Matt totally makes it up as he goes along. Tom thinks ahead. Editor suffering a hangover today. Edit: no disrespect intended to anyone. Still the best entertainment on any medium.
2:32 Tom: “there’s nothing our here, but there’s lots of it.” This is a classic line! One that I will use on my future trips into the unknown. Thanks Tom!
Funny how the channel has come full circle. Started as Winder towing and Matt would explain how he liked a light vehicle with NO winches and now it is the heaviest vehicle with multiple winches. He keeps adding to his tool bag. Made it look easy.
The wrecker would be a "Game Changer" if you had bought it and it worked good. Being something that you dreamed up and built from the ground up is something really special.
Matt’s nuggets of hindsight wisdom are some of the best I’ve ever heard! After a long drive and asking if we have the keys to the vehicle: “I guess it doesn’t matter when we ask, as long as the answer is yes.”
For those the enjoy things like the History Channels Mega Machines and Modern Marvels these episodes make perfect sense. The video doesn't have to be filled with barely getting the job done because the right tool isn't available and ingenuity and instinct are the only concepts present. These videos are satisfying in there own right. A bit like Diesel Brothers having access to so much equipment, the task is to figure out what NOT to bring.
I love how Matt approaches a job and goes with the flow. I think he works on a problem in the moment. As he said once if he makes plans he probably wouldn't do it anyway. Watching this channel is the best part of my day!
I’ve enjoyed watching the evolution with Matt’s techniques over the years. In the beginning he didn’t have even one winch and didn’t think they were needed. Now the Off Road Wrecker has 8 of them! The rescues have become more precise. Although, there was a lot of entertainment watching them get things done with the same equipment I have on my Jeep.
As an (amateur) off-roader, I have zero problem watching easy recoveries. I love seeing a properly equipped team do their job like it's another day in the office. Personally, that tells me they know what they're doing and they're comfortable doing it. Keep up the great work!
I’ve been watching the channel for 3 years now …. This was the best video … it was just a day with the boys working … this channel just makes us feel apart of the team in a way
There are geodic-shaped garnets all over the top of that mountain…just laying out on top of the soil. Very cool place. The kids love it out there. Bring water and a chipping hammer.
I drove a conventional tow truck for years. I found planning before you arive to be a waste of mental energy. In my experience of venturing into the unknown in the dark to rescue a stuck vehicle, concentrating on things that are not happening yet can be detrimental. Most of my off road jobs were solo eddorts out of cell service and atention had to be payed to not being stuck myself 😂 14:51
I feel like Matt himself is the ultimate tool for the job. He assembles a crew of people and equipment to use as extensions of himself. Using this process, his success rate is top notch...and always entertaining to boot!
If you would have left off "for the job" you would have become my new comedic reply hero!.. But you didn't...so you're not... Lol...😊...Have a great day!
Having the right tool for the job is one of the real joys of making things go right, and the WLORW is surely the most awesome tool for the job! Another joy is watching real professionals at work making it look easy. Love you guys.
FYI Tom to turn on the accessory: simply press the start button with the key fob near ignition without your foot on the brake. Works in every vehicle with a key fob. Some vehicles require you to hold the button longer than others. But essentially all the same. Great vids keep em' coming!
Great job, you all have come a long way from when Matt didn’t like winches, building the wrecker has been a game changer for you all, congratulations on the success you have achieved
I vote for blank slate. Matt knows that every situation is somehow unique, and his approach is to look at the situation and best determine how to leverage physics, terrain, and the tools at hand to recover the vehicle in question.
Yeah he does clearly have a talent for this, despite not being big on computers or sums. It's an impressive machine to just have spring from your mind (with some good advice from those that went before). And I presume the success of this channel and the associated businesses helps him have the budget to get this stuff done - it can't be cheap.
Matt isn't a wrecker operator, he is a genuine recovery technician. No two recoveries are the same and being able to visualize the best route for recovery is a gift from experience.
That had to be the sneakiest of sneaks on a trail that barely is wide enough for one truck and sneak by with the world's largest off road wrecker basically on the hillside where the slightest loss in traction could potentially send both trucks down the embankment....you either just have mad skills or you just have gone mad or maybe your both and thats what makes your recoveries and channel as entertaining as it is and why all of us keep coming back for more 👏
Tom, you get into accessory mode on push to start cars by having the key in the vehicle and pushing the start button without your foot on the brake. First push is 1 key turn. Second push is “on”. Put your foot on the brake and press the button and now you’re running 😎
Thought it was funny that Matt even tried to go around the truck instead of just driving straight up the hill into the same recovery spot, perhaps the air lockers are being uncooperative?!? Also, I think I remember Matt saying he's a very visual kinda guy, so he's not going to waste too much brain power on conceiving a plan when he hasn't yet seen the full situation. I mean, generally they know something about what needs to happen because they've done similar recoveries, but the real plan doesn't come together until they are on-scene. Also, that wrecker is just bad azz ... but there might be one improvement that might make some recoveries even easier, I think Casey LaDelle mentioned it, Matt could easily install a hidden wheel lift, that could be another game changer!
Quick tip for getting a push-button start car to accessory mode: If your foot is not on the brake and you press the button once, that is the equivalent of the “Accessory” position. If you keep your foot off the brake and press it a second time, that will be the equivalent of the “On” position. A third press will go back to “Off”. Hope this helps for the future!
6:12 I LOVE how Johnny Boy taking a wrong turn led into the best most authentic ad for why you should absolutely call a service like Matt’s, unless you want your car to look like that. “They should’ve called Matt’s Off-road Recovery”
To Matt: In response to your question, I think you might get a vague idea of what you might do but still depends on what you see when you get there. To Tom: Tap the Start button without stepping on the brake and it’ll go to accessory. Stay awesome guys!!
I do rescues on the East coast. One tip I’ve learned from rollovers or potential rollovers is to roll the windows down. During rollovers the side windows will break covering the driver and passengers with shards of glass. Rolling the windows down contains any broken glass inside the doors.
NO plans en route! Matt is a smooth brain. He functions as it happens. That is how he welds, fabricates, and schedules. If you argue, the replay of episodes will betray you. That is Matt...it is good. Why fight it?
Your planning is perfect Matt a little on the journey in then when you get there. That Wrecker is indeed a game changer. Loving the close ups of those big tyres doing an awesome job.
I agree Matt, I love the west desert. It seems like just a lot of sage brush and nothing but it's so quiet and peaceful out there. I love rabbit hunting out around delta and dugway areas.
I figure Matt has done enough jobs that he's not planning ahead so much as taking mental stock of his onboard equipment on the drive in. Pretty much all the off camber, off the trail recoveries are the same ... check stability for 1 or 2 recovery winch locations, check for bottomed out critical areas like oil pans and gas tanks, find a winch point to winch from, find attachment points as low as possible, give it a tug and see what happens. Still awesome to watch every time, even if it is partially predictable! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
@@spencermcmurdo9895 I worked on farms and ranches when I was younger. The experience gave me skills that served me well, both in the Army and in my later life as a field biologist. The thing I wonder is if there was a spotter at the wrecker to make sure it was heavy enough and it’s footing was strong enough to make sure it did not come down the mountain. So we got a call. In todays episode: The sand turns to mud, TomTom builds a swimmingpool inside the MORRVAIR, and Matt has a go at glass blowing as a new hobby.
FINALLY Matt fills up BEFORE going out!!!! What he did not address is why he goes out with inappropriate equipment, and thinks it is OK. Take the wrecker out way more often!!! As you said, it makes the job easier!.
Tom, I doubt you'll ever see this, but for Push Button Ignitions, Keep your foot off the brake and tap the Ignition button once for "Acc", tap it a second time for "Run". If your foot is on the brake it will only start.
I would imagine that you have multiple plans created and being created as soon as you find out about the job. Those plans get revised constantly as new, better, more accurate information becomes available; with the final set of plans made when you arrive at actual job. Great video guys.
Matts team, I know this is a 5 month old video, but I hope y'all see this. Tom had trouble getting that Ram into accessory only, here's a little helpful advise about vehicles with Push Button start. You can put the vehicle into on(ACC) without cranking by keeping your foot off the brake and just holding the start button for 10 seconds. I know this works on Chrysler and GM vehicles with push button start. hope this helps!
With the exception of the "Matt's Offroad Recovery " banner on the door... The wreckers' character and "rough" look fits perfectly with the Mining Surroundings.

Had an idea for an improvement on The Heavy Wrecker. Forgive me if it’s been said a bunch already. Use the foam rubber bumpers that dangle off the sides of boats as bumpers to build into the back side of the wrecker. It would protect cars, be cheap, and last forever.
8:10 I really don’t understand why he couldn’t have just been half a foot over. Even 1 ft. The wrecker wouldn’t have been tilted any more than it already was.

I think they uploaded the wrong draft. Great job by Matt's crew though.
There seem to be some audio overlaps and a red screen for a while? Did a track get bumped or shifted by accident in blender?
Moving the wrecker around the truck was much easier with the rear axle steering! The wrecker, and the expert usage of it, made this look easy like you said. Well done.
The banter just keeps getting awesomer!! Good contrast to the total terror of some of the work you pull off, too!!!
i guess something get wrong with the Video cut xD
Sloppy audio track.
And video!
Writer strike, editors most have gone too. Lol 😃
Matt always has a plan once he sees the vehicle, no use in asking prematurely! Thanks for sharing Matt, y’all stay safe my friends! Sending prayers for you and your family! Kirk from Louisiana! 🙋🏼♂️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👍🏼👍🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Matt and Tom are hilarious together 😂👏🏼 nice job once again guys 😎🤘🏼
I'm glad to see the wrecker getting the attention he deserves and some jobs worthy of his time.
Love watching the Wrecker work, the right tool for the job is almost as much a pleasure to watch as to use!
So we got a call. In todays episode:
The sand turns to mud,
TomTom builds a swimmingpool inside the MORRVAIR, and
Matt has a go at glass blowing as a new hobby.
glass blowing...I LOVE it!!!!
In today's episode,
I fall off a cliff.
James falls off a cliff.
And, Richard falls off a cliff.
@@seanhelling I hope Richard was at least inside his hamster ball?
nice “Word” - that’s old school Bronx Talk. This show is great…oh Lisse you are missed…The show must go on..!”
YAY
Oh no, you were too fast today, #5.. And no bum cheeks in sight
I miss lizzy😢😢😢😢😢
Matt, you can keep on bragging and loving that wrecker. That thing is a beast of a machine and love watching it make things look too easy.
What a fantastic rescue!! Little diicey to start off with, but the best off-road recovery crew in the business, Pulled, Pulled through. As usual!!!!
Amazing how versatile the wrecker is with that rear wheel steering system! Great call adding that to the wrecker modifications, Matt! NICE! :-)
For your crew's sake and the customer, I am glad your equipment is working out for you. It's fun to watch too!
I lived in Heber for 2 years and spent a lot of time on and around Topaz mtn digging for topaz. Love the trails... and the pony express trail...
definitely when you get there. you enjoy every moment and when a situation comes up, you act accordingly and do things from experience
Yes, that wrecker is a definite game changer.
You did a fantastic job on building that rig, great to see it in action.
With the exception of the "Matt's Offroad Recovery " banner on the door...
The wreckers' character and "rough" look fits perfectly with the Mining Surroundings.
@5:09 “are you driving your car up there? I aint stupid, my car doesn’t go where it doesn’t have to go”.
Lady got some sense for sure.
Good morning. my name is Thomas and I come from Greece, I have been watching the channel for over two years and I am excited about your work. I would beg you if it is possible to put Greek subtitles so that I can understand you better. thank you very much in advance. keep doing what you're doing because it's fantastic. many greetings from greece.
