In this video we take a second look at the XTOOL D8. The first time we used this tool was to program a new set of key fobs for the 2009 trx4. Here we take a high level look at some of the features.

i was looking to get D9S but it have 6500mAh battery with bigger screen & that mean the battery will not last long without charging! while the D8W 10000mAh with small screen & i was disappointed! thats was really weird for me! but still D8 is a beast. Xtool nailed it with their tools awesome features & subscription & prices! i bought D8W & it's in the way. 59
Your video was very helpful in identifying questions to understand what a scanner can and can't do. I understand updates are frequent to scanners especially to the Xtool based on comments in other xtool videos, but was surprised in your review of the lack of misfire information(critical forr me) and trouble code status. Subsequent updates could have fixed these issues. In another video, it was noticed that the scale for the xtool graphing of the O2 sensors was 20 volts which didn't give much detail for analysis. It was reported that this was being addressed by xtool. Virwer comments were also helpful.
Thanks for the comment, Yes XTool has addressed several issues with continued updates. There is a follow-up video to this one in which I cover some of these updates. The location of the misfire data has been addressed and the status of the codes have all been fixed since the making of this video. With each update the Xtool looks to keep improving.

Interesting, I had not noticed that, now I will need to go look. I have E-Mail them with a few items I would like to see added. They replied and said that they had them in the next release phase, we shall see.

I have the d7 and if you dont update it within its 30 window it stops working and says must install new updates before using. That might not seem like a big deal but what happens when the free updates stop or you dont have the ability to continually update it. I cant seem to get an answer for this
Great video... quick question has the d8 got engine mileage check against cluster to see if a car had mileage correction done on it.. kind regards
I'll take a look at mine in a bit a see if it is listed when plugged into a one of my 1500's.
It worked on 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 abs bleeding..easy to use.
I keep going back and forth between this one and Foxwell NT809 tool. The 809 kills injectors and coils on each cylinder. I didn't see that on here. Idk if the 809 has a misfire feature tho.
I have a D9 pro and it will turn off injectors, I'm not sure if it turns off coils or not.
And I have the xtool d8 bt.... It has the cylinder Miss fire counter and also it has the topology mapping as well.... The d8 I just bought is compared to the d9 ...
Returning my d8 Bluetooth, would not communicate with some ecu's on Toyota 2006 tundra.
Tire warning system current codes and tool said no codes.
Wouldn't read abs or occupant systems intermittent.
Graphing o2 sensors only shows 20 volt or 12 volt scales.
Kinda hard to read compared to Toyota tech stream.
When trying to graph fuel trims or o2 sensors tool would shut down.
Returning hoping top don pro will be better, going to try launch 431 pro also.
*I keep seeing people making these videos about the Xtool D8 and most just don't have the know how on how to use a scanner beyond reading the codes lol. All the things you say it doesn't do, it does it very well on my vehicles, and I've had the D8 for a year*
Thanks for the comment. I am happy to hear that the D8 has functions to support the vehicles that you worked on. However as stated in the video, for the vehicle used the D8 does not have complete support for. Some features need to be added. I have sent a list of them XTool support and they are in the process of adding them. This is really no different than any other scan tool out there, even the bigger brands like snap on and such all have there strengths and weaknesses with different makes and models.
If you know all about these tools, why are you here? Just to mock folk that are new to it all? Better still, why not make your own video and show us idiots how to use it. I bought the D7, and will admit I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but these tools have not been affordable until very recently, so we're learning a new skill from scratch.
What you guys want from basic and BARELY close to pro level scanner? Laughing $500-600 buck??? When you start operate equipment that cost above $2K then express your opinion in professional manner… here is 99% DIYera who see this type of thing first time in their life!

16:00 Multiple graphs can be displayed on the screen by tapping the "Custom" button after you have made your selection.

I have the xtool d8 bt ..... Mine shows the cylinder mis count.... Also has topology mapping as well.....

Does not connect to ECU on BMW X3 2006, but can read VIN and basic car info.
If you look at your update on your main screen you will see you have 23 updates to do? Why wouldn't you try doing these updates first before you try to show anybody how to do something or what the machine will do?
Thanks for the comment, you are correct that there were some pending updates on the tool, those updates at the time did not apply to the modules in this video, a lot of the updates were updates to modules for other makes and models of vehicles. We will be digging a bit more in the tool in some future videos.
I updated my d8 and failed several graphing of O2 and fuel trims basic stuff.
I just don't think xtool is on par yet.
I had someone from China remote my d8 due to communication errors.
Still not fixed

These Xtools do a LOT of updates! It's not uncommon to turn it off for a week and come back to this many updates and they are often rides you'll never see from around the world.
Where do you find tech support? I called the customer service number and only get a VM.

I may not be knowledgeable enough to ask this question correctly but to determine code status could you clear codes and run the tests again? If the codes clear and don't return wouldn't that tell the status?
In a way it could. But when you clear the codes you loose the history and they wont come back unless the fault that sets the code is active. So for an intermittent codes, you will be waiting for them to set again. There are times in which a code will reset itself and be (stored) or be in the process of setting (pending) and it would be good to have the status and history and to look at a code and know that type of status.

@@solargarage codes set after so many drive cycles or certain conditions. You may erase important information by erasing the code and not seeing what caused it to set. I usually read and email them to myself and erase later to make sure it's not just an old code set by someone playing around and not resetting. If it's a vehicle I haven't seen before, it will get erased before I base my diagnosis in a certain direction.
We need to tell Xtool to add the misfire detection.
Agreed, they have the ability to read the other PID's. It's there they just need to read it. That and the fault code status.
Ummmm it does has cylinder misfire count. Most people just don't know how to read the data, and they want the tool tell them in a code, not knowing that misfire won't set a code until it has a direct cause for it. There can many reasons for a misfire which is ALL IN THE DATA BEFORE A CODE ARISES.
@@mrman8856 Thanks for the comment, I spoke to XTool after this video went up and they were in the process of adding the ability for the scan tool to read the misfire counter from the PCM, perhaps they have completed this add. I will update my scan tool and check again using a Ram to compare the results. I know that for other makes and models the counters are there, just not for a Ram at the time of video. I agree that one can read data prior to a code setting, the misfire counters is one such report that will show this data live prior to a code for multi or single cylinder misfire setting.
@solargarage Huh? 🤔 Lol. You literally just said you can read the cylinder misfire count in live data, but you want it to do what??? You being extra, and you know it. I've had the D8 for a year, and bought it just for a DIY project car 04 Lexus gs300 and it always worked with any functions my car has, actuation, key programming, ecu reset, zero point calibration, transmission reset, injector testing, YOU NAME IT! And they upgrade weekly. Like I said most times it's the user
@@solargarage I wish my Xtools D9 pro would give more info on code parameters and reasons it commonly sets. It would also be nice to get service bulletins like I can get from my cheap Bluedriver code reader
I am evaluating the D8 on my five vehicles from 2022 to 1994; on my 2004 Land Rover Range Rover HSE w/BMW 4.4l M62 TUB 44 engine, it does not read I/M monitor status or data stream for OBDII, ISO 9141-2 6B11 & 6B18. Not very impressive for a $700 scanner? I will contact customer service and see if they can fix this? Very helpful video/commentary.

Xtool remotely accessed my d8 trying to get it to work and kept not being able to read ecu's on 2006 tundra.
When I tried to graph o2 sensors it would shut down and return to home screen.
If I chose single graph feature it displays but in a 20 volt scale.
Kinda strange that doesn't go down to 5 volt scale for different sensors.
I'm returning and looking at launch and top don.
Top don seems very high quality.
I have both tools and both work well and seem to have same software???

@@diagnoseguy Thanks for the comment. I would agree that XTool, needs a bit more work on the diagnostic side of the house, It has worked wonders for my with security items.
I believe it reads I/M only if using the non specific generic OBD2 setting.
does it give live diesel injector readings?
Can't say as I do not have a diesel platform to confirm with.
my D8 shows the status (past, current, pending) on my 2020 toyota camry and 2015 lexus IS250, maybe it only shows for certain cars 🤷♂️
Agreed, Looks that way. I spoke with the support team and they are looking at expanding the status into more models in a future update.
They may have added the misfire function by now
Yes, I have received word a few days ago, that the new update will add in the code status and where they placed the missfire data.
Unfortunatley, since I have this scanner, all these sub 1000 scanners have same major problem and they don't display long term and short term and MAF and few other important PIDs under live data when using scan. only under OBD section they display those. Too bad.
Thanks for the comment. I have e-mailed there support for the items I have found missing thus far and they state that they are working on getting them added, we shall if updates continue to be made. Works great for programming keys currently.
@@solargarage well, that's a problem. we will never know how incomplete this or any other scanner including 1000+ are when it comes to functions and different cars. it's a roll of dice.
And then we have the problem with end of free updates at which time, all these scanner stop supporing coding and programming and few other online functions. it borders on illigal. like buying a car but if we refuse to take it to dealer for service and pay hight price, they take away the AC and few other things.
With this having the ability to “program/clone ecus” do you know if it has the ability to also program bcms? I have not been able to find a definitive answer on this. Thank you.
I think the eight charge is why you’re plugged in to the car will automatically charge
Correct, the D8 will charge while plugged into the vehicle.
I've heard the 1 in the black carry case is a fake version of xtool.

@@WilliamLopez559 because mine is just a cheap tablet with no diag software at all even though it says xtool on it and i was told black case 1s are fakes!!
i bought the d7 xtool. I used the xtool on 2 cars. One is in the garage and has not moved since i hooked up the tool. The other car is in the driveway and will not run. I would not trust the xtool.

Why don’t you clear all the codes and then try it again.? Everybody else that’s evaluating these scanners that’s what they do.

Excellent question on the readiness monitors. I'll need to dig to see if this tool has that, the good news is if not, they seem to be open to feedback to add new features.

Just an observation that you really shouldn’t be doing a video about something you know. Nothing about. This may put prospective buyers off and you should get to know your tool before you make a video about it.
I couldn't agree more. It's painful to watch him fumble navigate through this unit. It does get powered through the OBD2 port, It has a cylinder misfire table and it has the I/M status so you're correct he shouldn't be doing a review video before figuring all these things out or contact product support.
It’s in there you’re just not looking in the right spot. I’ve seen people monitor fuel pressure rail on diesels Cummins, turbo, diesel watch shut off injectors, all kinds of shit with that scan tool. I’m getting ready to buy one. I don’t know which one yet scan tool . And I don’t know if you see or read your comments or not. But I actually seen somebody on the live data and whatever the board you can watch for different things on the graph, the graphing part or whatever.
Agreed, The D8 like most scan tools will support different features for different platforms, as well as they are continuously updating the software and adding new features,
