Trying to understand why the protagonist sounds so happy and excited about everything... A shame they didn't manage to hire an actor who's able to express panic and fear with his voice.
Sure they do, but this actor is terrible at acting in my opinion. He's overacting and doesn't put an effort in expressing his lines in a believable way. ;)
The best horror protagonist I have ever seen, I love the "oh, it's Robert's dead body" with all the frustration of someone who just missed the bus and not someone who found out his friend was murdered. Honestly feels like if Kronk was in a horror game. I know it was likely the actor saying lines weird and not intentional, but it makes the watch 1000% more enjoyable to see his ho-hum reactions to all the typical haunted house fare
Obsessed with this line reading, listened to it over and over again and it gets funnier every time - "NO, NO, IT'S ROBERT'S [whispers] dead body" - 47:40 is the time stamp for other lovers of camp
This guy has the most UNDERRATED reactions for someone in his position. He is never too concerned with the events happening around him. Way to stay calm in the face of danger.
This is the first horror game that nearly made me cry because I was laughing so much. I'm 2 hours in and the game is pretty good with the creatures it introduced so far but that protagonist... His reactions are hilarious. It's like he's talking about the weather when finding dead things and he's generally rather chipper and unperturbed except for loving to fall on the floor and some heavy breathing. (And taking forever to close the door to the safe room.) I mean, I like it so far, although the jumpscares aren't really necessary to create a tense atmosphere and to frighten the player but this guy is just amazing with how unfazed he is most of the time.
Fritillaria Imperialis I agree 😂 It's probably the unfortunate outcome of his voice actor being quite dissociative from the game, but I surprisingly like it so much. I actually think it's adorable, hee hee!
@@lyndiss.2017 It does have its own distinctive charm, although it also makes me question his sanity to react like this to a dead friend. Still, a rather fresh reaction to things. He seems to adore the floor though. I don't think I've seen someone crawl on the floor this often before. :D
I thought so too. Beautiful looking game, but the terrible voice acting made me quit after 20 minutes in. I just, simply could NOT take the whole situation seriously, if even the protagonist talks like a clown, having fun and enjoying the jump scares.
@@MauMenzori I can understand that sentiment. All in all, it was a solid game but way too reliant on jumpscares and having him so cheerful is probably worse for the atmosphere than having a protagonist who does not react at all except for a few sound effects. It was probably the thing which disturbed me the most about this whole game. I'm more afraid of the guy than all the foes combined. I nearly choked on my water when he found Taylor because I was trying to suppress my laughter. Another thing is that, while liking the look and the design of the enemies, I found it hard to get scared because the story was a little lackluster and despite claiming to be psychological horror, it contained way too many jumpscares. The ending was also similar to 90% of the other horror movies and games out there and not really satisfying. I also felt that the last fifth was way more interesting than the rest. All in all it was enjoyable to watch but not exactly frightening. Even the enemy segments had more of the tension of being chased than actual fear. I also would have liked to hear more about the cult and the people who went in. Perhaps I'm also too critical. I often have trouble with finding stories like these scary. Maybe it's because some of the "reality TV" shows make it seem rather ridiculous than anything else. Or because I saw a lot of wasted potential. There were too many things thrown in together without explaining anything. I mean, a lot of horror stories deal with the paranormal, which is great, but this particular kind in the style of The Conjuring, etc. somehow can't scare me.
Fritillaria, have you ever watched "Soma"? The SHK channel here has it, if you wanna watch. THAT is probably one of the top 3 best "survival horror games" I've seen in my lifetime. If you are a fan of horror and titles like Outlast, Alien Isolation and even Amnesia, then, get ready for something GOOD. And I'm not saying this lightly: being a sci-fi writer myself and a movie freak (seeing more than 200 new movies each year), I guarantee THAT Soma has an a-ma-zing story to tell.
Fuck yes! No commentary, full gameplay, the works. I watched half now and I'll do half tomorrow right before bed to give me that warm fuzzy. God bless October and your channel. Seriously, great job.
The easiest way to know this house is haunted is the fact it has 100 years and nobody stole a piece of painting or furniture. Anyone who tried to Rob this place probably is dead.
I'm only 4 minutes in, and the opening scene of the guy trying to run from everything almost gave me motion sickness. Nobody running for their life runs into walls and then stops against it for 8 seconds every 3 ft.
Demonstrates just how much game design has advanced in the past four years. Love the retro oversized dust particles to create the inference that it’s a 3D environment.
The graphics and the creepiness of this game was a total new level, but what bothered me the most was the protagonist's way of thinking and his stupid lines. Also the speed bothered me the most.
Ah!!! Very happy to see the full gameplay uploaded here. Two other channels I watch only had a few key jumpscares between finding the scorpio and aries keys and that was it!
I’m so confused by the layout of this house. If there’s no map I’d be so screwed. But great video. Enjoyed it a ton. Your walkthroughs are always the best.
A pretty nice game. Very beautiful, with enough creepy jump scares to satisfy most viewers and players. But I'm tired of the deafening music tactic used to enhance jump scares and their build up. Creepy is as creepy does, without the constant need for abrupt or ominous music. Give the player a chance to see the ghost and react to its creepiness before alerting us that something creepy is about to happen or has happened.
*gets attacked by like 4 ghosts, chairs moving on their own and reads a bunch of notes saying how the house is cursed* what in the world is going on here
why among everything, its the mice that caught my attention infact it doesn't run from humans and they are well fat. Meaning there is no lack of food in an abandoned hunted house. (game logic I know but still)
I liked watching this game, Ill give it a solid 7.5/10. The ending wasnt what I wanted but the start was good and it maintained a strong atmosphere the whole way through. My favorite part of this whole game is the protagonists voice though. The chipper and curious inflection in his voice gives me the impression that he may not really be cut out for the ghost hunting/demon exorcising business, but yet here he is, doing by himself what 5(?) others couldn't do; all while, in my perception, being only semi-aware of the major danger he's put himself in by being in this house with these spirits that killed all of his friends. I think a good moment this is shown is when he finally discovers that the door has been bricked shut, he doesn't sound panicked one bit, makes me chuckle and adds a certain charm and unique flare to the game that you don't find elsewhere. While I doubt this was intentional, I think it worked, well for me it did anyway.

They probably locked most of the doors to keep the evil at bay, since they use zodiac symbols to seal it off, I mean...if you can't destroy them, at least hold them
So what I'm gathering from this game: The setup actually works on paper and for the first half of the game, it's genuinely scary. But the constant backtracking and absolute laundry list of objectives makes fear give way to annoyance. The constant prompts for every single movement (i.e. crouch, using talismans, etc.) feels like the game is holding our hand the entire time. After a while, you gotta make the player remember stuff. And the voice acting... don't even get me started on that. Makes the performances from the first ever Resident Evil seem Oscar-worthy. Lol
The beginning of the game had a really good start. It was kinda spooky at points. However, there are a few things that I think made this game flop. 1. Wait time Some of the segments where you have to wait for something to happen take too long. You sit there for forever and the fear factor dies. And in some instances you don't even really get a clue as to what to do next. 2. Item hunt A big part of this game is finding an item to get another item and so on. This game has way too many objects which you need to find and it's annoying and takes forever. It takes away from the gameplay itself especially when you don't know where to go. 3. Navigation You don't get a map and this house is stupidly huge and maze like. It's like Visage, you can easily get turned around and in some areas it's hard to tell where you're going. 4. Camera work You are playing first person, which in some games it can be beneficial for the scares. This character constantly gets thrown around by the ghost and the camera constantly moves super fast and in jerky motions. It's almost bad enough to cause motion sickness, I wish there was a way to turn it off for the more sensitive people. 5. Storyline Storyline started off strong, but it started getting weirder and weirder. You went from burning 3 objects to banish a ghost to suddenly doing voodoo and other stuff. There's a lot going on and it got confusing. Overall this game is way too long and the jumpscares start getting less interesting the longer you play. It feels like the developers ran out of ideas and started throwing in random plot twists. And then you get the ending where your character dies, not exactly an ending that makes 5 hours of gameplay worth it. The graphics are pretty, the amulets that banish the ghost are cool, the notes are fun to read. But overall this game is a flop.
I genuinely want to be like this guy: going through a fucking haunted house infested with demonic creatures yet he still sound like Charlie Brown on sugar high. Talk about positivity! 🤣
Wow! You didn't afraid of playing this game? I'm when I play this game I will take a time for the continue back and I'm cannot sleep at night but you so dare to play this game ever I love it and I like your video😊❣️
Might be a game to the creature, telling them to escape but then the people trapped inside realizing they can't and then them having the realization that they are going to die trapped in a manor of which they could have avoided... Just a thought
I feel like my first response after cleansing a house of demons is not to very, very slowly saunter out of there, taking all the time in the world. I feel like they just made a "bad ending" because that's what's expected of the horror genre. Oh well.
Well...I'm subscribing against my will! I say that because I LOVE watching your videos, but I always regret after because I'm a chicken and can't sleep at night, haha!
I knew it. It's like Outlast. He wouldn't be able to escape xD His freedom was good till it lasted. Great gameplay as usual, SHN! Looking forward to Fearfest too~
This guy's got balls of steel. I don't think anyone could be in his shoes and be like yes just a lovely stroll though this creep house with my friends dead and a evil ghost thing that wants to murder me horribly.
Holy cow... the new guy you play at the start of the real game...looking at door and saying, "Maybe there's a key around!" 🤓👍 That was WAY too upbeat. 😂
i dont get this game, first it tells you to escape from the house, so can't you just break a window? second, when you burn the last artifact, can't you just use one of the 5000 candles on the floor the light up the torch?

However, there are a few things that I think made this game flop.
1. Wait time
Some of the segments where you have to wait for something to happen take too long. You sit there for forever and the fear factor dies. And in some instances you don't even really get a clue as to what to do next.
2. Item hunt
A big part of this game is finding an item to get another item and so on. This game has way too many objects which you need to find and it's annoying and takes forever. It takes away from the gameplay itself especially when you don't know where to go.
3. Navigation
You don't get a map and this house is stupidly huge and maze like. It's like Visage, you can easily get turned around and in some areas it's hard to tell where you're going.
4. Camera work
You are playing first person, which in some games it can be beneficial for the scares. This character constantly gets thrown around by the ghost and the camera constantly moves super fast and in jerky motions. It's almost bad enough to cause motion sickness, I wish there was a way to turn it off for the more sensitive people.
5. Storyline
Storyline started off strong, but it started getting weirder and weirder.
Fact: "The most intriguing was the discovery of the body of the man who currently owns manor house Dwight SCHRUTE"
'kid ghost jumps up on table' brat you gon learn what my squat limit is today.
I genuinely want to be like this guy: going through a fucking haunted house infested with demonic creatures yet he still sound like Charlie Brown on sugar high. Talk about positivity! 🤣
Okay the little girl running at you under the table made me jump a lil bit Lol 😰😅😱
me watching at the 13:00 minute mark: "you're supposed to stay far away from the big baddie, not go towards it!"
42:53 Okay, that was legit scary.
Yeah
My curtains moved automatically after watching this
“What’s that?”
last scene was hilarious
a normal person would run when sees the door..
Wow! You didn't afraid of playing this game? I'm when I play this game I will take a time for the continue back and I'm cannot sleep at night but you so dare to play this game ever I love it and I like your video😊❣️
"GET OUT" written all over the place, but the player is prevented from doing so. ?
Might be a game to the creature, telling them to escape but then the people trapped inside realizing they can't and then them having the realization that they are going to die trapped in a manor of which they could have avoided...
Just a thought

I feel like my first response after cleansing a house of demons is not to very, very slowly saunter out of there, taking all the time in the world. I feel like they just made a "bad ending" because that's what's expected of the horror genre. Oh well.
finally full long gameplay, now i have something to watch before sleep
Rich people in victorian times sure loved to sit down alot
OH YESSSS. GONNA WATCH THIS THE ENTIRE NIGHT!
Well...I'm subscribing against my will! I say that because I LOVE watching your videos, but I always regret after because I'm a chicken and can't sleep at night, haha!
You are crazy good at these horror games! I love watching you play!
This game really scratches the itch for a long, creepy mansion, resident evil alternate type game.
Damn... Imagine doing all the House Chores on this Mansion lol. It'll probably take 1 Month atleast with 50 workers just for the 1st Floor 😬🤣
I love the brute force process of elimination method on the combo lock @46 mins. lol
I love the gameplays and video quality of this channel happy to be here
I am going to watch the game for the first time right now. This should be of some interest..
Holy cow... the new guy you play at the start of the real game...looking at door and saying,
"Maybe there's a key around!" 🤓👍
That was WAY too upbeat. 😂
i dont get this game, first it tells you to escape from the house, so can't you just break a window?
second, when you burn the last artifact, can't you just use one of the 5000 candles on the floor the light up the torch?
I was thinking exactly the same lol
@murnavid invisible bricks that light from outside shines through....the strongest kinda bricks there are.

How long does it take you to play a game this long?
I always think what does playing horror games continuosly like SHN has any impact in his or her mental health after so many years or any nightmares ?
Exactly
The very best gameplay!!hight quality and no comentaries))nice))
" you should not be here"..
So this dude is asking how to leave and the ghost just gunna ignore that.🤣
