    I like his approach to the review, not complaining about the gamey aspects or the lack of an actual weighted ball. He just took the game for what it was and gave an honest review without being snobbish.

      +Froggerdog I totally agree! Andrew had carte blanche to speak his mind on the experience, and he really gave exactly what I was hoping: A review of bowling in VR from the perspective of an expert on the subject. Thanks for this acknowledgement!

    For Premium Bowling, the degree to which your hand is turned sideward determines the amount of spin, under the ball less spin, beside the ball more spin, they also ended up adding the shot tracker showing up on the side in a later update.

    Very good review. I want a game where you have to take at least three or four steps and slide to approximate real bowling. I sort of wanter ForeVr to be first because I like the look of the game more. But I want more realistic action even more so Premium may be my choice. Thanks for having a pro review these games.

    • @KingofNerds
      @KingofNerds  3 года назад

      Hey, Thank you, George! Assuming you have a way of sliding, I think you perform a full walk up and slide before throwing the ball - however, I don't think the physics engine would take the slide into affect. I love the idea, though! And in regard to ForeVr, I 100% agree. I was secretly rooting for it, as that's the game inspired this video! ForeVr added a 'pro throw' mode, which I believe takes a lot more of your actual swing into account. Have you tried that?

    If he would have watched the close up pin action on replays in Premium Bowling, he most certainly would have seen that realistic pin action he spoke about. As of yet, ForeVR Bowl doesn’t have that kind of pin action

    Idk if this was the case with the version of the game when the video got released or not, but there's a difference between the bowling balls' hook rating and also the oil pattern on the lane in Premium Bowling. Which would account for the extra spin further out. Considering the oil dissipates quicker there. Not sure if he was aware that the two flame patterned balls have more hook to them.

    • @KingofNerds
      @KingofNerds  Год назад +1

      That's a great observation, and I don't think he was. We're looking to return to the bowling games and I'll make sure that he looks into that and addresses it in the video. Thanks, ProxCyde!

  • @balmoraman4
    @balmoraman4 Год назад +1

    I don't know if he realized that Premium Bowling had oil patterns. He was talking about how when he threw from the right he got more hook, which tracks with the way the oil was set on the lane.

    • @KingofNerds
      @KingofNerds  Год назад +1

      I'm not sure if he did or not. There was a lot more video shot than shown, of course, and he may have mentioned oil patterns. Regardless, that's great info to have!

    I'm trying to understand normal hand position on these VR bowling games as a long-time hobby bowler. It seems like people are using more of a Wii Remote style of hand position where your palm is facing left as opposed to an actual bowling hand position where your palm is facing up. Is that normal?

    • @KingofNerds
      @KingofNerds  2 года назад

      I think you're onto something. I imagine the developer has the problem of making a game that is physics accurate, versus fun to play. After we shot the video I found a setting in ForeVR Bowling that I really wish I found prior to recording, which basically turns on accurate throwing. I enabled this since and found the throw and aim I had come to expect was now way off. I was almost instantly guttering the ball. The other bowling apps may have the same setting, but I'm not certain. As far as other sports, I've found golf appears to match your real world swing, so I believe it all comes down to a balance of realism versus the player enjoying themselves, you know?

    • @andrewehlers6659
      @andrewehlers6659 2 года назад +1

      The way I do it is I start with my palm facing up and if I want to curve the ball just before the release I turn my wrist like I am shaking someone's hand. I tried to mirror exactly what I do on the lanes as I did in the games but I think Greg's point is may be accurate. I was also able to keep my hand straight if I say I was going to pick up a corner pin. In my experience, the game for the most part did well in picking up the hand positions and the physics of the bowling lane means that you can really play and throw the same way you would in the real world. I hope this helps.

      @@KingofNerds I tried ForeVR Bowl tonight throwing the ball with my hand throwing wii remote style, palm half down, and the bowling worked much better. I never bowl IRL that way, although I could see what happens, but seems to work okay. I guess that explains why the VR Sports Challenge version says to rotate the controller 180 degrees in your hand (despite how awkward) cuz most people new to this probably try to bowl palm up. Interested to see what happens with accurate throwing on.

    • @smillstill
      @smillstill 2 года назад

      @@andrewehlers6659 I think maybe the weight of a real ball helps steady my hand IRL when I throw palm-up, while I over-compensate when there is no weight and keep throwing to the left.
