Seeing this animation on the DS Lite was honestly an astounding thing considering the tech back then. It was a bit pixelated yeah but damn it was amazing animation for the time.
Most FF fans don't really care about the first three games but for a long time FFIII DS, was the only FF I had, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
I was really happy that the DS remake added more personality to the characters, I just wish we had seen even more development between them like we see in this opening. :D
I agree. It's a shame that this beautiful intro is nothing really like the game. I really did have some good times with this game though back in 2017, first half is good but then it's just bland. To me, this game was the start of when the Final Fantasy series was getting bigger and like an adventure.
In there defense I don't believe the characters in the original had any personality to speak of at all. Similar to FF1 they were blank slates you imagined as whatever you wanted them to be. That said if they were going to bother giving them names, new designs, etc., than writing a better story might not have hurt. That said Bravely Default has an almost identical gameplay style with way better characters and a straight up final fantasy story. Crystals needing protecting and all. It might as well be the spiritual successor to 1, 3, and 5 but with way more character development. Might be what you're looking for.
this game was so simple, yet so pure, so good... can you imagine an HD remaster of this game with voice acting, more fleshed-out cutscenes and graphics like the ones from the fmv opening? i'd be glad to buy the game again
LazyTomato I’d love for them to make a remaster. Do all the things you said but I’d also want them to also flesh out the story and give each of the characters even more developed character arcs.
Eh, I feel like the core gameplay is what makes FF 3 good. I dont want it bogged down with slow cutscenes or long dialogues. Just the same good combat and quick pace of the original.
I feel like, in this game, each of the main characters found out who they were through their journey. Luneth seemed pretty ordinary, but he became, in my opinion, the strongest in the group as well as their leader. Arc started as a weak kid, bullied all the time, and found that he could be strong. Refia was always trapped with her father, and she found that she could go out and see the world. Ingus was content being a guard for Sara, but found he could have friends and see new things.
Give me this, but as a complete game please. I'll never get over what this intro made me feel the first time I saw it. It was a true sense of RPG wonder.
Agreed, this opening is amazing...I just love the world of final fantasy....it makes me wish I could just visit each of their worlds and experience life like they do...except doom....THERE WILL BE NO DOOM.
I'm 26, I was 13 when I first got this on the DS and fell in love with it. My very first final fantasy game. I grew up, and had forgotten it. Until Shadowbringers. I lost my shit when I heard that familiar tune, it was my childhood. I cried.
I was 5 when I played this game and lost it two years later. I never forgot this intro but I somehow forgot what game it was from. I’ve been searching for the intro ever since and I’ve finally found it. Nostalgia just punched me in the face.
To me, Final Fantasy 3 captures the essence of "adventure" in its rawest, purest form. Assembling your party, saving town after town, beating bosses, acquiring the airship... Finaly leaving the floating continent. Realizing this map you had spent the last 20 hours exploring was just a floating dot in the clouded sky of a bigger world you were destined to re-awaken and ultimately save... The kid I was litteraly had vertigo when he arrived in the real overworld map for the first time, wondering what MORE could this grey and dark mist be hiding.
Dude, this is one of the most underrated Final Fantasy, I want a remake conserving the chibi style with some awesome graphics, new locations and better designed bosses, characters and script... This game was...so simple...and loving...
No other game intro makes me tear up as much as this one. Just so, so beautiful (both the music and animation). It's a shame the actual game was kinda bland.
+zoozbuh agree 100%. I'd soft reset every several hours just to see this op & wonder "why am I still playing this game", and proceed to land the final blow on Iron Giant.
FFIII for the DS was my first introduction to the series. I picked it up in a bargain bin at some point and it started my love for turn based JRPG's with a good class system. Last year I started FFXIV and returning to the Crystal Tower and the remastered music from FFIII there blew me away. So much nostalgia.
OH GOD, I played this game many times, and never bothered seeing the intro and this is the most awesome and beautiful I've ever seen, honestly, if there was an FF anime or something...
I never played a FF but I remember watching this trailer when I was around 8 or 9 years old and I was fascinated by it, now that I’m 18 it brings back a lot of memories but also this feeling of discovery and exploration I had at the time, even if I didn’t even played the game itself 😂
A remake in the quality of this opening would dwarf at least half of the other games in the franchise. This level of quality + the rest of the game would be amazing
Revisiting this after so many years. Right now everyone is playing Final Fantasy VII remake... yet here I am, watching this video and getting goosebumps just remembering playing this game and seeing the story unfold.
I didn't. Ingus was probably my favorite of the bunch. I always ran him as a Dark Knight. I ran Arc as a Dragoon. I ran Luneth as a Knight. And finally, I ran Refia as a white mage.
Speaking as someone who started with 14, I'm very glad to have found the origin of the song that plays in the epilogue of the Shadowbringers expansion. I've never even played this game and the song is already loaded with emotion
Dioooooos, jugué este Final Fantasy hace muchos años y sigue siendo mi favorito, pero nunca había visto esta cinemática, hasta he llorado de la emoción al verla. Que vasto. Un remake de FF III a gráficos actuales, sería... legendario.
I once found this game at my local pawn shop when I was 5 or 6; I just got my first DS two days earlier, and wanted some cheap games, but I never imagined that I would be buying a masterpiece that day.
Is there a word for the feeling a FF game gives off? It's not just nostalgia, but the feeling when you boot one of the games up for the first time. My first happened to be 13, and yeah it's not perfect but it tugs at my heart. It's just the opening of a FF game, any FF game. It's got that feeling of wonder and enchantment. A lens into a mystifying world unlike our own. It kinda takes my breath away, it's mesmerizing. No matter which game I play I always get that feeling.
This is my first FF game and experience 10 years ago. It feels nostalgic watching this intro; never had been skipped this intro whenever I came back to play FFIII on my PSP. Watching it now really brings back so much memories and feelings of the moment. This will always have a special place in my heart. Golden clap for that!
I would love a remake of this remake... As in, a remake with Luneth, Arc, Refia and Ingus. Idk if Bravely Default 2 style or Trials of Mana style, but with "Tales of"-like character interactions, with more detailed story. I mean, look how Sword of Mana expanded on rather basic story of Final Fantasy Adventure, making richer and more detailed story, where even "Monster of the Week" Boss Count Lee became an actual character who's tied deep into the game's plot. Final Fantasy 3's original plot would work great as a "Skeleton" of the story, which you can "Flesh Out" by giving more details and connections.
This has got to be my favorite introduction to any game ever. For the third FF and a game for the DS, the detail is awesome and there's so much to it. It's such an amazing intro for an amazing game.
Seeing these opening of older Final Fantasies makes me want XVI to be set in a medieval steampunk settings like older ones were. Hopefully with a darker version of the Warrior of Light as the main protagonist for a more gray story.
Thank you for information but I would like to see that translated into a console game for the next installation of the series. I sadly am not much into old styled byte styled turn based games anymore. Do you want the same for XVI?

It's about passion I think... Dude I'm watching this trailer and at the end I feel like I am about to tear up because the sights and the sounds and the visuals. Damn, man. I'm sorry... I still got my copy, and played it to completion just last year... I can lost my children, but never this game. This game will be buried with me.
I mean XIII bringed me back memories for III DS remake.
