yeeeeeaaayyy, after 3 weeks of rewatching this video, I finally figured out this confusing tutorial :D. Let me break it down for those who need it, watch at 5:00 for tempo and finger placement. CHORDS: (G / / / /)(F /)(B/) (EM / /) (D open string) (C /)( D / the chord) (G / /) (low E, 2nd fret)(Em /) (A7 /) (C/) (G / /). PICKING PATTERN (first string=thinnest, sixth=thickest): ( G: sixth string, strum first three) (F:sixth string, strum first three)(B: fifth string, strum first three) (Em: sixth string, strum first three) (D open string: fourth) (C: fifth string, strum first three)(D chord: sixth string, strum first three) (G: sixth string, strum first three) (low E, second fret:sixth) (A7: fifth string, strum first three) (C: strum all strings) (G:strum all strings). The first two verses go like this, although the chorus is different. (Why she had to go...) Hopefully this helps a few people, I will pick apart the second part if some people need it. Till then, enjoy learning this beautiful song, Cheers:)). Also, if i made mistakes or there is something unclear, please tell me.
Thank you :-) - just two small remarks, i think you forgot an e minor before the a7, should be CHORDS: (G / / / /)(F /)(B/) (EM / /) (D open string) (C /)( D / the chord) (G / /) (low E, 2nd fret) (EM /) (A7 /) (C/) (G / /) and PICKING PATTERN: (A7: fifth string, strum first three)
Thanks for another great lesson wish I had a teacher like you when I tried to learn to play guitar 25 years ago I thought I just couldn't learn. Now I am 50 and finally learning to play turns out I just never found a good teacher. I know you probably get lots of request if you get a chance could you do a lesson on Keith Urban Only You Can Love Me This Way got my 32 wedding anniversary coming up in a couple months and would like to play it for my wife. Thanks again for all the great lessons you made an old man happy.
A DAMN LEGEND I HAVE A GENERAL REHEARSAL FOR MY RECITALS TOMORROW AND I’VE BEEN SLACKING OF FOR 2 WEEKS AND THIS TAUGHT ME “YESTERDAY” IN ONE DAY HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Daenz 0814 The recital itself did good :DDD my friend stayed after school to watch me I was pretty nervous at the “why’d she have to go.” Part since you have to slide the C chord and my fingers keep landing on different frets but with a bit more practice after the gen rehearsal I got the hang of it :DDD It’s a good song to preform for beginners like me since it looks and SOUNDS SO COOL
It also seems like he plays Em and G (the ones before each of the strings) a second time but with only one down strum instead of 3, and only then he goes for the open string (Em chord before open D string/G chord before low E string second fret) but I'm not sure maybe im just seeing things
Regardless it's kinda weird that he doesn't even mention the 2nd fret low E string at all while he obviously does play it. Or did he mention it and i missed it ?
Andy, Thank you. Thoroughly enjoyable. I very much enjoy spending time listening to you. You are a Wonderful Teacher. Thank for the info on the Journey Guitar as well. I've been contemplating a travel instrument and this looks like a Great option...I appreciate the informative heads up.
Hi Andy. I love your channel. When you're this good at playing the guitar or a certain song (you are great at both - as well as being a great teacher), is it easier to learn new songs/riffs because you are a good guitarist, or do you have to practice and learn new things just as much as a beginner would? In other words, does it become easier and quicker to learn new songs the better you get, or do you just get 'better' because you've learned more things?
There are tons of songs that are around an intermediate level (most commercial songs on the radio etc) so as you get better, it typically get easier to play most songs to want to learn. Unless you go out of your way to play super hard songs, in which case everything is relative and there are always songs that anyone can't play! So this probably doesn't help, but hope it does a little 🎸
great way to explain and give also beginners a chance to play this not-so-easy-at-all song, eventhough it sounds easy. Your voice is great, why aren't you in the top40 ? 🙂
Im in standard tuning and my guitar doesnt ever sound like other people’s do in standard tuning in videos. Mine is so much more lower sounding. Update: I tuned my guitar to the way the beatles had it and it seems to be going okay, but there may have to be a few changes. Thank you for this tutorial :)
If you're having trouble using ur pinky (5th finger), replace it with ur 4th Finger. So instead of 2nd, 4th, 5th finger. Use 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Might be easier on G for newbies. But keep on training that Pinky, you'll need it. Bless you all.
Some fully written out tabs would be helpful. I'm having a hard time seeing what you are doing with the first 3 chords. Great cover! Thank you for teaching.
Somewhat way over my so called pay grade, Andy. But would love to see you take on "Fly Away" by Blackfoot. Cheers and thanks again for another entry into my favourites!

I love looking to the comments and seeing everyone talk about how they got it super fast and I've been working on this for like a week and I still sound like garbage ;-;
Shane67000 if it’s in the key of G the way he plays it then you would need to move it two steps up to get to A so it would be capo on the second fret. With the standard tuning way.
Geez, its sounds great when l played it. l'm on my 3rd day learning on the transition of all chords. thanks for videos. gonna give you big thumbs up.. though the chords you display is a little bit different from the one you are playing.
@@reddog780 I know, and I wasnt trying to be a dick. I cant sing it at all. But the timing of the edit in the video was funny. He taught the lesson in standard like he said. But, right after he said he was gonna be in standard, the video cut to the performance which was tuned down. More an editing inconsistency than anything else. Just made me laugh.
Looks like Peter Crouch but sings and plays better than me. You barsteward!!! 🤣 Haha, ment in jest. But yeah, I literally saw the movie half an hour ago and now I'm trying out Beatles songs. Thanks for the upload Pete.
Hi Andy, I am your student and you're a magnificent teacher. You are doing a great job on "yesterday" , can you please do "I started a joke" by the Bee Gees? Greetings from Egypt.
I can learn just about any song. But when it’s stuff that is a one of a kind rhythm like this song. I think because I didn’t learn stuff like this until 20 + years into playing. So I highly recommend to new players learn a lot of stuff like this or John Mayers acoustic parts in his early music where it has a lot of rhythmic slapping on the strings.
This is a soulful ballad that expresses a nostalgic yearning for the past. It should be sung in F or E. G majors sounds too high for such a melancholic song.
White stick on circles which are removable can do the job of inlays until your muscle memory for this guitar fully kicks in might solve the inlay issue.
I tried to learn it yesterday, im here again today.
And are your troubles still here to stay??
But you are back and that’s the main part of learning ,keep trying and it will work.
All the best mate
Good one mate.

I want to ask you in the first week of learning the guitar do you directly learn the song or learn the chord first?
zapp ppp I personally go for easy songs like this one to learn chords.. if you understand what i mean
@@fahri3915 I learnt songs before chords which is properly a mistake
for the F version chord, its easier to use index, middle and third finger instead of using pinky
in the intro go 0 - 2 on the base note before the 1st chord change....its a killer move
Love it 👌🎸
I like this version but the original just feels right
If I wanted to play this in A, how far would I have to tune the guitar down/would I use a capo instead?
