I get giddy watching your videos and learning more than I have in years of art classes. You are also hysterical which cracks me up. Thanks so very, very much and, I know….now go get painting……….🏃♀🏃♀🏃♀
Wow, thank you!
I used to use a pair of Red tinted glasses to help study in value only. Was a fast way to see in grey scale without fumbling with a photo or camera / phone. Time to find a new pair.
That's a good idea. I sometimes hold up a sheet of red film.
What a great idea! It beats the expensive app and I hope the red tint helps me to pull out values! Just ordered a pair off Amazon.
Great idea!!! Buying a pair now! Thanks!!
Just bought a pair, thanks 😊
*❤️Only God knows how much grateful i am. After so much struggles I now own a new house and my family is happy once again everything is finally falling into place!!*
Wow that's huge, how do you make that much monthly?
I'm 34 and have been looking for ways to be successful, please how??
I earn from investing in the digital market with the guidance of Mrs Mary Margaret Schimweg Brokerage services. I'm happy to talk about it..
Wow...I know her too she is a licensed broker and a FINRA agent she is popular in
US and Canada she is really amazing woman with good skills and experience.
I remember giving her my first savings $20,000 and she opened a brokerage account for me it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
3.50 YOU LEGEND... FREE!??!!!!!!
For this, and so much more, I'm sure I stand with the community in saying,
Thank you so very very much, for your time, input and knowledge.
It is always massively appreciated.
PEACE.
Noticed that new camera angle change and thought to myself “is this new” and of course it is from today. Nice to see how you continue to improve the production quality.
Great video, coach! Thank you! Appreciate hearing you talk more about edges!
I definitely need this lesson! I struggle with values. I just put this patreon lesson at the top of my art “to do” list! Thank you so much for this!
you so much. You are a great teacher.
I really appreciate this content, Chris.
Thanks!
I love your painting I’m trying my best to be good at painting
Thank you.
Great lesson!!
Thanks! 😃
Seeing value is so hard because I get so distracted with the colors. I did print off a screen shot and paint this as a personal exercise. I feel I learned something from it but I still have a lot to learn.
I find values the hardest, especially in black and white. I can sometimes save a color painting with random color.
Do you offer one-on-one instruction? I'm not a complete beginner but I'm having a VERY DIFFICULT time getting back into painting.
I struggle to “see” color/hue honestly. I’ve been teaching myself color theory for so long but I can’t grasp how to make colors “pop” it seems. My color choices look so dull.
So this video was a good reminder to return to studying values rather than putting all my focus on trying cool color combinations.
Have you tested how well you see colors? Try the online X-Rite color test. This is more than a color blindness test as even those people who aren't color blind can still have issues. You don't need a color calibrated monitor as this test is about relationships.
If you do well on this test, then look at a lot of art (including traditional and especially impressionists). Best is to go to an art museum, but books and online pictures are OK too. Some things missing from online pictures are that they are flat and colors are off. If you go to a museum you can see the brush strokes and colors. I went to a Van Gogh exhibit and the impasto (thick) paint is amazing. Amazing artist and master of color even though many of his paintings were affected by fugitive paints like the reds and yellows he used (paints which aren't archival and fade or change hue over time).
I've learned that colors will really pop if you use mostly desaturated colors and use highly saturated colors sparingly while localizing them at the focal point or points.
@@jaramiahredford See- I learned about that in a book years ago and started choosing less saturated colors, especially as a “base.” My contrast has improved, but I still feel like the colors could be livelier.
I went from having too many gaudy colors to too many desaturated 😅 But I’ll work on using saturation to emphasize focal point, as you stated.
@@asimian8500 I took the test and got a 0, which is apparently good. So that surprised me. I wish I had classic art museums/galleries in my area to do what you suggested 😒 I’ve always wanted to achieve that same vibrancy you see in Monet’s paintings. I would love to see a piece from him in-person.
What about glazing the B&W? Would that be helpful technique to separate the values from colors?
2:04 that cup looks familiar
When drawing with graphite I tend to go too light but when I paint I go too dark for everything and I end up with the same dark value everywhere so then I don't know how to lighten or darken things because It would mean repainting over everything and I would mess it up
could you say me how do you get that dark red? what colors do you mix to get that dark red on the dark side of the apple? i really struggle when i try to get that dark colors
Can I use acrylics here?
Hello, I’d like to take your foundations class. I got an email with a code but it didn’t work. I emailed back. Please help

My teacher allowed only pencil 6 months...then charcoal 6 months...then, later color.

Thank you for your tips! You always inspire me to paint. Now I,m going to paint from colored picture with grayscale. It is an interesting experience.
