    In this video we are going to look at some basic modeling tools and approaches. Like every program there are always going to be multiple ways to achieve the same result, so in this video we focus on modeling a simple canister and see how tools like Offset Face, Extrude, and Imprint Curve can give us the same geometry in different ways.

    Thanks so much for taking the time to make these tutorials! In case anyone else gets caught up on the step at 6:50: "tab" to center the rectangle (tab was actually tabbing to the height and width inputs) you can click and hold on the rectangle creation icon on the toolbar to the right and release over the image with the rectangle with the dot in the middle to use center rectangle. :)

      Yeah so after I did this video the version of the software changed so now "C" on the keyboard changes from corner to center and Tab goes between the now displayed on screen dimensions... This is one issue with covering new and evolving software tools and the fact that RUclips doesn't allow you to edit videos.

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thank you so much for the reply! I had yet to figure out "c" is the new hotkey, noted! :) And yesss, I had similar issues trying to keep up with Houdini tutorials, they change versions so quickly. But in this case, there's not much on Plasticity at all out there, given it's newness, so thanks again so much for taking the time to make these tutorials! :D They're much appreciated!

      Thanks. I don't currently have plans to do a long series, but right now just some basic modeling tips like these. I have a few more that I want to cover and then I will decide what is next.

    Can you export different groups separately? I have the trial and it seems to only export as one giant mesh. I was hoping I could export it in groups so I could animate different parts of the model. I was hoping that this was just a limitation of the trial version and maybe in the paid versions you can.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад

      Yes you can, you need to select it in the list on the left, then go to the menu drop down and do export. After you pick the location and file type, the preview on the screen should show you which object is being exported with some options in the Export dialog.

    Tell me please, do you have your own hotkeys, because for example pressing 1 means that you choose vertex but not front view?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад

      Hi, no I didn't customize the hotkeys. The view keys are the numpad to the right of the keyboard. I think the key on the screen should say numpad(i hope). the ones at the top of the keyboard are for the selection filters.
      1 = vertex
      2 = edge
      3 = face
      4 - body
      5 = all
      the numpad keys are 1,3,7. with 5 going in/out of perspective mode.

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign ya sorry, I was watching and you did something that I was trying to figure out how to do and you just kinda did it and I was so confused on how you did that. I think for videos like this RUclips should add a feature that beneath the video it shows the kbm so you see what the creator is actually doing. But I figured it out

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  29 дней назад

      @@lina4469 Ah, yeah for these Plasticity videos I usually manually add the shortcuts on the screen rather than using a keytracker. When you see that on videos the keys scrolls so fast that I prefer to manually add them. Sorry if I missed something but glad you figured it out!
      The newer solid modeling series I did in plasticity was a bit slower with 4 videos dedicated to basic modeling techniques and the last video being a modeling example. That was updated for the newer version of Plasticity if you are looking for another practice.

    Hello, Are you using this program with a tablet?

    I’m confused as to how one shape can be used to delete another. How do you target a shape to subtract from another? Cheers

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  11 месяцев назад

      When you use the boolean command (q) you want to use the difference option (w). Target body is what you want to remove from, and tool body is what you want to remove. Generally you will select the target body, hit Q, then when the tool is active you hit W for difference, then select the thing you want to subtract.

    Does plasticity have a "go back" feature.
    If I mess up, can I step back?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад +1

      just Undo, there is no capture of history if that is what you mean.

    I think the software has changed. It doesn't work like your video. When you hit Shif+D, it does not automatically duplicate. It brings up a gizmo and you have to manually place the duplicate.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад

      If you watch the screen in the middle the same thing happens. ruclips.net/video/G2pgWUI56FI/видео.html Shift+D will always bring up the option to move the new object. I just accept the position to leave it in the middle with a right-click. The version I used was 1.0.5 which would be what was downloaded yesterday but Shift-D has worked like this as long as the software has been around.

    what is the difference between cut and imprint?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Год назад +1

      Cut will break the solid or sheet body in 2 pieces while imprint will just cut the face but still leave it a single body.
