THREE songs in one! I love you honey but I hate your friends AND Takin' me back AND I'll be with you tonight! The Beatle influence is so clear. I wonder what the first record would have sounded like had John Lennon been available!
They have certainly borrowed from other generations. Even their song Never had a lot to lose, there is words in the verse from the song "My Girl" by I think either Smokey Robinson or another R&B artist. "I've got all the riches baby that one man can claim" 👍
Not only; the introduction is like a faster version of the Speak Now introduction, and the I'll Be With You Tonight verse is sung to a melody really similar to I Love You Honey But I Hate Your Friends, or so I hear.
You can really hear the Move influence in the bass heavy chunky riffing in this-one can only hope Bun E or the band eventually release all of these demos one day…the 2 track 1st album pre production demos, they tracked over 20 songs with Douglas fir that album in 76…they gotta release that stuff one day
So much Beatles influence in this early Cheap Trick song. I can definitely hear "Takin' Me Back" and "I'll Be with You Tonight" in this also, both would eventually become two of my favourites from the classic period this awesome Rockford band.
Thanks for posting this--never heard it! This is genuinely a killer song.....often early songs and demos don't cut it, but Cheap Trick's manifesto was clearly thought out even then. The middle bridge part is pure genius.
You are trying to insult Rick (For some reason) but you obviously know nothing of what you speak. This song is from 1973-4 and still has Randy "Xeno" Hogan on vocals because they had not hired Robin yet.
Amazing how Rick knew what he wanted "vocal wise"...and the feel of the song. Rick was / is a rock and rollin songwriter genius

A hybrid of "Takin' Me Back" and "I'll Be With You Tonight."
Couldn't place it but was thinking it sounded like a couple different Trick tunes that wound up on other albums.
It's not the last time they reused lyrics, or music.

Bun E has a YT channel now and is releasing lots of older stuff... It's called, Bun E's Basement Bootlegs
Their Bloomington, Illinois set list from 1976 brought me here. Thanks for posting.
You can see a pic of Xeno with the band at the end of the slideshow. It is the last slide. Find more rare unreleased Cheap Trick on my channel.

Wow. A little of Takin' Me Back, too. Thanks for posting.

Love these rare tunes, but my recurring thought is thank God they got Robin!!!!
Bun E. Carlos was a really steady drummer
Xeno does a great job here.
Yep, usually I think he sucks as a singer, but then again, who compares to Robin?
Just got my cheap trick Christmas card mike casale did an excellent job
I love my bands' demos 😭 oh
Sounds like “speak now or forever hold your peace”
Riffed off this for Takin' me Back.
is there a cleaner recording of this? sounds pretty damn good to me
Mikky B This is the only one I have ever known of. It's an early demo they never released I believe.
Yep.. they did reuse a few of the lyrics. I forgot to mention that in the description. Thanks.
thanks for sharing :)
I love their dream police album
So rare it's not even on RUclips
Wow!!
I sure would love to find a copy with Robin on vocals.
Like the first Ct made!
HOLY CATS
The house is rock n.
Where are the morons who gave this a thumbs down? How could you unless you are an opera fan and came here by mistake or something?
They are commonly known as trolls, idiots or morons.
Like so many cheap trick songs after "all shook up" it has great pieces and bits, but Rick just seems to fail when it comes to sealing the deal.
