Love the Warhammer stuff, but I admit I'm here for the Bolt Action. I'm US Based, and I've been playing Bolt Action for about a year. Specifically, I went with Canadians themed around Normandy and the later Italian Campaign (because Tough as Old Boots is better than Fanatic against SS because so few people I play with, regularly, use SS).
The Brens with Royal Canadian Engineers is pretty tasty, you can run 4/5 SMGs (NCO cannot take an SMG), and you can use them as Veteran or Regular, and they can take Stubborn. Stubborn Regulars with an LMG is a good mix, because you get some ranged firepower. 24 inches can feel awfully far away, and that extra foot to go out to 36 inches allows you to threaten the enemy artillery sitting in the back line.
For what it's worth, I'm interested in a ranking of the different National/Commonwealth Rules. It doesn't have to "specifically" be British National, but also German, US, French, Soviet, Hungarian, Finnish, etc...
Thanks for all of the hard work, and I love your videos!!!

I always stuff Commandos with SMGs into a Bren Carrier, nobody enjoys 5 SMGs driving up to their least defended objective. I call it my Dagger. I hate heavier tanks, I'd personally swap out the Cromwell for a light tank and an armored car. Their goals would be bullying infantry, but if my opponent has a heavy tank I'd be willing to put a couple pot shots in to pin it a tad. I really enjoy the feeling of clearing off most of my opponent's infantry until he's stuck with 500 points split between two heavy vehicles that can protect one or two objectives, but they can't stop me from plopping men onto the other 3 and taking a nap for the rest of the game.

P.S. I must admit I forgot about Italy and the 8th Army served there. I don't know if they took the Boyes A/T gun into Italy but I do believe they did have Cromwells.

It essentially uses the old bolt action rules from a previous edition, it was a fan made supplement but warlord bought the rights to it and it's been rotting in the corner since, which is a shame cos it's quite enjoyable, its like bolt action but more open to conversions and kitbashing

Why is a 25 pounder the same anti tank at a 2 pounder? Umm... I know it would have to cost more, but should be medium imo

Not that you write the rules, but don't you think the classification of the 25pdr as light A/T is a bit off? Historically the gun gave grief to Mk IV's as well as Mk III's even when they were up armoured. I get that a panther and tigers were beyond its reach, ( Unless it was a flank shot and hit the wheels or track) but while the muzzle velocity is low, the shot has mass. Just wondering about your opinion on the matter.

Why three FOO for two artillery pieces? Is that not a points sink? You showed one with the mortar, one with the gun and then one with the Bren Carriers.

So you are advising beginners, like me. Why would anyone take this list? Cromwells did not exist in the desert so the force is not a desert force. If that means it is late war then why would you use a Boyes A/T rifle when a PIAT would be so much more dangerous? I could be wrong on that but it occurs to me a shaped charge will punch through medium tank armour where as the Boyes just wont. As far as general pick up games are concerned, the Boyes is still the worse choice and being as you have three artillery spotters for two artillery pieces I am sure any extra points could be gleaned from here. I grant you that Shermans were available in the desert after 1942, so that would be more thematic. Or you could introduce an exotic flavour with the Grant or use a Crusader Mk III with that nice 6pdr A/T, though historically they did not have an HE round to start off with.

Forces are not always historically correct and it is not required to be so. You could take the exact same army with the standard british infantry and call it a late war army. I myself try to go for historically accurate but I don’t mind if my opponent does otherwise.
The boys A/T rifle is not bad, yes it doesn’t threaten medium tanks like a piat but it has more range and firing at infantry is a valid option with the 2 pen.
The Piat has only 12” range and it is sad to see that the bazooka or panzerschrek have 24”. The A/T rifle outperforms the piat against soft skinned and light tanks due to the increased range it has. Also, more competitive lists tend to have light tanks with a lot of mmg fire in stead of a brick of a tank that costs a lot of points.
My Piats mostly serve a deterrent on the battlefield. I take them for board control.
The observers, one of them is the free artillery observer the british get. It is an excellent way of getting pins onto the opponents huddled troops. It’s free, no reason to not take it. 😃
The mortar and 25 pdr observers are there to help your artillery pop shots onto the enemy without needing to put your artillery into view. Deploy them behind a house in safety and use the observers view to target enemies.

Bolt Action is more tournament orientated so building army lists based on points using want you want rather than strictly historically accurate. I find Chain of Command by the Two Fat Lardies to be more historically accurate for the same scale (platoon level) games.

@@Delrimus Fair cop. I did go to Iron Fest a couple of weeks ago and spoke to some re-enactors who confirmed that the Aussies at least used the Boyes as a kind of sniper weapon clearing off enemy scouts who were daft and made themselves visible.
