@@conni70 Not really, he had about 2 good seasons towards the end of his career... 82 and 83. You could make an argument that 81 and 84 was decent seasons but other than those 4 years he was stinking up the joint.
Washington won their last 2 superbowls against Denver and Buffalo the old fashioned way. With their offensive and defensive line dominating both sides of the line of scrimmage.
One of the most underrated teams ever. The 91 Redskins were like the 84 49ers... not very flashy but they won and they won games in a very professional; understated; and overwhelming way.
Yeah they real good in the 1991 season. There regular season record was 15-1 or 14-2.I think 15-1.I believe that the 1991 Tedskins would beat the 1989 49ers for real. This Redskins was a monster football team.
Jim Kelly had 2 garbage time TDs in this SB when the score was 37-10. Oddly enough, these 2 TDs were the only 2 TDs in his 4 Super Bowl appearances. He ended his Super Bowl career with 2 TDs and 7 INTs. Regardless, my appreciation and respect for Jim Kelly and his personal life including overcoming cancer time and again is off-the-chart. He is a great man.
He wasn’t just a great man, he was a great player! I’m a skins fan and I hate the trashing that people do to him. He really was one of the greats and was seriously carrying the Bills in 4 Super Bowl appearances. Just goes to show that better teams always win and when you have The Hogs, The Posse, and the most intricate coach ever one man cannot stand up to them.
@@andrewkravmaga1833 Agreed. I definitely was rooting for the Redskins. My teams were Denver and Miami. So, I hated Kelly. From 1990-95, he went 4-0 in the playoffs versus Denver and Miami. But my hatred for Kelly tied to a profound respect for his abilities. Add in what he did in the USFL, and he looks even better historically.
I’ll always luv this time in the NFL. Goodness those Def’s made people earn it. I’ve never seen that exchange between Kelly and Stokes (18:15) What a great NFL moment, even better watching and seeing it in the context of how the game was going and where it was at that point.
Even though I'm a die hard giants fan I must say that this period of football from the early 90's when the nfc east dominated the bills in the super bowl was great to see although the Eagles never one a super bowl it was still a great period in the division's rich history
Strange though. The Bills beat the Giants and Eagles in the 1990 season. They beat the 49er's in the first ever no punt game and defeated a tough Saints team in the 1992 season. Then, they beat the Cowboys,Redskins,Giants and Eagles,3 of those tough defensive games,in the 1993 season. In total they went 14-2 against the NFC during that 4 year period. I think after losing Super Bowl XXV in such heartbreaking fashion made them play so tight and put so much pressure on themselves that they didn't play well in the next 2 Super Bowls (individually certain Bills put up good numbers,Reed in SB XXVII had 8 catches for 152 yards but didn't play well as a team). Super Bowl XXVIII,they had a 13-6 lead at half-time and were only down by 7 going into the 4th qtr before a 4th down td run put the game away. Thurman doesn't fumble on the 3rd play of the 2nd half of that game, the Bills continue to wear down the Dallas defense and score more points and they win that Super Bowl.
Everything came together for Washington in 1991. The team was stacked at every position. One of the best teams in NFL history. Dominant. Historically, Washington has one of the best offensive line core in NFL history with the Hogs. And they beat the great Elway and Jim Kelly in two superbowls with Doug Williams and Mark Rypien as their QB's. Not exactly household names.
I'm hardly a Redskins fan, but I'd venture to say they're one of the NFL's elite franchises, thus, in the same class as the team's you mentioned..or at least relatively close..
I was 10 years old watching this game. I was home alone watching this game. My mom was out partying and my brother was with friends watching the game. This was an awesome experience only made better watching the In Living Color half time special on fox. It didn't hurt that I was off that Monday from school.
When the super bowl belonged to the fans , not cooperate donors and celebrity who could care less about whose playing , but being there helped their brand
The In Living Color Super Bowl!!! This was the last season the NFL used lame halftime shows. The next year in Pasadena (originally scheduled for Phoenix), they brought out Michael Jackson, and the next year in Atlanta it was an array of country superstars.
Yeah, I was 14 that year, but followed everyone in the league religiously by that time, and I clearly remember Washington being the team to beat all year.
Throwing a hissy fit (and your helmet) in the Super Bowl and drawing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty is possibly the stupidest way to get flagged in the big game.
Bills had big problems on their defense. Buffalo ranked just 27th (out of 28 teams) in yards allowed, 19th in points allowed, and recorded only 31 sacks. A reason for this was that defensive linemen Bruce Smith and Jeff Wright had missed most of the season with injuries. One of the few bright spots on the Bills' defense was Pro Bowl linebacker Cornelius Bennett, who recorded 78 tackles, 9 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries. Another Pro Bowl linebacker, Darryl Talley, led the team with 90 tackles and 5 interceptions, while also recovering 2 fumbles and forcing 4. Cornerback Nate Odomes was the leader of the secondary with 5 interceptions, which he returned for 120 yards and a touchdown, along with 66 tackles and a fumble recovery. During the week leading to Super Bowl XXVI, it seemed most of the pressure was on the Bills. The AFC Championship Game appeared to be the best defensive effort by Buffalo all season, as they held the Broncos to only a touchdown, while also limiting Elway to just 11 of 21 completions for 121 yards and no touchdowns, with one interception. But the Bills' high-powered offense was completely shut down, limited to just a single field goal for the entire game. In addition, the Bills could have easily been eliminated by the Broncos, had Treadwell not missed three field goal attempts, two of which hit the uprights. The performance also gave an opportunity for Gibbs and the Redskins' coaches to devise a strong game plan to exploit their Super Bowl opponent's weaknesses. "Denver was successful being aggressive. That may have aided us a little bit in our thinking," said Redskins defensive coordinator Richie Petitibon. "Looking at them before they had played Denver, we kind of thought you had to put pressure on this guy (Jim Kelly). We attacked the line of scrimmage more than usual. We wanted to blitz to stop the run early in the game. It's sometimes tough to pick up blitzes against the running game.
If Tony Boselli is in the hall of fame Jim Lachey needs to be in. He dominated a in their prime LT AND Bruce Smith. He gave up one sack over a three year period. He was the most gifted hog ever. Joe Jacoby needs to be in as well.
This is one of those games where the score does not indicate how much of a mismatch it was. Buffalo was down 24-0 at one point & it was 37-10 Skins in the 4th before Buffalo scored 2 garbage time Touchdowns late in the game to make it look closer than it was.
Yes,the Redskins dominated the play physically but,you say the Bills scored "garbage time" tds. The Bills recovered an onside kick after the first td and failed to recover a second onside kick after the second td. The Bills recover the second onside kick and score another td,it makes the score 37-34. Would you call those "garbage time" tds or is it a comeback by the Bills? Honest question. When do "garbage time" scores become a comeback?
Jim Kelly had his only 2 TD passes in his 4 Super Bowl appearances. And frankly those 2 TDs meant nothing to helping the team win since the game was long decided.
Did you know Marv Levy & Ted Marchibroda were assistants under George Allen in Super Bowl VII, & Bruce Smith & Andre Reed finished their Hall Of Fame careers as Redskins?
Hits on a defenseless receiver, roughing the quarterback and helmet-to-helmet contact. All over the place. The game does not look the same. For better or worse I suppose.
L E definitely for worse. The game is boring as shit now. It’s hard to watch it seeing how much more exciting it was back then. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this sport is too safe now. The money they make should justify the risk of health. But as the world gets softer, people think hard hits are unjustified. When really, they’re gonna be making more and playing a less exciting game and not really give a fuck. I want more for my money and today’s game doesn’t interest me enough to actually spend any amount for it.
@@andrewkravmaga1833 I agree the game is much tamer today and not as good as the games of the 90 but I think that CTE is real. I find them partly responsible for all the domestic incidents off field incidents that man of these players seem to have more so than any other sport

@Steven Stocker - The Bills remain, to this day, the only team to go to four straight Super Bowls. Heck, even going to three in a row is a rarity - what, the 1971-73 Dolphins and 2016-18 Patriots are the only others, aren’t they?
@Steven Stocker right, how many people can say that their team ruled their division for four straight years? That’s pretty badass. Marve Levy was definitely one of the great coaches, but just like poor Bud Grant, could never win the big show. I believe that Grant also lost 4 SBs, but not in a row. He did have the Vikings dominating their division for many years too.
As a redskins fan I had no doubt back in 1992. We would win and crush them. I knew buffalo was no match for us. The afc was extremely weak in the 90s. Buffalo kept getting their by default due to the weak conference only to get destroyed by the better team. They were kind of like the patriots minus the cheating as far as constantly getting their while playing in a horrible conference. As a matter fact in the afc championship game between the bills and broncos I was smiling and laughing the whole time. I knew that if Denver were to beat buffalo which they almost did. Then Denver would just get clobbered by us again like they did in 88. Maybe even worse. Considering this team was better then the 88 team. On the other hand buffalo like I said before I knew if they made it we could beat them like I said before buffalo played in a weak conference. They should have just handed the trophy to the redskins before the super bowl.
No doubt they were great but greatest of all time? I can probably name at least 10 teams that were better without even naming a nfc team. They were dominant this year and deserved to win it all.
John Falcon What stats exactly say this redskins team is the greatest of all time? This team is good but I don't even think these are the best redskins. John Riggins, Joe Theismann, the hogs? Those older Redskins were better so where ever you got those "stats" from that say this is the greatest team of all time, I would strongly suggest you get your info elsewhere.
Side line Bills player coach #46 Leonard Smith tried to pump up Bills players, he knew this would be his last NFL game ever. His last chance for a ring.
This Buffalo team was actually thought of for much of that 91 season as being as good as Washington. But Denver provided the defensive blueprint by exposing them in the AFC title game two weeks prior and the Bills failed to make any adjustments. Their vaunted K-Gun offense couldn't do a thing for 2 straight games after being a juggernaut all season.
Buffalo played a weak schedule in 1991. Also in 1990 during that first superbowl year, they were just 4-3 against teams with winning records, there offense wasn’t elite it was ranked 7th in total yards. They played in an extremely weak afc at the time, they weren’t a Super Bowl caliber team, there’s no shame in losing games you weren’t supposed to win anyway.
@@hardcoresportstalk.8166 If Buffalo played a weak schedule in 1991, consider the team that almost made it to this game- Denver- played a FIFTH place schedule worse dodging a competitive NFC West. Their only NFC games were the Cardinals and the Vikings. Avoiding the 49ers/Saints/Falcons. At least Buffalo actually played a first place schedule. Imagine if a FIFTH place schedule team made the SB if Treadwell makes his FG's in the AFC-CG.
What was it the Buffalo coach said to the press: "Lachey was a ballerina" "Jacoby was a slobbering Neanderthal" and on. And Bugel put that up on the bulletin board.
The Bills deserve credit for reaching four Super Bowls, but the AFC was really pathetic in their days, and I mean bad. Let’s look at their closest Competitors. The Dolphins were all Marino. The Oilers were all Moon. The Broncos were beginning to fall off after the 80’s with Elway, The Steelers and Chiefs had no offense. The Bengals and Browns were beginning to suck. Compared to the NFC, which was STACKED in those days with some of the best players ever. The Redskins were just another excellent team in a jam-packed conference. Parcells’ Giants, Walsh/Seifert 49ers, the Cowboys were emerging with the Triplets, and even the lesser teams were better than the AFC. Dome Patrol Saints, Buddy Ryan Eagles, the Bears, the Vikings, the Rams, even the freaking Lions were a contender with Barry Sanders. They actually made the NFC championship against the Redskins that year. The NFC East was so damn good, a team from the division won the Super Bowl four years straight. The NFC was just much too strong for the Bills, who happened to be the best of a very mediocre conference.
Please the bills were never a Super Bowl caliber team. I’m going to break it all down for you. Let’s start off with 1991. The Bills entered as 6 1/2-point favs against New York, the only one of the Super Bowls, in fact, in which they were favored, in part, because the Giants were missing starting quarterback Phil Simms; in part, because Buffalo's no-huddle offense, which led the NFL in scoring, was deemed unstoppable after racking up 44 and 51 points in two AFC playoff victories. However, there were cracks in the machine. The Bills had gone just 4-3 against teams with a winning record (including a 17-13 win over the Giants in Week 15). The offense was not unstoppable -- it was actually just seventh in the NFL in total yards. And, the AFC was weaker than the NFC -- it had lost the six previous Super Bowls by an average margin of 26 points. Jeff Hostetler Giants backup QB Jeff Hostetler performed beautifully against the Bills. Like the Bills, the Giants had gone 13-3; they had allowed the fewest points in the NFL; and they also had two impressive playoff wins -- 31-3 over Chicago and 15-13 over 14-2 San Francisco. Bill Parcells wanted to keep the ball away from Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas and company and he executed the game plan to perfection, as the Giants kept the ball for a Super Bowl-record 40 minutes, 33 seconds. Backup up QB Jeff Hostetler played well -- he didn't throw an interception in three playoff games -- and the Giants didn't commit a turnover. Still, the Bills had a chance at victory with Norwood's 47-yard field goal attempt -- no gimme, by the way. Let’s go to 1992 vs the redskins, The Bills faced one of the most underrated NFL teams of all time in the 1991 Washington Redskins. While Buffalo racked up an impressive 458 points, that was only second in the NFL to Washington's 485. And while the Bills' leaky defense ranked just 19th in points allowed, the Redskins allowed the second-fewest points. Plus, Buffalo went 13-3 against a weak schedule -- it played only four teams with a winning record all season -- while Washington went 14-2 against a schedule that featured 10 teams that finished .500 or better. Washington's two losses were by a combined five points. Eddie Epstein, in "Dominance: The Best Seasons of Pro Football's Greatest Teams," ranks the '91 'Skins as the second-greatest team of all time. So, in retrospect it's surprising the Redskins were only 7-point favorites heading into the game. In the end, despite Bills' All-Pro defensive end Bruce Smith saying before the game that the Bills would show the Redskins they had a good defense, Washington was simply too powerful. Rypien threw for nearly 300 yards and the Redskins had over 400 yards of total offense. Kelly was just 28 for 58 with four interceptions. And the best team won the game. 1993 vs Dallas. Dallas had won a franchise record 13 games, and defeated Philadelphia 34-10 and a 14-2 San Francisco squad 30-20 to reach the Super Bowl. The Bills, meanwhile, were just 11-5 and lucky to even be in the Super Bowl after rallying from a 35-3 deficit to beat Houston in the first round of the playoffs. The Bills once again featured a high-powered attack -- third in the NFL in points. But the Cowboys were second in points and had a defense to match (first in the league with the fewest yards allowed). The Cowboys were 6 1/2-point favorites; the spread got smaller as the game approached. The smart gamblers remember, the NFC had won eight straight Super Bowls at this point, Buffalo never got off the ground as they were crushed 52-17. 1994 against Dallas was the same result and they were even worse then previous years. Bottom line. The bills were not a Super Bowl caliber team the afc was a joke in the 90s.
The Bills were the better roster in 1990. They messed up a chance to bury NY just like the Rams screwed up handling the Pats in 2001. I pulled for the Giants and the Pats in both instances because I liked Parcells/Belichick.
The NFC was basically the Cowboys and 49ers in those days. The Bills made four straight Super Bowls between 1990-93. During those years, the Redskins were a one hit wonder. The Rams sucked after 1989, so I don't know how you include them in the elite of the NFC. The Lions choked in the playoffs every year. The Bears had two good seasons in the early 90's, then fell off a cliff. The Vikings didn't win a playoff game between 1988-1997. The Saints never won a playoff game under Jim Mora. The Eagles had an awesome defense but won one playoff game under Randall Cunningham. Hell, Rich Kotite was their coach when they actually won it. The NFC wasn't nearly as strong as people make it out to be when it comes to the entirety of the conference, especially in the early 90's.
@@joeyjohnson207That's Bullshit the Bills were better than the Giants. They gave that game way. After 91 the Redskins have been a garbage team. The 49ers and the cowboys basically won 70 percent of the sueprbowls. The Giants pretty much disappeared after 91 and wouldn't make be relevant unt the late 90s. Let's not make this out to be like the NFC were world beaters. You had two dominant teams the Cowboys and the 49ers that's it between the 2 they won 7 superbowls between the late 80s and mid 90s.
I could never figure out how Rypien had this one amazing season and yet somehow the rest of his career was pedestrian and forgettable. He seemed tabbed to become one of the greats after his 1991 season. But he practically disappeared out of the league soon after.
+Luke Enno He was: 20-13 as a part-time starter from 88-90. 17-2 in 1991. 15-20 from 1992-95 as a part-time starter and a bench warmer between 1996-01 with 0-0 record.
Bill Belicheck ( NYG DC at the time) in SB 25 became imfamous for his gameplan that allowed Thurman Thomas to go off for the sake of limiting Buffalo's passing game. Richie Pettibon in SB 26 said fuk that, send everyone!!! We'll stop the pass AND the run..
once they lost the 1st one to the Giants. the Super Bowl just bacame to Big of a stage fot those Bills teams. the last 3 were over before they began..from a mind set stand point. and the Bills are my favorite team.
I can't remember any AFC team winning a Superbowl during this era! Between the Bills & Denver sh*tting the bed every year, the divide between NFC & AFC teams is like comparing a Cadillac to an '84 Dodge dart lol 🤣
The Bills lost 4 straight Super Bowls in 4 different ways... Lost a tough nail biter by a missed FG, then they made a bunch of mental errors and beat themselves (no disrespect to the Skin, but that should’ve been one the best SB’s ever), then Dallas straight blew them up, then they just ran out of gas in every possible way after basically playing 5 seasons in 4 years
SB XXVII was interesting. Buffalo turned it over NINE times. Yet in the 4th quarter, Dallas only led 31-17 and the Bills had the ball a couple of times with a chance to drive for a score to narrow the deficit to 10 or 7. Buffalo really blew up in the 4th with the turnovers and Dallas scored 21 in short order and should have had 28 but for Lett's cockiness at the goal line.
The Bills had pretty much went up against mastermind coaches in their Superbowls. I just feel as if Levy curled up in a corner and cowered down on the sidelines. The Washington coaches just simply knew what type of plays the Bills would perform beforehand and were ready for it. I still think the Bills were well capable of winning this game they just completely their composure and rallied to late in the game. Now the Washington fans gonna say Gibbs let up in the end lol.
Phillip Phillips the Bills had the misfortune of playing against those physical NFC east teams in those Super Bowls. Their opponents didn’t try to finesse them, because most teams that tried that got beat, they just mauled them at the point of attack and eventually the Bills wilted under that relentless pressure. That’s how you do against finesse teams, you play them physically and wear them down and hit em in the mouth and break their will. Eventually they’ll start turning the ball over and give up.
Gibbs did let up in the end! Pulled the starters and the Bills completed an onside kick which led to one of the touchdowns. It was 37-10 in the 4th, that’s complete domination. Bills didn’t have any chance
Justin Cosing So Gibbs let up,even after that td made it 37-10? Then the Bills recover an onside kick and score td to make it 37-24. The Bills failed to recover a second onside kick after that score. The Bills recover that onside kick and score another td,it makes it 37-34. Would you have said Gibbs is just "letting up" or is it a comeback by the Bills?
Buffalo was not a Super Bowl caliber team. 1990. They only went 4-3 against teams with winning records. The offense wasn’t unstoppable like people claim. They were only ranked 7th. Superbowl 25 was a close game in part because starting qb Phil Simms did not play for the giants he was out with injury. 1992. They played a weak schedule. And barely beat Denver in the afc championship game in part because the kicker missed 3 field goals. They faced the 14-2 redskins and got pounded like they should have, reypin was better then hostetler and he wasn’t a game manager they got stomped by the better team. 1993. They only finished 11-5 and were lucky to even be in the superbowl thanks in part to Houston completely collapsing, they met the 13-3 cowboys, and of course got steamrolled they didn’t even deserve to be on the same field as dallas. Dallas dominated all year, Buffalo was just a lucky wildcard team so it wasn’t that much of a shock that they lost 52-17. And became a national joke. 1994. To buffalos credit they fought off age and injures to get to their 4th, this team was the weakest ever. They led 13-6 at halftime in part because of aikman throwing an interception and dallas getting off to an unusually slow start. But once again reality caught up with them in the 2nd half and once again the better team won. From stories I’ve heard kelly would constantly blame his teammates and throw them under the bus, not realizing that he was awful in every superbowl he played in, but that’s okay there’s no shame in losing when you werent supposed to win Anyway.
Monte Coleman saying who do we play tomorrow nobody this is it. Actually Monte even if u had another game u still wouldnt be playing tomorrow u would be playing next week..
Mark Rypien - a classic ordinary, overachieving quarterback whose accomplishments were made possible by the stellar talent surrounding him. After this year he pretty much disappeared, never to be heard from again.
This redskins team was uncanny with big plays I saw the NFL America's game 91 redskins and mark said they had like 47 plays that year over 40 yards so it's not a surprise that this team kind of fell off defenses wasn't going to give up those big plays to them. As for Mark rypien he was OK had some sold years in 89, 90 but in 91 it all came together for him.
Credit Gibbs, Gibbs had to rearrange the game plan around one Rypien Strength and cover up his many weaknesses. Rypien had a deadly accurate deep ball and a strong character and with a coach like Gibbs its all you need to be an NFL and SB MVP.
Bills made 4 Super Bowls in a row ( although they lost them all ) nobody would do that again and nobody ever will now in the days of free agency and the salary cap
Did you know that Cornelius Bennett and Nate Odomes lost four Super Bowls with buffalo and lost one with Atlanta...don beebe won a Super Bowl with Green Bay and Mike Lodish went on to win two super bowls with Denver. Gotta be in the right place at the right time...look at J.J. Stokes, he won one with New England and he didn’t even play in the game
as we get to host the Super Bowl (from Minnesota) Nice to look back at the first. As long as Patriots don't win it again or a blowout 42-17 or something. I love first Time in 26 Years! Welcome to SUPER BOWL 52! I guarantee the Bills won't lose again LOL!
nope. It was Gibb's last year before he (sadly) decided to retire. During his tenure this happened: In 12 years, the Gibbs-led Redskins compiled a 124-60-0 regular-season record and a 16-5 record in 21 post-season games. His combined .683 winning percentage is surpassed only by Vince Lombardi (.740) and John Madden (.731). Gibbs is the only coach to have won three Super Bowls with three different quarterbacks, Joe Theismann (XVII), Doug Williams (XXII) and Mark Rypien (XXVI). Under Gibbs, Washington won 10 or more games eight times and had only one losing season (7-9 in 1988). So it was the last ass-kicking season of an ass kicking dynasty. Like the 69ers in the 80's too. in that decade they went to 7 super bowls combined. skins lost one then won this one in 1991
@@coppulor6500 I didn't say Gibbs was a one year wonder, I said the 1991 Redskins were. The Skins hadn't won the SB since 1987 and it wasn't the same team per se. No one saw the 10-6 1990 Redskins turning into the 1991 14-2 team and once 1992 arrived they were nowhere near as good, going 9-7. That's what I meant by 1 year wonder. They didn't repeat but looked like a team that could have.
The Bills just couldn't stop the blitz. The Bills defense and offense got burned on both sides. The offense couldn't pick it up and Washington happily scored on the turnovers. It didn't work on the defensive side.
The 95 49ers lost to the Packers in the playoffs. The 94 49ers won the SB but that team wasn't nearly as good as either the 84 or 89 49ers. Both of those teams slayed every opponent in the playoffs and had better regular-season records to boot.
As of the early 2000's before this painful last 20 years hit, the Miami Dolphins were the most successful team(winning percentage) of any professional team in the world. Bring back the original logo & the uniforms of the late 90's or early 2000's(shiny aqua pants)
So Bruce Smith, Cornelius Bennett, Daryl Talley and Shane Conlan, Nate Odomes, and Henry Jones, all Pro Bowlers and Smith an all-time great, was 'no defense'? Sorry, but you don't even come close to multiple SB appearances back then with 'no defense'.
The only good defense they had was that first year. Second year. , their defense ranked second to last in the league in total yards allowed. Third year. They ranked in the 20s In total defense. Fourth year. Buffalo's defense was the team's weakness, ranking 28th (then-last) in the league, giving up 5,810 total yards.

Even though I'm a die hard giants fan I must say that this period of football from the early 90's when the nfc east dominated the bills in the super bowl was great to see although the Eagles never one a super bowl it was still a great period in the division's rich history
mrb8283 #HAILToThat
mrb8283 - Redskins fan here...couldn't agree more. Hey- anyone but the Eagles!!
Well, the Eagles have joined the club.
That is funny that the Nfc east passed the Bills around like a $50 hooker for 4 straight years lol
Agreed. Even though many don't because the Skins are not the 49ers, Giants, Bears, or Cowboys.
I'm hardly a Redskins fan, but I'd venture to say they're one of the NFL's elite franchises, thus, in the same class as the team's you mentioned..or at least relatively close..
Paul Page play Brady's patriots and they'd get their asses kicked
That 1991 Redskins team would eat Tom Brady for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not a chance the Patriots could play with that team. Not even close.
Paul Page Joe Gibbs coached the Redskins to three championships in ten seasons...with three different starting quarterbacks. How remarkable is that?

Especially since the rules were so much more relaxed

My favorite rivalry in sports died in 2020. Cowboys - Redskins. Cowboys - Commies isn't going to get it done.

This is one of those games where the score does not indicate how much of a mismatch it was. Buffalo was down 24-0 at one point & it was 37-10 Skins in the 4th before Buffalo scored 2 garbage time Touchdowns late in the game to make it look closer than it was.
Rusty Kuntz Yup....

Stealthbomb Smith
Huh?
Jim Kelly had his only 2 TD passes in his 4 Super Bowl appearances. And frankly those 2 TDs meant nothing to helping the team win since the game was long decided.

@Steven Stocker right, how many people can say that their team ruled their division for four straight years? That’s pretty badass.
The greatest Superbowl team of all time.

Best Redskins team ever.
Jeff Hostetler
Giants backup QB Jeff Hostetler performed beautifully against the Bills.
Let’s go to 1992 vs the redskins,
The Bills faced one of the most underrated NFL teams of all time in the 1991 Washington Redskins.
The smart gamblers remember, the NFC had won eight straight Super Bowls at this point,
Buffalo never got off the ground as they were crushed 52-17.
1994 against Dallas was the same result and they were even worse then previous years.
Bottom line. The bills were not a Super Bowl caliber team the afc was a joke in the 90s.
%ģ
He got sacked 9 times the entire year, I could put up ok numbers getting sacked 9 times in a season.

Reversed touchdown and missed FG; Skins still whooped their ass 😂. This team was insane.
The Bills lost 4 straight Super Bowls in 4 different ways... Lost a tough nail biter by a missed FG, then they made a bunch of mental errors and beat themselves (no disrespect to the Skin, but that should’ve been one the best SB’s ever), then Dallas straight blew them up, then they just ran out of gas in every possible way after basically playing 5 seasons in 4 years
This was the best game team the hills faced
This game was over before it started. The media hyped this game. The Bills got beat in every way shape and form.
If the Bills win 4 straight Superbowls in a row they would probably have gone down as one of the best dynasty’s of all time.
I'm sure they would have been completely satisfied if they had gotten even a measly ONE out of the four, ya blithering idiot lol.

Dallas dominated all year, Buffalo was just a lucky wildcard team so it wasn’t that much of a shock that they lost

As for Mark rypien he was OK had some sold years in 89, 90 but in 91 it all came together for him.
gootchie its a shame how he let drugs and alcohol take over his life and ruin his career!
Credit Gibbs, Gibbs had to rearrange the game plan around one Rypien Strength and cover up his many weaknesses. Rypien had a deadly accurate deep ball and a strong character and with a coach like Gibbs its all you need to be an NFL and SB MVP.
lol Bruce Smith the "prophet"
Bills receivers drop four potential TDs in the first half.
Buffalo should have won this Super Bowl.
Bills made 4 Super Bowls in a row ( although they lost them all ) nobody would do that again and nobody ever will now in the days of free agency and the salary cap
Yep. Losing 2 SBs in a row is impossible these days.
Epic moment 17:57
Did you know that Cornelius Bennett and Nate Odomes lost four Super Bowls with buffalo and lost one with Atlanta...don beebe won a Super Bowl with Green Bay and Mike Lodish went on to win two super bowls with Denver. Gotta be in the right place at the right time...look at J.J. Stokes, he won one with New England and he didn’t even play in the game
Steve Young has three rings...people always forget that. Two just carrying Montana's clipboard.
Hail to the REDSKINS forever!
as we get to host the Super Bowl (from Minnesota) Nice to look back at the first. As long as Patriots don't win it again or a blowout 42-17 or something. I love first Time in 26 Years! Welcome to SUPER BOWL 52! I guarantee the Bills won't lose again LOL!
Jim Jim cause the Bills won’t be there.
Damn!! 7:40 to 9:40!! The Redskins were handing out free CTE that day like it was candy!!
One of those 1 season wonder teams.
nope. It was Gibb's last year before he (sadly) decided to retire. During his tenure this happened:
In 12 years, the Gibbs-led Redskins compiled a 124-60-0
regular-season record and a 16-5 record in 21 post-season games. His
combined .683 winning percentage is surpassed only by Vince Lombardi
(.740) and John Madden (.731).
Gibbs is the only coach to have won three Super Bowls
with three different quarterbacks, Joe Theismann (XVII), Doug Williams
(XXII) and Mark Rypien (XXVI). Under Gibbs, Washington won 10 or more
games eight times and had only one losing season (7-9 in 1988).
@@pricepittsburgh oh, okay then. I feel ya. I'm pickin up what you're puttin down. :)
Agreed
@@coppulor6500 No, he coached the 1992 season then he retired came back from 2004-07
Anyone know the name of the song played at 13:20?
The Bills just couldn't stop the blitz. The Bills defense and offense got burned on both sides. The offense couldn't pick it up and Washington happily scored on the turnovers. It didn't work on the defensive side.
God bless Thurman Thomas. It just didn't turn out the way it should have.
Gary Clark was awesome in 1991!
Wonder how did Thurman Thomas find his helmet?
It was sitting over there where he left his heart and manhood. Against the Cowboys, he claimed it was cramps after two more fumbles in the SB.
Bills did everything possible to lose this one
Bills got housed.
As a49ers fan I must make it clear , the 1991 Redskins team is the best in history next to the 1995 49ers team.
The 95 49ers lost to the Packers in the playoffs. The 94 49ers won the SB but that team wasn't nearly as good as either the 84 or 89 49ers. Both of those teams slayed every opponent in the playoffs and had better regular-season records to boot.
@L E As a Niners fan the 1989 team was the best of all time the Niners team your talking about was 1994 the Super Bowl was played in January 1995
As of the early 2000's before this painful last 20 years hit, the Miami Dolphins were the most successful team(winning percentage) of any professional team in the world.
Bring back the original logo & the uniforms of the late 90's or early 2000's(shiny aqua pants)
Second of four falls.
greatest team of all time i think
The 1983 Redskins team gets no respect because they didn't win the Super Bowl
Typical superbowl for back then...
the afc team had offense but no defense,
The nfc team had offense and defense and was the more complete team.
I wish someone could identify the music score at 3:07.
Beautiful, beautiful music. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this..
Snap! Ive heard it on other nfl film productions, would love to know what it is.

Bruce Smith choked in 4 straight Super Bowls, he pumped nothing up
When are we ever gonna get good again
I don’t know man but hang on lol. Just keep rewatching this Super Bowl and hold on!
Anyone know the background music around the 3:30 mark? Great upload 👍
