So.. When I was a kid. I used to laugh at the video of Warhol eating a hamburger. Now.. I have a newfound respect for it. It went "viral" before the internet and social media was a platform. Its probably the first ever "mukbang" video and it captures our weird fascination of watching a person dine on film. Kind of like that "strudel" scene in inglorious bastards or that prison dinner scene in Goodfellas. And when I finally got around to watching 66 Scenes From America, the film that the burger scene was shot for.. I understood there and then that Jorgen Leth wanted to give audiences the world over a glimpse into America.. At that specific point of time. Frozen on film. If I had to put America 1980s onto film in only 3-4 minutes.. You won't go too wrong with Warhols quirky mannerisms, chewing down a Burger King.
Could not agree more! I love that you mentioned those other films, which really brings up questions about why we enjoy watching someone eat. Anyway, I love a green screen challenge, and this was definitely one! Thanks for the feedback and for watching!
When I was in Art School back in 1971 in NYC, I was enrolled in a Commercial Art course and we use to make fun of his work at that time but many years later while working as a Graphic Artist, I found his work to be very Interesting and liked most of it! I also remember laughing along with my fellow students in Art School about how we were lucky to go into a profession where we would never have to use Computers to do our jobs! No worries! Abstract art is difficult to understand. Actually, this is Pop-Art, which Warhol pretty much mastered. A good way to think about it is a mix of graphic design meets painting, drawing, etc. Warhol's background was in graphic art, he was just the first to blur the lines between graphic art and the fine arts. As for abstract expressionism, you should check out my episode on Jackson Pollock, who really made the art form famous. It's by far one of the most argued art forms, with many calling it trash. Hi Amy, thanks for the feedback! Hmm, I have to admit I'm having trouble remembering any nudity in this. I scrubbed through it a few times, and the only "nudity" I could find was a super rough sketch he did as a high school student (which I would consider similar to a rough DaVinci sketch.) As a former elementary art ed. teacher, trust me, I totally get your concern. I went through similar issues when I first started at the school. Even before discussing DaVinci and Michelangelo I sent an email home to parents discussing the human figure in art, and emphasizing/describing the importance of separating pornography and art. They are two very different things. I also invited parents to call me with questions, concerns, etc. Interestingly, as time went on it became less of an issue. I also found using Rodin and his works as an example of art not porn, they started to get it. I still used discretion, of course, with certain artists and works. Either way, I have a ton of elementary and middle school educators who use this episode, so hopefully it should be pretty safe! Again, thanks for the feedback, and for being an educator! -Nate

How can you mention so many trivia and totally cut out the fact that Andy Warhol was gay? At a time when it was illegal to be gay. Don't you think that might have affected his art. Much more than all the banalities you mentioned.
@@SandfordSmythe But why then talk about all the other things in this video? Also, we still have to talk about rampant street violence against gay/bi men in particular, bullying in schools, "gay" being used as a slur and young people having no role models. Every successful artist is an opportunist. It's the only way to make money.
Now i want Burger King!
Haha! I ended up grabbing a burger from a local place near me, and it was epic. Thanks for watching!
I was looking for it , it’s a bit different than I learnt , but thanks anyway
Thanks for watching and the feedback! If it helps, I do epic amounts of research and have my work checked by an art historian. I do leave things out from time to time, but if I don’t, these would be 30min.:/
How can you mention so many trivia and totally cut out the fact that Andy Warhol was gay?
At a time when it was illegal to be gay. Don't you think that might have affected his art.
Much more than all the banalities you mentioned.
Maybe we are at the point we don't have talk about it.

But why then talk about all the other things in this video?
Also, we still have to talk about rampant street violence against gay/bi men in particular, bullying in schools, "gay" being used as a slur and young people having no role models.
Plenty of reasons in my opinion to talk about it.
You didn't say Claes Oldenburg's name correctly...
SUZANNE HEWETT Yeah, unfortunately we noticed that as well after it had been up for some time:/ Always frustrating to make a mistake, but hey, part of being an artist and human I suppose! Thanks for watching though!
Sounds like me
what's up with that irritating high pitched noise in the background
Can't you just show the clip of Andy and the burger? Why is it you have to put yourself into that also?
So wat is pop art
i don't b uy it. We can't call an artist in the same vain when using that word to describe michealngelo or picasso, and andy and even more,, pollock. I don't buy it man. They're something else, but not artist. Idk why, i just don't buy it.
