Actually $78K is not really that crazy a price for this type of vehicle: I would not even consider that to be "expensive". Significant, but not expensive. You have to take the long view with these types of vehicles---they are not stylish personal luxury coupes that will be traded out in 2 years for the next one. These things do WORK for years, decades even. A 4WD Suburban LT is about $75K, a LR Defender 130 with just the 300hp I-6 and a few options is $75K and the Toyota will outlast either of those.
Rare today is the sight of vehicles like this actually "working." The majority are occupied by the driver and a passenger. Rarely do I see them full to capacity or pulling something. Maybe 20 years ago the majority were purchased for their actual utility. Today the majority are leased mall crawlers rarely used to their potential, and traded for another lease in three years. Don't get me wrong. I'm certain they actually "work" in certain areas but around here, about the only "work" they do it transport someone to The Galleria.
Smaller 3rd row and cargo space is trade-off for value and durability. Shares Tundra platform, NiMH pack instead of Lithium, solid axle. No other full-size SUV will go a million miles with standard maintenance. If you use it like a mini-van then definitely not the best option. If you tow/haul regularly or need high mileage reliability. This is the best option. Resale value tells proves Tundra’s and Sequoia’s are bulletproof.
I am buying one just like it next year, everything else is 2nd 3rd or last in comparison and I love the straight axle! My last 2 Expedition’s IRS road rough.
I wish they would offer the new Sequoia with the choice to not have the hybrid system like Tundra has. Also, be able to delete third row seat. My 2005 Sequoia is running strong. Third row seat has been in the corner of my garage for years. Gives so much cargo room.

You must excuse these boomers, they haven't caught up with the times yet so they still equate hybrids with being slow and sluggish like a Prius. Heck, even the next gen of the Prius will probably be zippy!

Almost upgraded from Sienna for all the towing and camping needs that this provides. however, I think having no payments is a good thing. I'll give it a few more years and see what they do with the platform and might pull the trigger then.
Still Toyota didn't figured it out perfectly. The quality of the vehicle is great but Toyota needs to come with extended length big size SUV such as the Chevy Suburban. What is the need of an 7/8 seater with out sufficient cargo space for the bags and golf clubs? Toyota needs to see what Chevy Suburban offers and create the Toyota Sequoia in an extended configuration as well.

Really think they missed an opportunity to make this a PHEV. For daily use, it would drop the actual fuel used substantially. Primarily they would only need to add a few hundred pounds in batteries to achieve this. And they would also get it up over 6000lbs, making it a better tax write off.

This new Sequoia is likely to inherent those buyers, and at 6000lbs Curb weight, your typical business owner can more efficiently write it off, making it cheaper than a smaller less expensive car. Add in a PHEV with 20-30 miles range, you could find yourself with a truck that uses half the fuel it normally would in a month. That’s $200 that isn’t coming out of pocket. You get the best of both worlds. An EV premium SUV that works well enough for daily use without the inconvenience around range and charging for road trips and towing. And in 10 years when an EV with lithium ion batteries will be as antiquated as an iPhone 4, PHEV will still be serviceable. There are buyers that would rather have a Toyota in the $80-90k range than a Range Rover/Defender, Escalade, X7, or any other premium SUV. The average Sequoia owner keeps their truck 10 years. Land cruiser owners keep them about 11.5. Those buyers are out there, and they are a different breed of customer.

Heartbreaking to not have cargo space. If you try and get all it can offer, not much, you kill the third row usability. So close to being a home run, so close. Electric motor would have been icing on the top.
I think an extended wheelbase is necessary for the Sequoia to be competitive in the segment. Maybe add an electric motor to that one for more get up since the mass is already so much.

I really want to like the new sequoia, but Toyota dropped the ball on everything behind the second row. The hybrid battery ruins third row leg and head space. And try as they might I’m not sold on the whole shelf system for the cargo area. Overly complicated for what should be a simple open space. The hybrid power train should have been an option not standard on all models. This works on the Tundra because the Tundra is obviously a pickup with a third row and enclosed cargo area. What executive or engineer signed off on this? I see that hybrid battery disappearing or being moved forward during a mid cycle refresh in a few years. After they fail to make a dent in Tahoe or Expedition sales because of it.

Most of the people who buy this SUV, are taking kids to activities or kids and pets on trips. You can’t have this new one full of people and then fit a bag of soccer balls, for example; in the back. The 4Runner is a better off-road option, it’s more maneuverable and still has better suspension and a much better price. A large, $80k SUV, with a cargo space that looks to be less than a Highlander, makes no sense to me. I have a 2019 Sequoia Limited, besides the old power-train and cheap plastic interior, it does it’s job Really well. I can fit five medium to large dogs in the back, two large child seats in the middle with enough room for an adult in between them and then tons of front row legroom. This new one, looks like a massive downgrade. Again, this one loses cargo space, no longer has room for a full sized spare? And lost its best feature in the segment, the roll down rear window.

These prices are fucken insane and just doesn’t make any sense to me. When I first saw it I actually liked it and was exited to see more and in the last 30 min I learned why they wanted to kill it. I just lost all desire for this. 3rd row sucks. Cargo space sucks and they tried pushing so hard how “smart” they were for coming up with a stupid divider thing even thoo we all know they did that because the battery in the back took a lot of space so they tried doing something but it was ass. Materials suck unless you go all the way to capstone. The only thing is the screen is big and tech seems ok even thoo I’ve seen many say it lags and ain’t great and the engine seems like it has good power but don’t make any sense why you would pick this over a Tahoe or any other American SUV for that matter. Back to the drawing board. ✌️
Its probably cheaper than any American suv with the same equivalent. Top engine from Toyota not even the 80k land cruiser has it. 437hp 500lbs of torque. 59 k for the base is more than reasonable. The reliability alone sets it apart from any American vehicle 😆

I'd imagine that solid rear axel is more responsible for any degradation or change in the ride quality than the boxed frame
The 3rd row height and impact on storage is a no go for me. The battery coupled with the solid rear axel makes the 3rd row and storage areas smaller.

6:00 Sequoia always uses fully boxed frame, even for previous generation. Tundra switch from open c to fully boxed for this generation.

Meanwhile, your Sienna will use less gas. Even as a hybrid this new Sequoia will likely get a combined 18 mpg.

These prices are fucken insane and just doesn’t make any sense to me. When I first saw it I actually liked it and was exited to see more and in the last 30 min I learned why they wanted to kill it. I just lost all desire for this. 3rd row sucks. Cargo space sucks and they tried pushing so hard how “smart” they were for coming up with a stupid divider thing even thoo we all know they did that because the battery in the back took a lot of space so they tried doing something but it was ass. Materials suck unless you go all the way to capstone. The only thing is the screen is big and tech seems ok even thoo I’ve seen many say it lags and ain’t great and the engine seems like it has good power but don’t make any sense why you would pick this over a Tahoe or any other American SUV for that matter. Back to the drawing board. ✌️
Its probably cheaper than any American suv with the same equivalent. Top engine from Toyota not even the 80k land cruiser has it. 437hp 500lbs of torque. 59 k for the base is more than reasonable. The reliability alone sets it apart from any American vehicle 😆

Not even an issue... by the time you get one toyota would already fixed it. They don't mess around with quality, they find the issue and resolve it asap.
