  • In this video we are going to walk through a couple of methods to create panelized features using Plasticity. If you are looking to download a trial or learn more about the program be sure to head over to:
    www.plasticity.xyz/
    We are going to cover the following in this video while walking through how to model this spray can:
    Imprinting a curve on a solid
    Duplicating curves
    Using Offset
    Using Pipe
    Creating a spiral
    All of these are going to be general workflows with other tips sprinkled in. If you have any questions please let me know.

    Thanks for the tutorial, subscribed! Does Plasticity have tools to snap objects to curved shapes? For example, I want to create windows around a sphere or cylinder like a coliseum. If you know how - please make a video, it's very interesting to know.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  10 месяцев назад

      Yes it does, sort of. Make your window off to the side of your design then use CTRL + D (cmd + D on mac). This is a copy and place tool. Shift + D will duplicate an object but CTRL + D will let you pick something on the object and let you place it normal to a face on a new object. So you could draw a single window and then place multiple around. Keep in mind it won't have a specific snap point unless you have a curve or have imprinted onto your object.

    Nice tutorial . Can you do parametric modelling like Fusion 360 in plasticity? I just checked the pricing and plasticity is way affordable than fusion360

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад +1

      Sadly no. Plasticity is a direct modeler with no history. I don't know what the future holds for it but I don't think its intention was every to be a parametric history based CAD program. More of a shape creation/generation for concept and visual effects artists.

    Hi, how do you join curves and lines together. Also after you draw a shape/curve how do you adjust the size dimensions? Cheers

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  10 месяцев назад

      after a curve is created there is no associated dimension anymore. It is only at creation where you can enter those values. There are some tricks you can do like create a reference line or shape of a known size and then move by changing the pivot point around, but its a bit of a work around. As for joining curves and lines. If you are moving the end point of a line you can hold down CTRL on a win machine or CMD on a mac to snap to other end points. To actually join them together so they will be a single curve you use J. But they have to share endpoints for that to work.

    Why is it that when I start the offset tool, it gives such extreme values that I have to hunt around to find anything that'll fit?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  11 месяцев назад

      hmm, im not sure. its based on your cursor position so try something out. Keep your cursor perfectly still, hit O with a face selected, then just move it vertically only. Then hit ESC and try to do the same thing only moving horizontally.
      Does this give you the fine control? I "think" that horiz gives you a 1:1 movement with the mouse, but vertically is some kind of multiplier. My guess is that where the cursor is when you hit O might move slightly and then be off in space.

    Sir, there is a lot of good software out there right now. But do you think Fusion 360 is equal to this software, and is Fusion 360 suitable for CNC or metal 3D printing? I'm overwhelmed because there's so much cool software out there.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад

      There certainly are! Here is what I would say.
      If you want to make designs to be produced, CNC, 3d printing, stuff that needs to have dimensional accuracy and ease of control, stick with Fusion.
      If you work primarily in a poly program like Blender, and want an easier tool to make "hard" models without worry of edge flow/topology, try Plasticity.
      It is "CAD for Artists" and while you can make designs to 3d print from it, for me it is not a replacement. Just another tool. I think in the future we will see a lot of integration and workflows with Blender and Plasticity, but it is a tool to replace fusion for those that do it for VFX, game design, animation etc.

    So, at the beginning, when you draw this polyline and when you draw this line parallel to the second inclined line (at an angle of 45°), this "snap" does not work for me, I have already tried various methods with the Tab button like you, but it doesn't work it works and I don't have the attraction like with you, I don't know what mistake I'm making, I can't get a line parallel to the inclined line. And with lines parallel to x,y,z it's no problem... I have the latest Plasticity.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hmm, not sure about Tab, but try tapping Shift. If the curve is part of the same polyline it should auto create the parallel snap, but if it doesn't you can hover of the line you want to mimic, tap and release shift and this should give you a parallel snap.

    What's you opinion on Rhino 3D? I find that it has so many tools and functions, which is why it's difficult to pick up.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад +1

      Well. i think the program has a lot of power but the UI/UX is a big turn off for me. The workflow seems to really work against the creative process for me. I think UI/UX is really big which is why so many programs are struggling. Nick put a lot of thought into that with Plasticity.
      When i was looking at Rhino I was mainly looking for a surfacing/subD tool but found that the subD process didn't really offer anything over Fusion and Fusion was much easier to use. Surface quality in Rhino is better for sure but it is tough to justify it. One main thing it has that really makes it tough to overlook is the Grasshopper functionality....

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Yes, funny you should say that as I am a UXUI designer (3d hobbyists). I think the usability (Speed) of Plasticity, allows one to iterate and create some great models very quickly. I love the shift curve constraints. Just need some good documentation on how to use the functions, but I am sure that will come in time. Purchased the Studio version so I can get earlier access to the Blender bridge feature sooner. And yes, kicking myself for not purchasing the Fusion 360 one-time purchase when it was in beta.🤦‍♂

      @@sparky1570784 Not currently. You can import Step, Parasolid, Iges and SAT files, but not an SVG currently. So depending on the program its coming from you can bring in a "CAD" file and do that, just not SVG at the moment.
