I was at the first introduction and demonstration of the new Nuffield range in November 1967 in Kildare Ireland. The tractors were stored in a Nuffield dealership in Maynooth. They were Nuffield agents from the start of the manufacture of the tractors. Alas the tractors were prone to overheating. On that day when the new tractors were working hard the v belts were screeching. The tractors had a rain cap on the exhaust that was rattling. The plastic badges were falling off because of serious vibration. The second incarnation Series 2 with decals was a better put together machine. By then the damage was done. A lot of farmers looked elsewhere for other makes which hit the family business hard. Twas a pity because the 10/60 and 4/60 and the Universal were the Rolls Royce of tractor at a reasonable price.
@@TheClassicFarmer we had one with a 6 cylinder engine and the rest were 4s. We worked ours pretty hard and usually at least one engine swap a year. We always had a spare engine on standby. If you've got a block and tackle you can do an engine swap with the fuel tank in place to save a little time. With air tools we could do one single handed in half a day.
@@thegregdavieschannel dad had a 4/65 with a 6 cylinder in it aswell for silage he went through 3 engines over the years. It eventually got sold before he died and try as I might the guy who bought it wouldn’t sell it back to me.
Good video 👍 drove a 4/65 when was at school great pulling tractor out performed the Ford 5000 we had , worst thing about it was it was really heavy on the steering 🙄🤬🤬

Funny I always liked the 4/65 over the older nuffields. Then again most of our working ones back in the day had 6/98s butchered into them
Good video I had a 465 briefly many years ago but the brakes were hard to keep right but it went well quite fast on the road too
@@paulthompson8467 yeah they will do almost 50k on 38 inch rims but it’s like stopping a cargo ship you need to plan a mile ahead
@@TheClassicFarmer my dad said about the Nuffield there was better brakes on a child's pram🤣
@@paulthompson8467 he wasn’t lieing those pram brakes are good 😂
Happy memories. I used to drive and maintain 3 4/65's and a 10/60.
@@thegregdavieschannel I’m catching up on a similar fleet I’ve 4 4/65’s I’ll need to find a new home for 2 of them soon
