive pulley, lightweight flywheeel, ECU tune, Milltek exhaust on my 05 Boxster S. It was like a go kart.
Nice review. Th Boxster however run on 20'' Carrera S wheels as standard on the T. I know cause I just bought one :-)
I enjoyed the video and completely agree with your conclusion. Both are good cars but offer a different experience. I would take the Z4 because I would want the extra space, tech and need a grandish tourer - the Porsche is clearly the better handling car but that's not what I need / want now (yes, I am older than I used to be !). I switched from manual to auto 3 yrs ago and will never go back. I live in a city so I am either going slowly around town or on motorways out of town. Shame but true. That's why we won't see a manual from the Z4, they are not appealing to that audience.
I’m 70 this year and bought a 2016 981 Spyder for myself. Save the manuals!
@@clu4u Enjoy !
Great camera work Paul. What a strange world we live in when a 4 cylinder BMW engine sounds better than a Porsche. Other than that sound, I like everything about the Boxter T. Can't wait to see and hear the 718 GT4
BMW Z4 sDrive20i comes manual too! In the Z4 you sit 40 cm over the road - not low enough? How low is the Boxter?
The 20i comes with a manual but not the 30i and BMW said there's no plans to add one. The Boxster is lower to the ground, by how much I have no idea :)
B-o-x-s-t-e-r please.
z4 beautiful car!
Boxter T is on 20" wheels from Carrera S.
No rev-matching in Sport Plus on the Boxster?? That would be unusual.
You're correct, rev matching IS on the Boxster T when in Sports Plus mode.
Z4 looks way better
Boxster looks like UFO with the top up
The boxter is a much sportier and feels better to drive in my opinion. The z4 does feel better just cruising and the tech is more modern
5:40 är det vägen vid hagby?
It's close to that area, yes
What about depreciation?
What about it? :)
@@TunedIntoCars I would imagine the Z4 would take a much bigger hit.
Well I think the Porsche suffers from the same problem. I've seen boxsters depreciate by more than 30% in a year. Especially high spec ones
It all depends on budgets of course as the M40i has a 3l engine and it's way more expensive. However, as the Z4 is more of a long distance cruiser, I would go for the 30i and save some money for my trips :D
@@TunedIntoCars 3 cylinder??? It's 6!
เว้ายังละ
If I had those amounts of money for a soft top car, I would definitely take a TT RS.
It all depends of course on what you want in a car and what your budget is. Unfortunately the TT-RS starts from 70.000 euros base price so it can't really be compared with these two cars.
But I would pick the Boxster any day of week just because of the way it drives
They're both considered mid engine. One is front mounted, the other rear.
Nah, you’re dreaming. Front mount isn’t mid engine, and the 911 is a rear engine, the Boxster is mid engine. Capisce?
He’s right. Mid engine refers to the placement of the engine behind or in front of the respective axle. You can have a front mid engine car.
@@Spinks345 You’re both wrong, Google “mid engine” and see for yourself. No such thing as “mid front”.
Técnicamente motor central es cuando este se encuentra entre los dos eje, es cierto. Pero vulgarmente se suele considerar motor central cuando está por delante del eje trasero y detrás del habitáculo.
Utterly, utterly comical, the length of that BMW hood; like there’s a straight-8 under there.
Having owned the Z4 I can safely say in every way the 718 is superior.
Definitely not in every way.
The boxter sounds like a scooter
You spell like a moron
