True story: The Odds came to play my American college (Cornell University) winter of '97 as opening act for The Barenaked Ladies. I was probably the only fan of The Odds in the entire theater, everyone else was there for BNL. I interviewed the Odds backstage and then they said "Is it true that Ken Dryden played hockey for Cornell when he was in college?" I told them yes, and a minute later, they demanded I take them to the ice rink. By pure coincidence, it was 'open skate night,' so before I knew it, my girlfriend and I were suddenly ice skating with those hockey nuts The Odds. They were such cool dudes and it was truly one of the most random and awesome evenings ever.

Most of the 90's was the best, the end of the 90's was awful. But this is another classic that I remember from growing up. Listening to this stuff, as I approach the ripe young age of 30, brings back amazing memories of my youth.

This was the Odds' first breakthrough (and only) U.S. hit, yet they broke up some time afterwards---go figure. Believe or not, this song was originally written for the soundtrack of Friends, but it didn't make the cut for some reason. But yeah, they should have blown up bigger in the U.S.---never understood why that didn't happen for them, either.

Saw Trans-Canada Highwaymen (Canadian rock royalty) tonight outside Buffalo and finally met the ridiculously talented Craig Northey from the ridiculously talented band, The Odds. What a thrill. I loved the Odds. Whatever A and R man f'ed that up on both sides of the border should admit they weren't good at what they did. The Odds were in the top tier of Canadian rock, and somehow weren't included in it. A crying shame.
They released a perfect album... And then they disappeared... They only got my ear because WXPN here in Philadelphia played cuts off of Nest extensively. I never saw them in person until this video😂
Yep, they only got a tiny bit of airplay in the United States unfortunately. I heard them once or twice on WEQX in Albany, NY. WXPN is a killer station BTW! :)
Lucky enought to see Odds at Danforth music hall in Toronto last weekend, still a very tight, amazing sounding band, with something to say. Their only crime was probably being canadian, or they would have been bigger then Oasis.
I saw them in a small club in Pontiac, MI in the 90s. It was a great show! I want to say The Presidents of The United States was also on the bill, but I don't remember for sure.
I used to go to The Roxy in Vancouver B.C. and these guys were the house band known as Dawn Patrol. They were a tight band even back then (although their drummer wasn’t the best). I was happy to see these guys “make it” but was a little disappointed they never achieved a higher level of fame. Good times though from what I remember 😂

For my money, The Odds went toe-to-toe with Sloan in terms of Canadian power pop in the 1990s.
I tended to think Sloan tried to appeal to more Rock n' Roll in general than power pop, which is probably why they were more popular
