Excellent list from you both, thanks! To the Moon absolutely broke me (but in a good way)! A middle-aged, bearded man sobbing in his game room as the credits were rolling. And I'm more than fine admitting that, it's such a wonderful game that deserves so much praise and easily one I'll never forget. Next up.... Finding Paradise!
Incredibly happy to see Fata Morgana on this list! It moved me in ways few pieces of media ever do, everything you’ve read about it is true. One of my favorite works of art, period. It’s both eye opening and soul shattering. Same goes for AI: The Sominium Files:)
I found out about your stuff through Emily via the must play RPGs on switch video - I've been absolutely sucked into your guys' channels lately. There's something so genuine and refreshing about the videos you two produce. Thank you and please keep up the great work!
This is such a great video! Love seeing you two work together ^.^ Of games not mentioned, I might say Deadly Premonition and Octopath Traveler both for their unconventional story-telling and expansive world that you are “part of” rather than being the focus of. I particularly love the focus on more down to earth personal stories of Octopath 1, with only little hints of world-ending dark-god slaying in the background.
Wow! FINALLY a list with games you don't see on EVERY SINGLE list. Thanks you two for this video and while i said what i said, i still love Three Houses so much that i'm glad that i see it on yet another list.
So happy to have found your channel. With the coming switch 2, depending if it is backwards compatible or not, makes these lists so much better. I never gave Neir a chance or heard of Omori, and it is coming time to really curate the collection. These games are only going to be harder to find, and even more so if there is no compatibility come switch 2 time. rad list. and 13 sentinels. I would ask if anyone was cutting onions through the story, but nope. Just big dummy tears. the game is a moral dilemma. sofuckingggood. Now, I have to go and throw three houses on again. favorite game on the system and has legit kept me from making more progression on Engage. I wanna play fire emblem, it's practically automatic. More so when reminded. Great video. Thanks!
Always good to see some praise given to Trails. Very few games or stories in general are able to hit me in the feels, so when they do, it's an experience. Only problem I have with Trails, is it makes a lot of other JRPG stories look bad by comparison. Good video guys!
YAY! So excited for this collab! I haven't tried AI or Fata Morgana because I'm a little intimidated by visual novels, but this pushed me a little closer to giving them a shot. Great video, guys!
Great list! A couple of games that made me cry like a baby, without ever expecting it, are the Ori games! Absolutely amazing gameplay, graphics, music and story. Hits you right in the feels
It's great to see Emily here. I remember I started watching her channel some time ago when she had 2-3k subscribers. Great to see you both growing so fast. :) Nier Automata's ending is possibly the best ending a game can have. It's great that its somente it's only doable with games, no ther media can get you that. :')
So many good games on this list! Omori and Fata Morgana in particular standing out to me as Those are the two I have finished so far! Gonna have to move a few of these up The List.
Great video! And a new person to sub too, I really like Orbology's commentary. The first and the last are the m9st significant to me, unfortunately I played neither on the switch, but it's still relevant. Xenoblade was a dream come true when it came out, I played xenogears and xenosaga when I was a Marine and in and out of a war. Trails I played after I got out. I love Xeno's world building and interesting twists and turns. The first xenoblade is still my favorite. After having seen death and misery, even watching friends pass away...Trails somehow managed to make me feel something, and I still can't believe a tear escaped my eye even recently when I beat Azure. Thanks for the video as always
Brother, you can never get enough or talk enough about Trails. I’ve played them all except Zero, Azure, and Reverie. I saw walkthrough videos of Sky 3, Zero, and Azure before playing Cold Steel 3 when it was released. Now that Zero and Azure are out I’m currently playing them. I’m in chapter 4 of Zero and once I finish that one I’m going straight to Azure. After Azure I want to play Reverie but I’m crazy and might play the Cold Steel games again lol. I’ve played them all except 4 two times so I might do it again just to play Cold Steel 4 a second time and then play Reverie. We also have Nayuta coming in about a month. Soooo much TRAILS!!!!
The LoH Crossbell arch games are probably my favorite jrpgs on the switch, they are a must play for any rpg fan. Im typically not very interested in literal visual novels like fata morgana but that is an amazing literal visual novel i eagerly finished. My typical visual novel Ive lived for years are more so classic adventure games/ visual novel hybrids. Like the AI series I consider more just an adventure game like the Sierra adventure games I grew up with in The 90s, but I implore anyone interested to give the house in fata morgana a try, I bought the physical switch copy before it got very expensive, so u may want to just buy a digital copy
@@JustTheGems yeah I'm curious what criteria needs to be met for a differentiation between visual novels and Adventure games. I imagine the visual novel game genre has its sole origin from literal visual novel games like fata morgana, but evolved over time and began to be marketed as visual novel's, even though it expanded into classic adventure game design
An interesting list for sure, some I've played; others have to be played in a certain mood or I will drop them and forget about them. Now talking about games that give you feels... why not trying Stray Gods the Roleplaying Musical. It's a not too long or short RPG that have some moraly questionable issues and of course the feelings you get after having chosen one way or another.
I believe that The House in Fata Morgana is a masterpiece but it's one of the least "interactive" VN : when you play Ace Attorney, Dangarompa or 999, you have some gameplay. Not so much in Fata Morgana where you basically have a few decisions to take through the entire 25 hours journey. But if you don't mind it and are ready to read a visual book, by all means do it, you won't regret it. Everything is perfect, characters, story, music, visuals, ... This game has one of the best "first time experience" you'll have :)
I had over 100 hours of gameplay and a completion with one house in 3 Houses. OCTOPATH TRAVELLER 2 ,ENGAGED, and TEARS OF THE KINGDOM were in the quene. And I’ve given each some time and they feel promising. I made the mistake of fooling around with 3 Houses for a few minutes and it SUCKED me back into its clutches. Those other games may be just as good or better but it’s going to be awhile before I find out. 3 Houses has a hold on me.
Really appreciate 13 Sentinels and the Somnium Files - BOTH of them should be combined because they're both really great. I've always wanted to try the Trails series, though the limited English voice acting - which for me is unfortunately a must - and the sheer amount of them certainly gives me pause. As for the Xenoblade series, it the one - maybe three? - reasons I'd genuinely want a Switch. Because the Xenosaga series is, in my oppinion one of the best and most well-presented RPG narratives of all time.
I'd almost be willing to get a Switch just for these. Maybe for Fire Emblom 3 Houses and Master Dectective Archives too. Unfortunately I have severe low vision, and can't read text very fast. Full - or nearly full voice acting is a must, though these days I have a program on my PC which allows my screen reader to read things like dialog boxes/lore dumps as long as the text is unadorned and has good contrastgh Can do this on PC, and PS4 and PS5 with remote play. Not sure the Switch has the ability to mirror to my PC however.
@@LoneWolfAudio0524Is it possible to use a video capture card to run your Switch into the PC at the same time as your TV? I use the Rybozen 4K, and it's a pretty inexpensive thing for how well it works. Not sure if that's an option for you or not, though.
@@JustTheGems that is a really interesting thought. I remember doing something like that back in the PlayStation two days. It would have worked, then had screen reading software have the ability to read texts like this. I imagine something like that would work nowadays as well.
I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't really like Nier Automata or Transistor. Maybe I'm just dumb, but I didn't really understand the stories when I played them even after multiple playthroughs. I had to look them up afterwards to understand what was going on. I haven't played the other games, but I'd also add Octopath Traveler, Hades, Astral Chain, What Remains of Edith Finch and the Zelda games
You're not dumb at all! If I had a nickel for every time I had to look up a story explanation for a game after I finished, I'd have... Well, I'd have a lot of nickels, let's just say. 😅 And oh dang, I wish I'd thought to include Edith Finch! I LOVED that game so much that I picked up the physical from... I think either Fangamer or iam8bit. Such a brilliant story! If a part 2 of this video happens, that has to be on there for sure.
This was a lot of fun to put together with you, Branden! I'll be curious to hear what everyone else considers as peak fiction on the Switch 😆
Thanks again, Emily, you're the best!
Excellent list from you both, thanks!

I've been meaning to play that one, too! Maybe it'll also get a Switch port...
House in Fata Morgana is one of the best stories ever and rarest of gems I have ever played.
💯💯💯
Been diving back into 3 houses and Hopes recently! Adore them! Tremendous Collab, friends! Bravo! 👌
Thanks Jay!!
Ahh what a beautiful video! This list is so solid 👌 Great work guys! 😄
Thanks Mandy!!
Fantastic video from two of my favorite videogame RUclipsrs!
Great video, a lot of great games to add to my list. Thanks! Now off to watch Emily’s video.
And now Red Dead is on switch and the Metal Gear Solid games are coming, which are peak fiction
The repertoire is growing!
Great video. Glad to see some indie gems like To the Moon getting a shout out. :)
Ah so so so many gooooood games here! Well done you two!!!
Thank you thank you!!
Some great choices here! Fantastic colab!
Thank you, Milla!

Yes! Fata Morgana is just a brilliant work.
And I'm a huge Uchikoshi fan, so AI is a must for me, too!
To the moon, NIER automata, and the house in Fata Morgana are my absolute favorite games and I am so overjoyed to see them on this list!!!
They are next level

Stumpled on the video by chance and i have one word to say.... Ouroboros.
Wow just hearing the story synopsis of what To The Moon is about is enough to get you a little choked up lol i might just get it!
Right???
Really cool topic and really cool combo video. This video helped me discover this channel so super happy. Great work!
Hey, thank you so much!

Yeah, there are a lot of more "off-the-beaten-path" games that have great stories and deserve more attention!

Come for Orbalogy, stay for the beard.
Loving the beard - I mean JRPG content.

YAY! So excited for this collab! I haven't tried AI or Fata Morgana because I'm a little intimidated by visual novels, but this pushed me a little closer to giving them a shot. Great video, guys!
Thank you! Especially with A.I., the “visual novel-ness” of it all is a bit more pared down, so it’s a strong entrypoint for the genre.
Wow - how could you leave off Tales of Berseria...talk about a story that will crush your heart. Oh wait, it wasn't on Switch.
Berseria is GREAT
Awesome video guys!!! I'm ALL about story so this was a wonderful video to see. It's my favourite part about gaming!!!
Mine too! Thanks so much, Paige!

Great video! I have played a lot of these, but also have a lot on my to-play list. So many great games!
Thank you!!
great list guys.
Thank you!!!
Nier Automata is definitely the best game on this list IMO
It’s a phenomenal achievement in gaming for sure!
Detroit: Become Human was one my daughter and I both enjoyed. I also really liked the first Telltale Walking Dead game.
And now I remember this is Switch specific. 😂
You know, I was meaning to play that game, I think it was free on PS Plus one month, so I probably already have it...
@@JustTheGems it was! That’s how I got it. Really good story with lots of branching paths depending on the choices you make.
If we're talking about peak fiction, Paranormasight HAS to be on the list. It's so overlooked and underrated, i can't recommend it highly enough!
I'm definitely interested in checking that one out
So many good games on this list! Omori and Fata Morgana in particular standing out to me as Those are the two I have finished so far! Gonna have to move a few of these up The List.
