  • Streamers are an effective way of catching trout, often some of the largest fish in a river or stream will move to a streamer. In the last 20 years streamer fly fishing has changed a great deal, from the fly lines used to the fly patterns. In this fascinating video, Tom Rosenbauer will go into great detail about the new techniques, fly lines, leaders and fly patterns used for successful modern streamer fishing!

    One thing I've learned from guiding for brookies is that they usually try to drown a mouse before eating it. They'll often short strike or tail slap it, then come back to eat it when they think it's dead, so it's often good to pause after they miss it if they come back to actually eat it.

      the sound you're referring to isn't actually the reel, it's the sound of the Orvis "HD Trout" textured line. The line has micro-bumps on it that provide texture for increased surface area so that the line floats better. It also grips the guides better for improved rod loading in my experience.

    You might think that living in Maine all of my life would have deadened my appreciation of fishing for brook trout. On the contrary, my appreciation deepens with each passing season. Thanks for including the "brookie fishing" and "Grand Lake stream" segments in this beautifully shot and executed video. PS) I'm actually quite new to fly fishing but I'm totally hooked.

    Back in the 90s I developed a streamer technique that is extremely effective. Just like a good gold prospector, I never shared the method since my goal was the be the "big bwana" on the water. In the spring of 2022 the technique is going public along with a new style of streamer that elicits the strike even better than the 1990s method. The lesson will be to never present the fly in any uniform fashion. Piscivorous trout have particular clues to strike. They do not want a "natural" presentation. More to come next spring. Also, color DOES make a big difference. Fish in each river have a color they are accustom to, They will hit that color first.

    Another great video Mr. Rosenbauer. I fish with streamers and have hade some success' though my streamer patterns are very small compared to those that you use. I will try some larger streamers next fishing season in the spring in the province of Québec, Canada. I never caught anything with my mouse pattern and I «retired» it this season; perhaps I'll give it another try.

    • @brichweb

    • @tantricmajor
      @tantricmajor 4 года назад

      Tie a 6" piece of 20lb fluorocarbon to your fly line and tie a perfection loop on the fluorocarbon. Braided slip on loops aren't great. Can also use heat shrink and make your own welded loop on the end of your fly line. Couple good videos online.

    • @rosenbauert
      @rosenbauert 4 года назад

      I would advise a 6-inch piece 40 lb mono instead of fluorocarbon, attached with a nail knot. Then you put a Perfection loop in it. Fluorocarbon will make the end of you fly line sink. Unless it's a sinking line, then fluoro is fine.

    I really enjoyed this video, and I want to give this a go as a change to nymph fishing. One wee point that I'd like to make however, is your lack of safety on boats. The guy was standing on a platform on a boat in the middle of a lake wearing a shirt and sneakers and no inflatable vest was to be seen. There's a lot of newbies out there and it's best to show them that safety is every bit as important as the fishing itself.
