Something interesting about this incident, the co pilot was able to save the day, by locking the Captain out of the cockpit. Earlier this year , the opposite result occurred, when the copilot locked the captain out of the cockpit, and purposely crashed the plane ( Germanwings flight 9525 ). We have yet to know what happened on the Malaysian flight that disappeared. Pilots have a high stress Job. we put our lives in their hands every time we fly, I understand that flying is the safest way to travel, but that is not excuse to not and try and make it even safer. we need to understand what made this Pilot snap, why after so many years of excellent service would he just snap. are pilots being over worked? is it sleep deprivation? could it be some medication he was on? - update I decided to do some research on this, seems the Pilot had a seizure from some left over traumatic injury as a child . he is current now has a lawsuit against Jet Blue, saying they should have noticed he was acting strangely , he missed the preflight meeting which he has never done, did not answer his cell phone and arrived disoriented that day.

+agriperma He's diabetic. Airlines can't discriminate just because a person has potentially mentally debilitating disease that could cost the lives of hundreds of people, that wouldn't be politically correct. Besides, we all know that people with these types of diseases can always be relied upon to take their medications. Right?
@ If he had type 1 which is the type that can cause you to pass out he couldn't get a license. If he had type 2 missing his medications hurts him but is just as unlikely to affect the passengers as forgetting to take your allergy medication. Your comment actually makes you far too ignorant to be allowed to drive a car day to day let alone operate a commercial vehicle of any sort, who knows how many traffic laws you never bothered to learn and break every day. Your going to get someone killed that way. ...... The final bit of satire is to make it clear to anyone that ignorant discrimination no matter who the speaker or how well intentioned makes things worse not better. In reality I'm sure your safe to drive a car. I am not sure you are safe to be around the general public though.
Don’t be angry at the pilot y’all. He had some sort of breakdown. I don’t think this had anything to do with drugs. He was most liking hallucinating. I feel very bad for him.
Wow! I wonder if people in the comments would support the mentally ill pilot if he managed to take control of the aircraft and deliberately crashed it like other murder-suicide cases where people are disgusted by the perpertrators that suffer some kind of mental illness who are so selfish that want to take their own lives along with innocent people. I list the cases: Japan Air Lines Flight 350 Royal Air Maroc Flight 630 SilkAir Flight 185 Air Botswana ATR 42 EgyptAir Flight 990 LAM Mozambique Airlines Flight 470 Germanwings Flight 9525 China Eastern flight 5735
Definitely not a seizure. People don’t act like that during seizures. If anything medically related it would be diabetic. People do some crazy stuff during diabetic emergencies. But definitely not a seizure or stroke.
Many countries still haven’t got to grips with the mental health of pilots. Clearly the captain should have been grounded long before. Now imagine what would have happened if the copilot had not acted this way. The germanwings disaster was the greatest case, regarding this problem. The airline knew he was suicidal, and yet, did nothing. You can’t dilly dally when it comes to air safety.
DoctorChained Are you a troll,. It’s so funny and obvious you haven’t put any thought into that statement. If you did, you would realise that the problem is exactly what you said. The airline didn’t know. wow... Because the airline should have annual health checks, mental and physical. But hey, have a good day 👋
1:08 'he tricked him out of the cockpit and changed the security code'...exactly what allowed the co-pilot Andreas Lubitz of Germanwings flight to kill 150 people. This must be changed.
It has a good and a bad side as you can see here. There it saved them with the germanwings flight it killed them. Rules were adjusted so now a pilot can never be alone in the cockpit.
Changed TO what, precisely? So much constructive criticism from the peanut gallery about something so wrong yet so little better to suggest. As tragic as the Germanwings crash was, absolutely nothing suggests that adopting the U.S. standard of never allowing a single person to occupy the flight deck to all others' exclusion isn't wholly sufficient. If the world managed to every possible one in twenty millionth negative eventuality, it would grind to a halt. We already have the lessons learned from how the U.S. reacted to 9-11 by changing our ways of life and vastly giving up more freedoms than the perpetrators EVER could have imagined - only to be run over by a bus or hit on the head by a falling brick instead. Construct your own cocoon to insulate yourself from every conceivable negative possibility if you must. I refuse to live under it. Until then, you're welcome to drive wherever you need to go, but I believe that's even less safe than flying.
Andreaz Lubitz never changed that code. We know because the lock makes a noise when the code changes, and that noise wasn't on the CVR. Nor was the alarm made when someone tries to enter the cockpit using the wrong code. Regardless of whether you believe that the copilot deliberately crashed the plane or simply had a stroke, the fact remains that the captain didn't even try to enter the cabin using his code.
Smart move from the co-pilot. Also fortunate they had an extra pilot on board. I’m sure he can handle landing by himself, but it’s probably reduces the chances of a mistake dramatically when you have both pilots.
An all American story??? What the fuck does that mean? I guess she means how the American metal health system has failed everybody, including an unstable pilot allowed to take control of a commercial airliner.
it means it's an American media source, so for the sake of public relations and boosting their ratings, they're going to cater to the emotions of the people in their audience... you're an idiot.
Jon Ultime also shows that airline management prefers to hire minimum wage losers instead of paying cometive wages and benefits to a higher caliber of crew members.
+Missy Rabbit The co pilot could have landed the plane solo, even if their wasn't another pilot on board. Having the two of them just makes things a bit easier. Commercial jets are perfectly flyable with just one pilot, precisely BECAUSE they need to be so in case one pilot is incapacitated by illness, death (it has happened!), or in this case a mental breakdown. But yes, having that extra guy around was pretty handy from a pilot-convenience standpoint.
Ryan Switzer Better to fly solo than have a flight into terrain when you run out of fuel because you didn't want to fly solo because the plane isn't single-pilot certified, though :p
I used to have panic attacks. I understand the situation and the feeling. You just loose control of your nerves, your whole body feels a false sense of doom and death. Imagine tripping and falling off the Empire State Building, multiply that terrible gut feeling by 100 and that's how a panic attack almost feels like. I emphasize with him.
No, I am sorry, there is not two sides to every story. Sometimes, there just isn't an excuse. A man piloting a plane with innocent lives in his hands is expected to perform at 100% every time. No ifs ands or buts. Pilots suffering from mental illness should NEVER be allowed to fly a plane until they no longer have the condition. Otherwise, time to find a new profession.
Up until he had a full mental breakdown, there was no sign of mental illness, and it was probably a result of stress. There's not much you can do to prevent something like this, only train for when it happens. The First Officer handled this situation in probably the best way possible. He got him out of the cockpit and away from the controls.
Correct. However, self disclousure of a mental illness should never lose a pilot his job outright. If self reporting results in punitive action, no one will ever self report.
I decided to do some research on this, seems the Pilot had a seizure from some left over traumatic injury as a child . he is current now has a lawsuit against Jet Blue, saying they should have noticed he was acting strangely , he missed the preflight meeting which he has never done, did not answer his cell phone and arrived disoriented that day.
+agriperma He's diabetic. Airlines can't discriminate just because a person has potentially mentally debilitating disease that could cost the lives of hundreds of people, that wouldn't be politically correct. Besides, we all know that people with these types of diseases can always be relied upon to take their medications. Right?
@ that matters what the injury was,
@ If he had type 1 which is the type that can cause you to pass out he couldn't get a license.

I list the cases:
Japan Air Lines Flight 350
Royal Air Maroc Flight 630
SilkAir Flight 185
Air Botswana ATR 42
EgyptAir Flight 990
LAM Mozambique Airlines Flight 470
Germanwings Flight 9525
China Eastern flight 5735
Everyone handled this perfectly. Sounds like a bad reaction to medications or drugs.
Sounds to me like the captain had a seizure, not a panic attack.
He was foaming at the mouth they said. Sounds like he was having a stroke. Sad really. Or even a diabetic attack.
It’s probably a seizure yeah
Definitely not a seizure. People don’t act like that during seizures. If anything medically related it would be diabetic. People do some crazy stuff during diabetic emergencies. But definitely not a seizure or stroke.
Seizure is automatically a disqualification for a pilot license.
RUclips algorithm: Why is this 7 year old video in my feed in December 2019!?!?!?
Yo me too WTF 😭😄
Because lots of pilots have been drunk flying recently
Have you been watching inside edition videos like me??
December 2019 here too!

The airline didn't know. Don't talk about things you're ignorant of.
Matt Pannell what?? The guy had a seizure
DoctorChained Are you a troll,. It’s so funny and obvious you haven’t put any thought into that statement. If you did, you would realise that the problem is exactly what you said. The airline didn’t know. wow... Because the airline should have annual health checks, mental and physical. But hey, have a good day 👋
@@madmatmp The doctors did not report to the airline that he was deemed not fit to fly. That's a fact.

When I heard them say that an off duty pilot came in to help land the plane and then they showed him in the cockpit helping, I burst into tears!
“I’m going show him what Iran is and I put him in a choke hold”😂😂😂
Lmfaoooooooo😫😫😫😆😆😆😆
Nnelg : nonsense.
jojosmooth I see both sides to the story... but most procedures are if a pilot has to leave the cockpit a flight attendant must enter the cockpit.
sounds like the average Airline flight to me.

Ah yes, from "Don't you worry 'bout a thing." Now I'm gonna hear Stevie Wonder in my head for a while, which is fine with me.
Thank God for the co pilot. He saved hundreds of passengers PLUS hundreds or thousands on ground. I cant imagine if the plane crashed.
Copilot is a hero. Thank goodness there was another pilot on board who snuck into the cockpit with the copilot.
+Biggus Richardus yes. it bothers me when news networks portray the first officer as some kind of apprentice, with less capabilities than the captain.
+Biggus Richardus That, and the fact that most commercial jets are not certified for single pilot operation.
Ryan Switzer Better to fly solo than have a flight into terrain when you run out of fuel because you didn't want to fly solo because the plane isn't single-pilot certified, though :p
+Biggus Richardus not sure what you mean by that. how does CFIT and a fuel emergency result from not wanting to fly solo?
I used to have panic attacks. I understand the situation and the feeling. You just loose control of your nerves, your whole body feels a false sense of doom and death. Imagine tripping and falling off the Empire State Building, multiply that terrible gut feeling by 100 and that's how a panic attack almost feels like. I emphasize with him.
Thank you and job well done to the passenger volunteers and crew. Courage, bravery, and level headedness saved lives.
Sometimes there's no symptom until the explosive mental collapse...
Nothing for to report before the incident because nothing happened before.
If self reporting results in punitive action, no one will ever self report.
oh he self-reported alright. just short of hijacking
***** I'm talking about self reporting to a superior - while on the ground. What he did was not self reporting
