The TP Link TL-WA 1201 is a decent AP. The only shortcoming is if you plan to use the multi SSID mode in order to support VLAN's. The TP-LINK firmware does not handle this very well. The solution for multi SSID mode is to replace the stock firmware with OpenWRT. Problem solved.
@@autohans540 Good to hear.😊 OpenWRT works well. The documentation is a little clunky, but it is accurate. If you follow the directions to download and flash the firmware to your TL-WA1201, you'll be up and running in short order. If flashing firmware is not your idea of fun, the TL-WA3001 supports VLAN's well. Good Luck on your project.
@@Scott-ph2yk I've setup a workaround by setting my LAN ports (and therefore the WA1201) to VLAN 1 and the inbuilt router wifi to VLAN2. When I reach the need for VLAN3 I may get around to OpenWRT ;)
For my ac1200 wa1201 I have to enter the password on the bottom of the access point. I can't create my password. And when I do enter the password I am able to get through to set it up for client mode but at the end of the installation or whatever, it instantly goes to no internet and then a 404 not found error
After the screen goes to no internet connection I tried to connect my Xbox to the ap via ethernet cable and the Xbox has no internet but still recognizes the extended wifi, but it doesn't connect to the internet
This was a very helpful video. Many thanks for your thoughtful approach to this and for sharing your knowledge! All the best to you.
Can you maybe explain how to set up 1 network with 2 of these access points perhaps?
Very helpful video. Many thanks
This REALLY helped! Thanks a bunch! 🤩
Hi, the PoE injector cable length of 80 meters mentioned at 2min. - where is this 80m length coming from - have you tested this? thanks.

It's on readiness 1201, but it shows me a loop on my microtik
Hi, is there any option to set up this up without connecting the router to the access point?
In AP mode can I configure bandwidth control for a guest network?

I clicked the finish button and it was like I nuked the device. No signs of life.
