So good to hear Shaw's words come to life. This is brilliant.

      I have a question.
I recently saw a documentary on the life of Superman actor Christopher Reeve.
I learned through this that when he told his dad that he was gonna play Superman his dad was proud of him at first because his dad thought he played in a movie adaptation of this play.
But his enthousiasm was over when he learned it was Superman the superhero comic book character.
I know back in the day comic book characters where seen as lower entertainment for children so i get why he wasn't proud of his son for this.
But i think even by 1978 standarts more people probably knew Superman the superhero over the play Man and Superman.
So what i really would like to know is what made this play so special that his dad was so proud of it?

Utterly Brilliant! Fiennes is charming and fast paced and a real treat. One of the fastest, witty scenes I have seen since Bullshot Crummond! I look to seeing more , as its late at night and soon to bed for me.

Holy Mother of God! Fiennes steals it (what a tough role). Tim McMullan as Mendoza wows as well. Witty to no end. (Thanks for the upload.)

I watched the late, GREAT Pete O'Toole play Jack Tanner in the early 80's. Never been able to find the recording but with Indira and Ralph, I'm sure they will do this wonderful play justice.

I would love to see the original with Eric Porter and Maggie smith, though not sure if the BBC preserved it for posterity.

The earlier radio version (also with Fiennes) is complete, four hours and 17 minutes. This is an actual performance cut to three hours plus five minutes.

I saw this when it came out. Nice to see it on stage, having grown up with the radio production. Fiennes's physicality is electric. Though the actress playing Annie made some strange acting choices, randomly shouting 10% of her lines to Jack somewhat detracted from an otherwise charming performance.

I wanted to watch this play, but stopped, because I did not like the fact that the play director used a modern swivel chair instead of an appropriate vinatge chair. I also did not like the modern dress of the girl who announced Tanner's arrival. I think an old drama should be played in such a set design that reflects the time period of the drama as best as possible. May be others like to watch modern and old fusion, but I do not like it. I want to see & hear a drama in its original form as much as possible.

@amtRemember I prefer old costumes for old plays to match it as best as possible. Many old costume movies were made keeping costumes & settings according to the age of the story. I like time travel. Mismatching irritates me.

It’s not “carelessness” or “stupid.” These are artistic choices. Who are you to sit here and tell people how to create their art, especially in such an insolent manner?

@@enjoyandcarelifeNow that we know your preferences, would you mind explaining why this is something wrong with this production? Because that’s a you problem that only demonstrates that you’re not paying enough attention to the story.
