Being new to bolt action found this walkthrough alongside models really useful , thanks ken 👍
Glad I can help buddy!
The FSJ were not dropped completely unarmed. They had pistols and grenades. Anything heavier was dropped in canisters. The reason was that the parachutes that the FSJ used was a bit weird. The harness was attached to the middle of the Jäger's back. You can see from allied drops that when they jumped, they went feet first. When the FSJ jumped, they went head first. Long story short, their harness couldn't take the extra weight without making it dangerous for the trooper.
Thanks for that it explains why they dropped separate! Nice bit of history there bud. I have learnt somthing new today.to be fair I would def rather jump with my main weapon.
@@3dWargamer no doubt. That's probably why they took such heavy casaulties. FYI, in the video when you mention snipers being overpowered. I agree with you that that rule sucks. However, snipers cannot take out artillery pieces with one shot, for example, the 88. As I recall, they can take teams out with one shot. MMGs, mortars, bazooka etc. Artillery doesn't have the team rule so cannot be taken out with one shot. That's why its better to take a light artillery piece sometimes instead of a medium mortar. more or less the same points but no autokills. I don't think the light artillery can shoot smoke though.
Always great to see people’s forces all laid out! I wonder how many points of Germans I have..... I will need to count now! Lol nice reputation I am getting there. One problem I have with your vehicles is that none are based.....
Cheers dom dont go there dom as we wont be able to be friends lmao. Thanks very much I thought it would be a quick video I was wrong.
@@3dWargamer lol don't go there. Made me chuckle. I too, am a non based tank user. If I was to base all my vehicles I'd be busy all year!¡! Besides without bases you can use on more maps without clashing base with table (grass in city streets for example) and you can fit your vehicles in places the real vehicles could go,thin street or gap in hedgerows etc etc.
Also when your tank is sat on pile of rubble or rocks it looks right whereas with base it just looks like it's falling over on a wonky table 😄
26:49 I think you were trying to think of "condone". You do not condone what the SS did
57:24 The StuG III doesn't have to roll for turret jam. Also the StuG's mmg is 360 while the Panzer IV both are fixed to one arc. Also StuG III is shorter so typically easier to hide it to gain cover bonus
Yer I couldn't get the correct word out do not agree with the ss and what the stand for at all.
Still prefer the panzer 4 to be honest not rolling for the turret jam is not to bad. It can be quite good in that regards need a heavy fielded table of terrain to take advantage of the stug low profile.
Stug Life! And also The Puma does Not Take Up The Panzer Slot.
A big collection, good painting. Cheers mate.
Its crazy as all those models are painting which is very strange lol!!!
dont let guy from midwinter mini's see this,,, he will report you.
Lol yes so I have heard what an idiot
Interesting video. I have run Volksgrenadiers. The special rule sadly hardly ever happens. Occasionally they have become regular but also I have rolled a one, and game over. You are right about German engineering. They were the guys who the Americans used to get them to the moon. All that space tech was based on the work done for them by German engineers who had worked on the V2 rockets.
Hahaha love it mate volksgreniders I'll have to try them again lol
Nice, brilliant looking force mate
Cheers need more british now lol
A wonderful army,very indepth
Thanks very much bud. I did try to do in depth look thought people may find it handy
26:20 what happened there haha
The Rubicon version of the motorcycle with sidecar has machine gun. It's available in both regular and Afrika Korps variants.
Rubicon all the way my friend. I'll have to get one now!
Cheeky hour and a half vid, dropping it when I'm at work though, naughty!
Somthing to start at lunch time buddy!
Germansssssss my favorites...beautiful army.
Thanks buddy I do try!
Panzer 4 H is the only one that should run the tiger fear rule. The whole point is the one with all the turret skirts and side skirts looked like a tiger the ones without the sideskirts and turret skirts should just be run without the tiger fear rule.
That's where the stug 3 becomes more viable because you're having to spend that extra amount to get the skirts etc to gain that tiger fear rule.
At least that's how I've always read it. I think they stopped explaining this in the new German rile book but it used to have a small paragraph about it in the old rules I think.
BTW the stug you have is stug 3 , you can always tell by the number of wheels. Panzer 4 and stug 4 have 8 sets of small road wheels and extra return roller, 4 in total (little wheels at the top holding tracks up)
Stug 3 and Panzer 3 have 6 sets of wheels and 3 return rollers each side.
Handy when identifying which chassis is used to create later tanks , like the short barrel 150mm howitzer based Brümbar is a panzer 4 chassis for example, with huge thick casemate
And the stug 33B is based on Panzer 3 also with 150mm howitzer and enclosed casemate though longer barrel and less angled armour etc
A great collection!!
Cheers buddy I do try as much as I can I have to many germans
I think the open top rule has to be considered less like a physical action of firing a gun at a shield and more as how vulnerable each vehicle is to attacks.
You can't start saying well , if I'm shot from this angle or that angle I'm clearly behind a shield as this starts us down a far more complex modelling that bolt action clearly doesn't allow for.
Consider the rules for tanks being shot from only 4 basic directions front, rear and either side (5 if you add top). It doesn't account for angles where actually the shells would bounce or the armour would be increased etc.
"Open topped" represents the vulnerability to all form of attack not modelled but are in war like grenades , molotovs, gas or schrapnel etc not just a bullet coming in from one direction.
So yes , it can be annoying getting pinned by rifle fire from the front where your shield for the gun is but just think of the real life difference between shooting at a fully enclosed tank versus a vehicle where the crew can be seen and hit at whatever angle. One is impossible to hurt the other possible. That's what the open top rule really accounts for, not the trajectory of a rifle, smg or pistol round.
So to recap you have to simplify it unless you want to increase the complexity of everything in the game.
Not that that couldn't be cool to do , just it would make the game less simple and that's what bolt action set out to do. Cut out the overly complex charts and dice rolls routines
So does it get a bit annoying having your crew pinned , sure , but this is a basic agreed cost of not having a vehicle fully enclosed against many forms of attack.
If we do start down this road we will need to consider, grenades being thrown by soldiers when going into close quarters attacks , at the momemt theres no grenades being thrown by the handfull like they did in real attacks, how tanks aren't actually in cover just because half or more of their bulk is behind a wall, you would have to model even if a wheel is showing, the true width of a gun traverse on tank destroyer or emplaced AT gun etc, they don't have 45degrees either way many have as little as 15 degrees or even less to each side, Hetzers have more one side than the other!! Should we make rules for all this?
See what I mean. We would be there for DAYS working it all out, looking up charts lol.
I think the open top is a compromise we have to accept as "fair"
Next spring I hope my Germans will be done. I think I can rival your points. But only with NWE(building armies and terrain for France/Benelux/Germany DDay to Berlin) so just Late war boys… 😅 haven‘t started with early war.
The carbine rule is probably to increase their close combat, Pistols are assault weapons. very nasty
This is true but u only get them while on horse back so u think they ca fight on horse back?
Also I believe the 88 can't be taken out by a sniper. Artillery can only be taken out with exceptional damage by anything with a Pen value
Take away ..... Ken hates open top haha
You dont chose the STUG life, it chooses you. How can you put a points value on cool? 😀
No Pak 36 or trucks 🛻? Lmao 🤣 shows you how crazily diverse the army lists are and how many options you have. 7,000pts and still things missing, puts Warhammer to shame actually
