does anyone know why might the eyedropper tool not work with patterns? i think i have done exactly everything in this tutorial but when i try the eyedropper tool part on a pattern i have downloaded from adobe stock, all it does is colours my shape black (the colour of the graphic) - I have watched so many tutorials about this and i still cannot figure it out

There are a few different ways you could put this into scale - I'd recommend just creating a graphic scale manually. Check out my plan drawing video to see how I did this:
