I bought an Arlo camera. No where did I read anything about a subscription service, free for a limited time or anything else. After the free trial period was up my camera stopped working since I didn't subscribe to the service. I am not happy.
My family is in the same situation and we are freakin pissed only we didn't use freakin. They need to tell you this stuff before you buy it. Not happy at all.
Same here. It seems arlo is being deceptive by not divulging this before we purchase!! I surely wouldn’t have bout these expensive new cameras had I known… ugh
@@MichaelSD91 I mean Arlo is pretty much dominating the home security camera market so they kinda have the power to not caring what customers think because we got no other better options than Arlo.
I think Arlo is deceptive too. I bought a camera expecting it to work on WiFi and find I have to pay $4.99 a month. Deceptive. No where was that mentioned until during set up.
1:59 I guess I was looking for you to mention how many minutes or seconds do you have in order to open that video before they delete it on the Arlo cloud/app
I bought this Arlo camera because my sister had one and she had constant saved videos for yrs without a subscription. After a mth, mine stopped saving feeds! Now they are telling me i had to subscribe. I read somewhere that you can buy a smarthub for it and avoid a subscription or just find a system that you dont have to subscribe to.
Damn, I'm realizing this now. The Arlo website said you can have a local storage option without having a subscription. But my older cameras record (even without an external storage attached for additional local storage space). But the newer cameras (Arlo Essential Spotlight) still won't record. I tried to work with the settings, but still no recording. Even the Library section of the app doesn't list the newer cameras on the Filter part of the Library, just the older ones. There is probably a software limitation with the newer ones. I guess the company considered this as a "loophole" and changed it for the newer models.
so basically without paid subscription, u will only get basic motion notification. Just a pure basic motion and it won't state what triggers the motion. With paid sub, u will get that smart AI motion notification that states what triggers the motion (human, animal, package). Also need to confirm without paid subscription, will u lose the Activity Zone feature? so without a paid sub, is the camera going to scan ANY motion from the ENTIRE screen?
That's all I want and I'm not even getting that from my pro 2 cameras. They stopped working besides live viewing. Nothing is saving to my USB and no motion alerts. Luckily I have a wired system as well.
Yea I've been using the older Arlo system forever. Needed another camera and had to buy a pro 4 as the older ones aren't available anymore. I've always operated using the free cloud sub and will not be changing that ever. So it seems the newer cameras require a sub if you want the video saved for viewing in the app. I'm still researching to determine if that is for certain true but if it is then I guess I am done buying Arlo products and using that system. I need to research it but it looks like I can get the features that I want out of the eufy system. This is really sad as I like my Arlo system but I really don't want to deal with another sub to something, I've got too many already.
Wait, I think you’re saying once you get notified that there is a motion detective you open it and watch live???….. I could’ve sworn they said Arlo Pro 4 Spotlight saves the video on Arlo cloud, for like a week, that you can save/transfer that video to your phone.
I have arlo pro and not only can I save/sent recordings to whomever I choose ( save via Google photo app) I'm able to storge the real time (usually 3-5sec delay) clips using a card reader/micro sd card I plug into my arlo base station. I can utilize up to 3 arlo devices of my choosing. I what us said in this review is correct when trying to connect arlo without a base station. Hope this helps
Arlo can suck it. I had two cameras and to add two new ones seemed like no problem. But then the “premium feature” revealed itself. Only the old ones will record and the new ones are premium and you must pay. Ok there is USB storage at no cost. Oh but you need to upgrade the hub for a hundred and fifty bucks to view them on the app. I hate tech companies so much.
can't i buy an arlo hub, put in an sd card and save the video? yes know id have to play back the video thru the hub or take the sd card out to view on a laptop.
I think video will still save to an SD card or USB device plugged into the hub, but to view it you have to take the card/usb out of the hub and put it in your computer which is a major pain. At least with your scenario that someone robbed your house, you would have the video though assuming they didn't take the hub or the SD card.
Confused about your post of subscription for Wyze. My Wyze cameras record to storage chips in the camera --- no charge. To record to the cloud, yes, but why is that needed?
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Thank you for sharing. I just three Arlo pro 4 camera, after I install everything, it doesn't record, the spotlight not even turn on when I am walking infront of camera, now I found down I have subscribe, I will bring back to retrurn tomorrow. It took me long time to install and set up, what a wasting time for my weekend...good bye Arlo.
No to Arlo subscription. There are better cameras with local storage and retrieval. I will be returning the Arlo camera I bought as they are nothing but a dead weight w/o subscription.
@@striker44 bit late now, some how I managed to get another month trial with a new email address, but now I think arlo has updated the app or something cause won't allow anyone free recording. I am so angry as there was nothing on the packaging and I refuse to subscribe to scam companies like this
Arlo has lost storage, but you have to DL every thumbnail to view one at a time and you cant see when you aren't home. Complete trash unless you want to pay monthly $$
I moved back in with my parents today I just cannot be seen living in a house with a Arlo system on it lol. these things are awful my mom pays 80 month too -_-
Not able to record (unless you paid for subscription which the packaging doesn't tell you) is pretty much useless. if something happens in front of the camera and you got no evidence to save your video to, the only function the camera has is let you see something is happening in front of your eyes and that's it. Imagine going to the police with nothing to show for even after you installed an EXPENSIVE camera .....
Arlo sucks! They do not Disclose their monthly fees upon purchase of their cameras, and I find that deceptive and misleading! I am going to return my 2 cameras for refund and find another camera that is Truthful in its product and it’s operation.
They took away having law enforcement to use. Had my cameras 5 years. All of a sudden had to subscribed $20 a mouth. Not worth it when it fails to record incidents. Often blurry. Does not film at night very good. Why started looking what problem Arlo is having. In the market for another brand
wont buy this brand again…. it worked for 3 months and then started asking for subscription..whicj i didn’t do:….then it stopped!! waisted $200 and i am a pensioner.. so disappointed!! my nephew told me to buy an eufy!!! i didn’t listen!!
recommending to buy a camera with 'local' storage is total nonsense. What good does it do when a camera has a built-in SD card slot? Every crook knows that and all they have to do is rip the camera off the wall and take off with it, SD card and all and you got nothing left to review. Cloud storage is the only way to go to secure your important footage.
Well I guess it’s nice that the camera doesn’t tell you how’s it’s stored. I wouldn’t tell anyone about the card, make ‘em think you pay for the subscription, yes even your kids and friends…I am however not happy with this product, I bought the Arlo go, pay a fee for the camera to run on off cell towers(cool idea, if power is ever lost) was not told about the subscription, because I pay a fee to Verizon I figured they had a plan for it…
Local storage should be separate from cameras for security reasons you point out. Cloud storage is unnecessary, and subscriptions are expensive. Local storage should be accessible but trusted family and friends, whom you give access to. Cloud will be localized with AI at the edge/ local. Cloud services is "past" technology with AI at the edge taking over, and users have full control of their own data.

Don't buy arlo the old cameras have local storage. The new cameras don't. This company is a complete ripoff.
They will still save to an SD card in the hub I think though, right?
@jaydearmond9785 Nope, I have an SD card and a flash drive. They both don't work with the new cameras. 😖 My old cameras save video to the hub fine.

exactly what i was thinking. Sure, you have to buy a hub, but you can get by without a subscription.
I don't care about subscriptions I care about privacy and want the video to not leave my network
I paid for an Arlo camera subscription and still can’t see my devices. Can’t find anyone live at Arlo for help.

Be aware that if not subscribed you will be unable to set activity zone
was wondering about this too. Activity Zone is crucial for those running the cam without some sort of plugged in power source.
It will not work. You can’t even stream a feed from the app.
Thank you. I was thinking the same thing 🤓
Without recording is not worth it.
I have eufy and does everything without monthly payments.
Sorry Arlo
Yeah, but sacrificing privacy.. they just got data leak
And they cost way more up front
I spent over $800 on Arlo products. They are crap. Don't buy.

Like which brands at better with local storage other than what she said
Fork it I just spent 268 bucks for 2 essential spotlights, I had no idea I need to pay more to save my own video, I'm exhausted
Return it and save your money.

It's in their user agreement that they can make the hardware and software obsolete at any time, even the day after release
All of these suscription cameras are a complete waste of money.

I am going to do the same. They are as good as paper weights.
so you made a video to say exactly what the box says. wow
It was hard work, but somebody's gotta do it.
Decent hardware, but lack of affordable sub plans render Arlo out of touch for many.

We need to band together and fight this unfair business practice.
Big mistake buying this Arlo thing!
My experience is that the arlo essential has proven useless without a subscription
