0:39 That's my dad. I haven't heard his voice in almost 9 years. He died after a 10+ year struggle with the effects of Gulf War syndrome after a lengthy legal battle with the US government in my childhood to even recognize & support the thousands of lives that were ruined because of Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Comparatively speaking he was one of the "lucky ones" on both sides. He lived to have kids. Thanks for posting the video, genuinely. It's nice, if heartbreaking, to see him.
Whatever your thoughts about the game, this is simply the best super bowl highlight video. It captured the drama of the game, every music cue was perfect. And of course Whitney Houston.
thechels Except for the fact that this file left her singing off, the highlight film was far more exciting than the actual game. I know we'll disagree, but I found this game to be incredibly dull until the Bills' final drive.
You took the words out of my mouth. I have watched this highlight film no less than 100 times in my life from the time I was 10 to present day at 39. Although I am partial because my family moved from New York to Tampa 7 months before this game but I have every music cut from this highlight film on my iTunes playlist for long distance running and you won’t find out a better and more fitting soundtrack and the way the film was produced was top notch.
I’ve always said that Buffalo team was the best to ever lose a Super Bowl. To me it seemed so dominant in every way and appeared flawless. The 2007 Patriots began to show cracks and were exploited by in incredible Giants pass rush. This Buffalo team was incredible, and the Giants beat them with essentially by playing flawlessly. And the most overlooked play? Hostetler holding onto the ball in the end zone as Bruce Smith grabbed the arm that Hostetler was carrying the football. I still don’t know how he didn’t fumble that ball. Second most overlooked play? Everson Walls and that open field tackle on Thurman Thomas in the Bills’ last drive. He would have been gone. What a game. The greatest Super Bowl ever played.
The two iconic plays in this game- Ottis Anderson's 3rd and 1 run with the wind up arm slam and Mark Ingraham's breaking 3 tackles and dragging two defenders for a first down.
ben loesel I will never understand how their gameplan was to let Thomas tear then apart. Kind of takes away from how great Thomas played and I think the defense gets a bit too much credit.
ben loesel I was hoping the bills would win but what I thought was a big turning point was after they went up 12 to 3 on the safety by Bruce Smith they got the ball after the safety and they couldn’t get another score to further increase their lead. That’s a missed opportunity for them too I feel in a game where every opportunity was needed to win.
Been watching these all day on nfl network, they are like little time capsules. The production value def falls off somewhere in early 2000s though. Started focusing too much on wiring the players for sound instead of using the music and narration and setting overall scene for the day.
Yes...first Super Bowl without a turnover. Compare that to Super Bowl V where there were double digit turnovers between the Colts and Cowboys and all but 9 of the 29 points scored came off turnovers.
I really think best Super Bowl comes down to this and 34, which (coincidentally or not) are the two without turnovers. But in both you had contrasting styles, where both teams executed well on both sides of the ball, a fairly close game throughout (the biggest margin here was 9,in 34 it was briefly 16), few penalties, high drama at the end. The tiebreaker for me is that this ending was win or lose, but 34 was only win or tie at the end (barring a 2 point try that they'd never have attempted). That's an awfully wordy way of saying, yes, best super bowl.
This IS the Best Super Bowl I've watched live. How on earth can I come up with THAT conclusion? Well I remember this one growing up as a Niners fan. This is the one where I had no choice but to go to Sunday night service and my, at the time superstitious self, had a bad feeling that they'd lose since I wasn't watching it. I remember them playing the best ever game I've witnessed where neither team scored double figures earlier that season (S.F 7-3 on MNF). I still remember hearing that play on the radio where L.T. stripped Roger Craig and I just knew it was all bad at that point. I would've said that Super Bowl 42 (Giants v Patriots Pt. 1) tops this but, since after the unaccounted Brady fumble vs the Raiders in the 2001-2002 playoffs, I have to put an asterisk ALL NFL playoff games played since. I was suspicious when recalling Super Bowl 40 (Seattle vs Pittsburgh, where we kept hearing about Jerome Bettis "being from Detroit") and I was convinced after predicting the Niners would actually come back and make it a game vs Baltimore when the lights came back on in Super Bowl 47. Therefore, this has my vote as the best Super Bowl I've ever watched live. P.S. Ironic....Tecmo Super Bowl I was BUF (17-1 lost to N.E. of all teams...go figure) vs my friend at the time as NYG (18-0). He got a safety on me early and I had a late drive (major sliding catch by Pete Metzelaaras to set up the FG)....47+/- yd FG by Norwood hit the left upright and it went in. I won 17-16. Best Tecmo Bowl Super Bowl I've ever won. If you actually read this all the way through then YOU deserve a thumbs up.
@@joeyjohnson207 What are you even talking about? It was the undefeated Patriots led by Brady and belichick vs a wild card Giants. Plus it was such a close game (17-14) that came down to a fourth quarter drive with one of the most legendary plays of all time (Helmet catch). Followed by one of the greatest defensive efforts of all time. You're smoking crack if you think that game was boring.

Check out Parcells 6:20 into these highlights. Down by 9 and about to get crushed, he wanted OJ Anderson in there to pound the ball. "That's who I want," he demanded. What leadership in the face of adversity in the biggest game. THAT'S what made Parcells great. There's an even better clip of that moment on NFL films. I won't ever forget it and I won't ever forget those Parcells Giants teams.

jimsbargainstore after you pointed it out, audio doesn’t match what Parcells is mouthing in video clips. I do remember watching an NFL Films clip of overhead shot of same moment in which Meggett was called back to sideline and OJ sent out. Could never find it on RUclips or NFL Films site. This video clip is best I’ve ever found on Internet of that moment. To overrule your Coordinator so decisively at that moment and pound ball w/OJ is the kind of stuff that deserves championships. The 18-1 New England Patriots may have something to say about that...But yes, definitely one of the best super bowls ever played. Easily top 5. The Giants, it seems, usually play in close exciting super bowls.

47 yds?? For a guy that struggled making long kicks, Buffalo had enough time to run 1 more play and get out of bounds, before attempting the kick, at least for a few extra yards.
Yeah, but eight seconds gives them a chance to throw the ball away on a bad snap and still have time for another try. You just can't risk having a completion happen in bounds or a sack.
10 things had to happen for this major upset. Lofton play should have been an easy td pass underthrown, bruce smith safety miracle wasn't a td. Successive drops and missed wide open receivers after safety, 3rd and 13 third qtr play was once in a lifetime, timeout on final drive charged to Bill's when giants called to simotamously. Norwood missed kick. Bill's should have won this game by 17. This was their SB. Giants players agreed
Justin Young woulda coulda shoulda Seahawks should’ve won SB if they give it to beast mode. Falcons should’ve won SB if they were more conservative and Raiders should’ve won in playoffs vs Pats cause Brady fumbled. Don’t mean shit they lost Pats won those SBs. The team that “should’ve won” still has an empty trophy case.
That's it. Can't risk another play unless you went for a TD over the middle away from the Giant defenders bunched up on the sidelines. If the receiver is tackled in bounds, it's game over.
Out of superstition, Otis Anderson did not wash the pants of his uniform for the entire 1990 playoff run. That's why it looks like he just got done running a tough mudder race and its only the beginning of the 1st Quarter.
Best SB ever. 3 champs that year. Last of the bad ass Giants. Redskins & Cowboys beat a bunch of weaklings. After that, the 25 champs turned into the Patriots over time.
First SB I ever watched and it was amazing. I remember the buzz around that Bills epic offense. A week or two earlier it was heartbreaking watching my 49ers lose to nyg and Montana getting injured. Time of possesion and 3rd down conversions is what won this game for the NYG. The bills just ran out of time. If only they could of gotten a little bit closer.
My 12th birthday! We had my party the day before and I got a giants starter jacket. And all my uncle's were teasing me saying I could only wear it 1 day because the bills were gonna kill us!
This is the one game that I really wish the Bills had won just like Vikings NFC Championship game vs Falcons. Both has the same situation, DAMN the kickers.
RUclips must have recently identified it themselves. It's listed in the title description with all the other songs. Here's the link. ruclips.net/video/JuhSZ8yDXjM/видео.html I still don't know who the actual composer is or its title. It translates roughly as "Classical style - Harmony of music".
Anyone know the name of the music NFL Films used for the Bills final drive? It captures the drama and urgency of the Bills desperately getting into fg range perfectly!

8:45-Marv Levy's mantras about "when it's too tough for them" and "where else would you rather be"...he and Bud Grant are the two best coaches never to win a Super Bowl. Having said that, Bills should have gotten closer as Norwood was just 1 of 5 from 40 plus on grass up to that point (ABC broadcast showed that graphic as the Bills closed in) but ran out of time.
This Game spawned the greatest coaching legacy in North American Sports - the West Coast Offense is the work of an architect the Parcells - Belichek is the work of both a master motivator and tactical genius.
Just think, if they had two point conversions then, this game would have been the first and only overtime super bowl game. Either way still the greatest of all time.
One point. I remember this game. How come the Superbowl is not played in late January anymore? Anyone know? And since we lived in Florida at the time My dad had the big game on. I had a T-shirt that was a triple or double X. 100 percent cotton, The T-shirt had both helmets on the front and the roman numerals also the date of the game. That was a close game. But, including me and my parents wanted to see the New York Giants win. The Bills put up a good fight. That kicker was related to Ray Finkle?
During the NFC's infamous 13 game Super Bowl winning streak, this or XXIII was probably the best! This is a textbook example, of how GREAT of a coach Bill Belichick is, even though outside of Foxborough, everyone HATES the man! And Giants fans wish he replaced Parcells, not Ray Handley!
Damn that was our game...have not watched that in almost 30 years........we got out coached. If I remember correctly, the bills were out partying hard the night before.....anyone remember Thurman losing his helmet before the game started?
“In a game billed as Buffalo finesse vs New York power, it was Thurman Thomas, who took the Giants head on, delivering a CRUSHING blow” man NFL films was amazing back in the day
Well IMO, NFL films best was from the 1970’s. Partly from the music, partly from the dramatic delivery of John Facenda. That was a good line you mentioned from this one but the music by 1990 just wasn’t as good as the 70’s music. Now in 2025, it’s even worse & just less imaginative or dramatic
RUclips must have recently identified it themselves. It's listed in the title description with all the other music. Here's the link. ruclips.net/video/JuhSZ8yDXjM/видео.html I still don't know who the actual composer is or its title. It translates roughly as "Classical style - Harmony of music".
They cut out about 3 minutes of this video. The original version had more interviews with the troops and crowd and players reaction to Whitney Houston singing the national anthem
Thurman Thomas' TD should have been called back. Timely block? Andre Reed clipped Everson Walls in front of the whole universe. Even though we won I still hate that play.
The shit that players and teams got away with back then compared to now was through the roof --and I'm not talking about rules changes. That block wouldn't have been called at least half the time. Probably a lot more. More par for the course back then than anything.
Here's my feelings on this! The 1990 season, The Bills were suspect to the running game! All season long. Earlier that year the Oilers came at the bills with a similar game plan and beat the bills to bring them to 9-2! So i think to put Belecheck in the hof is BS! Just like the Giants beat the Patriots in SB 42, The Giants came at the Pats with the 85 Bears 46 Defense. And domanted the pats with it, which the score wasn't as close as the game was.
The Buffalo Bills unfortunately played 4 of what are considered some of the Greatest NFL Teams Ever. The 90' Giants took out the 49ERS who were by most experts to 3-PEAT that year. The 91' Redskins were picked to win before the season even began. The 92' and 93' Cowboys were the best team in the NFL those two years the Bills faced them. They ended up winning 3 Superbowls in 4 Years, plus they had arguably the Best Offensive Line in NFL History. Buffalo actually won more games than any NFL Franchise in the 1990's but without a Superbowl win, they're dismissed by most as a Fluke who played in what was considered a Weak AFC Conference in the 90's. I really wanted them to win at least 1 of those games SMH!
I hate the Patriots, but Belichick and his game plan stopped the Bills enough for the Giants offense to do enough to win that game. Belichick did again with the Rams in 2002 and then did tonight against the Rams again. That 6th win for Belichick was all because of his game plan and the defense playing up to that game plan. I hate to say this but Belihcick is better than Bill Walsh and better than Vince Lombardi.
Take Thurman Thomas out of the picture, and if the Giants had been healthy, and this game would have been a rout. But I'll take it! Best night of my life.

Greatest football game ever played.
The week before against the 49ers is at #1 for me. 1990 Giants, greatest in team history and one of the greatest single season teams of all time.

How Hostetler didn't fumble that football I'll never know.
Best SB highlight soundtrack ever! Speak on it!
My all time favorite Super Bowl highlight film. It’s the music and the narrating. They mesh in the radio announcers perfectly as well.
I feel bad for Norwood, Kelley, and Bruce Smith but happy for the Giants, especially Ottis Anderson and Jeff H. What a great game!
The two iconic plays in this game- Ottis Anderson's 3rd and 1 run with the wind up arm slam and Mark Ingraham's breaking 3 tackles and dragging two defenders for a first down.
Norwood's miss?
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot I'd argue the safety was the biggest play, if Hostetter fumbles it, game over giants
Agreed! Had Hostetler fumbled and the Bills scored a TD on that play, Norwood would have never needed to make that field goal.
That 3rd down conversion by Ingram was something special.
Fun fact; Bill Belichicks defensive game plan for the NY Giants in this game resides in the NFL Hall of Fame.
It's why I predicted the Patriots to beat the Rams in Super Bowl 36. Literally the same set up.

RUclips must have recently identified it themselves. It's listed in the title description with all the other songs. Here's the link.

I still don't know who the actual composer is or its title. It translates roughly as "Classical style - Harmony of music".
Great Music
Anyone know the name of the music NFL Films used for the Bills final drive? It captures the drama and urgency of the Bills desperately getting into fg range perfectly!

@@TheAlfrulz that's it! Thanks so much!
What is the song that starts at 4:00
Today's the 30th anniversary of Super Bowl 25.
Marv Levy (Buffalo Head Coach) is still alive. And this was 30 years ago. (Comment made 2020)
The radio calls are great throughout especially Giants play by play man Jim Gordon.
Van Miller's were so much better.
@@compuserveuser2779 they were both great
The GREATEST DEFENCE EVER!!! Hands down.".......
The 1985 Bears were better.
@@seandechant6575 Giants defense locked down top rated offenses in the reg and post season in 1990.
What a great Super Bowl this one turned out to be!!!!🏈🏈🏈🏈
One point. I remember this game. How come the Superbowl is not played in late January anymore? Anyone know? And since we lived in Florida at the time
My dad had the big game on.
Best super bowl ever and giants 07 win
20:46 Everson Walls finally can live down giving up The Catch!
This game was America's game
I just think ppl thinking Josh Allen is better means you do not understand the game has evolved... 18:45
Still one my favorite SB aside SB XVIII in ‘83-‘84

That drive - legendary.
My first Superbowl...the best one
Honestly, the greatest Super Bowl ever played.
greatness
anybody have the soundtrack listing? such great music.
Damn that was our game...have not watched that in almost 30 years........we got out coached. If I remember correctly, the bills were out partying hard the night before.....anyone remember Thurman losing his helmet before the game started?
Thurman lost his helmet in the next SB vs the Redskins.
What is the theme song at the Giants seconds TD drive please and thank you
Matt Bahr clutched it
Yes he did
Great game , and Thurman should of been MVP. This game made me understand about football , a good running game and defense wins football games
How did otis andersons pants stay on?
Giants t.o.p. was 41 minutes to buffalos 19! That's were the game was won ! Basically 3 quarters to 1 advantage.
Who on earth would want Mark Kelso as their safety?
how did Mark Ingram convert that third down?
@#$&(* Mark Ingram!
bearcattony00 I'm sure the players on that Bills team are still wondering how he did that
The will to win at any cost
Sheer determination.
That was the best I've ever seen... and I've watched these kinds of videos for a long time!
Now in 2025, it’s even worse & just less imaginative or dramatic
i cried then and 29 years later I'll drip again
Who is the narrator perfect voice for the commentary of this good game.
Jeff Kaye
Greatest NFL game ever.
Anyone know the name of the song that plays at the very beginning? With the trumpets?
"Arlington Fanfare"

American football can be cool at times.
That ending was dramatic
There was another highlight done by NFL Films of this game with some GREAT music. But RUclips doesn't have it!
7:13...Gold Rush by John Fox (not the coach). One of my favorite tracks of recent NFL Films vintage
Do you know the other track names? (4:09? Early first quarter?)
Robert Miller its called Impact by Alan Hawkshaw. Check Dave Volsky's channel.
They cut out about 3 minutes of this video. The original version had more interviews with the troops and crowd and players reaction to Whitney Houston singing the national anthem

Can’t believe it’s been 30 years

Man I really feel sorry for Scott Norwood. I mean how can you expect him to make it with all of that pressure?!
Agreed!!!!
What is the name of the song at 12:33?
Thurman Thomas' TD should have been called back. Timely block? Andre Reed clipped Everson Walls in front of the whole universe. Even though we won I still hate that play.
The shit that players and teams got away with back then compared to now was through the roof --and I'm not talking about rules changes. That block wouldn't have been called at least half the time. Probably a lot more. More par for the course back then than anything.
No where near a penalty in 90. Bill's should have trucked the giants
I was waiting to see Thurman Thomas to fumble the ball as usual!
Nowadays buffalo would have gone for 2 but it was not implemented yet until 4 years later
how can the Buffalo Bills lose four Super bowls in a row
NFC East was just too strong. This was their best shot. The '91 'Skins team was Gibbs' best and the Cowboys had a full on dynasty in the 1990s.
Its simple..boy.i.love.loosing.superboels.bills lol
NFC east owns the AFC east ask the Patriots too 🍺😉😉
The Vikings had it worse.
Only highest points they had scored was 14 against the Raiders.
The New York Bills vs The New Jersey Giants
I wish I had this music on my Google play.
Anyone know the name of the track played at 4:03?
Impact by Alan Hawkshaw
I hate the Patriots, but Belichick and his game plan stopped the Bills enough for the Giants offense to do enough to win that game. Belichick did again with the Rams in 2002 and then did tonight against the Rams again. That 6th win for Belichick was all because of his game plan and the defense playing up to that game plan. I hate to say this but Belihcick is better than Bill Walsh and better than Vince Lombardi.
Jeff Clutchletler!
Who was better? Jeff Clutchletler or Phil Simms?
Irk Scherda Simms
Take Thurman Thomas out of the picture, and if the Giants had been healthy, and this game would have been a rout. But I'll take it! Best night of my life.
