Galaxy Buds review: everything but the basics

- Samsung’s Galaxy wireless buds were our shiny gleam of hope for cutting the headphone cord. The Galaxy Buds feel like feathers, they’re easy to sit in your ears, and they seem to get Samsung’s claimed six hours of battery life on a charge (with seven more in the case). The small form factor allows the case to easily fit in my pocket, but the problems set in when you begin to use them.

What wireless headphones are you using? What do you want to be using?
I use the Bullets Wireless by OnePlus. They are amazing at the price and i like having a wire around my neck.
Hiiiiiiiii
I’m using JBL TB450. got them for 30€ on Amazon, full price was 50€. I’m happy, they do the job and have a very good quality for the price
Mine Are A Sony WI-C400, Galaxy Buds Are Quite Compelling, If I Will Buy A Galaxy S10/S10+/S10e✌️✌️😜😂
The headphones who comes with the Pixel 3 XL.. It's fine
I'm glad I didn't pass on the Galaxy Buds based solely on this interviewer's opinion... so far I've had no issues with my buds
I have a question do you use Samsung phone or not. And if you don't how is the lag. Because I'm going to buy these today so I need to know.
@@eyaddc I have the S9 with Galaxy Buds. There is no lag for me at all. Just turn on bluetooth and the buds will automatically connect. They're great.
@@eyaddc I use them with a Google pixel 3. I have latency with VLC media player, but RUclips and music is fine
Should I get them? It's pretty expensive as I'm going to be using my savings and I want to know if I'm making the right choice. Or should I just wait for the Next generation to come out? :)
@@hannahwang6109 I'm sure the next generation will be better.. but I am happy with them.. If you are a Costco member, you can buy the white buds for $120, but I prefer the black ones so I bought them on Amazon.
The recorder is a genuis move to capture the sound of the microphone.
That Zoom recorder is not necessary. Just use a call recording app.
thats the entire reason im gonna pass on these. probably go with the sound sport free or airpods
JoshOG I’m gonna stick with my 30 dollar wired earbuds which sound better than any of these, are more comfortable and don’t need a recharge haha
Yes this was really useful! :)
elwhizard, recording via recording app is not the same due to the different codecs being used. They did the proper thing. Thanks, Verge!
This review is pretty old considering the buds lifespan so far and at this point its inaccurate. There was a software update that fixes the audio quality and the mic works fine now. So this review isnt so great to use as reference
Could you send any resources or update notes for the mic getting fixed?
Don't trust this review AT ALL. Preordered mine and they feel amazing, and having an s10 adds to it.
I agree.. especially on the dynamic mode - the audio quality is true and not too saturated or fuzzy from bass. It sounds true to the audio mix which apple and others blow out of proportion with bass. It's not all about bass people 🙄 and idk if the update mine received today did anything to the mic but I called my girlfriend within the first hour of receiving them and she said I sounded fine and I was outside sooooo.. who's paying you to do a bad review? 😂
@@_dmfd yea exactly I did a test with the Mic as well, I called my brothers iPhone 8 plus using my galaxy buds paired to my s10 and he said the buds sound normal. I don't like too much bass either I like the balance and having the option to equalise my buds which my brothers airpods just can't offer.
Is there any sound delay beetwen visual and audio for watching movies,videos...
Foreal got mine 4 days ago its amazing sound quality amazing I was watching this before I got the buds it didn't really help cause other reviewer were liking it so got the buds
I haven't trusted any review from the Verge on non-apple products for years.
I have the galaxy buds and love them. I admit the ambient sound is un natural but does work. Because of the extreme secure fit, when I twist them into place I feel like I'm in a special ops unit ready for a mission lol.
Good review 😂
How does the audio quality compare to the earphones that come in the box with the s10?
@@JETBLACKPRIEST I hace them as well, it's not a day and night difference, but you can tell a difference if you only had wired headphones from the box before. It's more for the convenience rather than quality really :)
@@Mardoxx7 honestly for me I'm not willing to give up any sound quality for the convenience of being wireless, tbh it's actually less convenient for me having to worry about charging them or losing one of them if it falls out or I misplace them, so the sound quality would have to be on par if not better for me to wanna make the switch
@@JETBLACKPRIEST they come close but the sound is better on the one that you get with the phone
"This review is about disapointment"
Well that really sets the tone, doesnt it?
the Verge is just sad at this point. Try to find a non-Apple review that's rated high from them.
The best joke I've heard in a while 😂
everything about the verge is disapointment lol
The audio quality for music is actually amazing. It's well balanced and true audiophiles will appreciate the dynamic setting on the EQ. Bass is right where it needs to be. I mean if you feel the need to damage your ears then so be it. Samsung did a great a great job of reproducing music like the artist intended. If the track was mixed and mastered well, then the Galaxy Buds will accentuate this. Similarly, if the song was mixed and mastered poorly, then the buds will expose that as well. However, I do agree that the microphone needs an update.
lol copare it with sennheiser
@@majus5226 excellent thought.
Agreed on audio quality. I was surprised by how good they performed for what they are. As always seal is important for sound. Hopefully, next gen improves on mic quality.
I also liked the wide sound stage they provided. Very good purchase.
@@majus5226 Lol dude, obviously sennheiser has higher sound quality. They are a headphone company the has even higher quality than bose for the most part
The opening of this review wants me to close the video immediately!
Me too
Yehh mam so much negativity about the product
Jim's review room showed the same problem with the microphones outside
yeah,...but sadly, others reviews only care to compare the looks of it to AirPods...which to me look worse(like you're Frankenstein) and not the actual quality of the basics!
You wont get a Heart from the Verge for this comment :))
Lol it's alright
Lol damn they really did just pass mine up
@@ManuelSalcedo nah stylewise they look cooler than the airpods because they are smaller... the airpods are like some earphones with cables that are cut lol
What a good way to show us the phone call quality!good job🤩🤩🤩🤩
I still noticed no difference, really they all sounded fairly identical.
@@emp_m9686 Then you need better speakers :D
@@b99andla no you need better ears
@@emp_m9686 Yeah, me and the reviewer and all other people in this chat!
@@b99andla Dude if you scroll through the comments you'd see a fair share of people say the same thing, plus I barely trust a verge reviewer (excluding Vlad). I still can't believe they're the only ones who consider the Airpod's sound quality better than the buds unlike the majority of reviews. But alas, the bais towards Apple is quite impressive.
Completely disagree with you. Just don't understand how you can miss the mark this badly. My Galaxy Buds have never dropped a connection from my s10 since the day they shipped to me, and in the several weeks I've had them I expected the sound to cutout given where I live, but with nearly 80ft and three walls in between me and my phone and the buds haven't lost connection once.
I also came from the Jabra 65t, and I can tell you right now, the difference in sound quality is nearly imperceptible. The drivers they both utilitize are practically the same size, so don't know why you would even think that. The bass on the Jabra may be a little deeper, but then again the buds are louder in my opinion and if I had to scale it the Jabra's base would be a 9 and the Galaxy Buds would be an 8.
Lastly as someone who goes on runs downtown no-one has ever complained about call quality or sound cutting out when I wear my buds. Yeah the ambient sound is a little tinny compared to the Jabra 65t but I can tell you that I certainly here a lot more around me than with he Jabra. It's like the distance the mics can pick up noise is extended farther than my 65t used too.
All in all I just don't agree with many of your points if any at all. The recorder was a nice idea, but even during the comparison outside I could still hear you clearly on the buds and I channeled the sound through my phone speaker to really test it. I think you have a really nice review style; your presentation is concise and not super wordy. Nice camera work and succinct writing. I just don't agree with your review, but that doesn't mean it wasn't well constructed. Hopefully I'll find common ground in your future work.
this.
Tq so much..your comment really help me decide.

Great review! The best I have found. The idea to compare the mic quality was nice!
I appreciate how you articulate your points.
Yooooooooooooo! You used the wrong cable to plug into the recorder! The headphone jack is unbalanced and you went into a single balanced input
interesting, how does that change the recording/sound quality?
Roy the left and right channel will phase cancel in certain areas which typically results in a “hollow” sound.
@@ColinMcNutt exactly.. Thought I was the only one that noticed...
Except this isn't why they sound awful
M Huang the point she was making at that part of the video was that the buds actually do make awful sounding phone calls. Other than that, the point was made that they overall sound fine, not awful
Definitely one of the best reviews for a product I've seen in awhile. You went more in depth with the buds then most out there, thank you! These were the exact questions I needed answered. Keep up the good work!
LOVE the call quality test! Really useful!
What an amazing way to show the audio quailty! Thank you!
Thanks for the upfront synopsis. I stayed for the whole thing to get the details. The mic recording made my decision to wait for the next version or 2 easy. Thanks I'm subscribed for all your future review's.
There have already been 3 iterations of these...
Yeah thanks a review channel for the upfront synopsis without being paid money to say that.
Just a heads up, Samsung users just had a software update improving and speeding up the whole phone. Maybe that changed something with audio because there was a Samsung wearables update to, if not don't mind me.
The galaxy wearable update did fix a lot of the initial issues of the galaxy buds
The update did fix a few things but not much, call quality is still the same tbh, but the audio is for some reason waaaaay better!
I dont know, my call quality isn't as bad as the one on the video.
@@poop7718 I might order them today

I have the GalaxyBuds since 2 months, and I *LOVE 'EM*
Thanks for reassuring me that I'm still happy with my Jabra Elite 65ts ;)
They're not perfect, but they're still my favorite tech purchase of the past two years or so.
Super like for the presentation and for the mic/ recorder move. Every reviewer should do this. Kudos.
Using the recorder to capture mic quality for a video review is what sets The Verge apart from other tech reviews on RUclips. Thank you for reminding me why I subscribed 5 years ago. Good work!
I like the audio test. Nicely done
I have the buds and I called my friend and told him to record it and it sounded as good as my phone's mic if not better
It has been fixed. This video is really old and so many software updates have released since then
Obviously this video was made before the updates that made Galaxy Airbuds sound better.
I just got a set and I love mine! They even fit comfortably into my tiny ears.
Can you do an update video since Samsung rolled out new updates for Airbuds? Thanks!
I was gonna say they sound good to me but still a good review tho I just got mines.
Is the mic better ?
They're the *GalaxyBuds* not Airbuds, lol.
I've had my Jabra elite 65t's for a year now and they're still wonderful
Watching with my new buds!

Houssam Alucad malaysia
Larry J if you go back, this review says "I don't like these, they're a failure" and then 95% of the review is positive things. They fit well, feel great, good isolation, sound is definitely on par, convenient. But the mic is slightly worse. She never says anything about being overpriced because they aren't, they are underpriced. I used to use airpods and if those weren't overpriced then nothing is. These have more features, better fit and isolation and the same or better on every else as airpods, for $70 less. The way she made this video seems manipulative.

Everything is aswome in Samsung buds ... sound quality way better than iPhone Buds...why they are lieing
Seriously- at 2:50 .... That shit changed my damn mind. Like holy hell that's a super cool feature to have
Basically u could just have 1 charging cable to charge 2 phones at once!!
I don't think it's a good idea. It can damage your battery really quick.
@@quando7755 wat?
It also charges really slow. Not a good idea
@@quando7755 This will not damage your battery you don't know what you are talking about and when you put the buds in the case they can get about an hour of playtime in 15 minutes. Both of you are wrong.
@@remingtonrojas just wait until Apple "invent" this feature on their upcoming iPhone to charge the Airpods, they will lose their mind and their kidneys by the way.
Very clever way to test the microphones. It's crystal clear the differences.
Awesome job Becca. Thanks so much.
Becca's delivery on this review is amazing. Super eloquent and concise. Also the review of the Galaxy Buds, totally wasn't expecting the results.
I purchased the galaxy buds 3 days ago and I totally fell in love with them! I think the audio quality is good (mostly compared to that of the headphones I used to use). The mic isn't great but I think it's not that bad, still haven't tried it for phone calls though. It seemed pretty good to me after using it for ambient sound (which is a really useful feature for me). The battery life is awesome, they always last so long. The only thing I complain about is that they're not that comfortable in my ears but I can deal with it.
Very cool review! Keep em coming!
What a great review! I want more reviews from Becca!
The ambient sound is REALLY helpful in my work environment where people come up to me to ask questions all the time and where I still need to hear if something (or someone) drops to the floor. Maybe you can take that into consideration in the next review. I don't want to take them out everytime a person wants to talk to me. (Like every 5minutes in my case)
I got a nice student discount on the Galaxy Buds so I should be getting those on April 15th or some time around then. I'm super excited to get them, but thank you for letting us know about the audio quality.

So I watched this review yesterday and received my buds today.. I'm not certain if it is the fact that I'm using a Galaxy S10+ but they aren't anything like you explained the sound and the call quality are optimum. The jabras sound the best outside, but the galaxy wearable app got an update that fixed most of the initial problems with the galaxy buds, which might include the mic but I don't really know I don't have galaxy buds. Also just the phone audio quality in general wasn't that good imo. Idk what that's about

Taking calls is not a necessity of headphones. Headphones are made for listening; that's literally their purpose. Calls are a luxury as you put it. I am still temped to try it, but the lack of audio quality I keep hearing is scaring me off at the moment.

Id say the audio quality is better than the airpods in my opinion
It is not really a luxury. Not in truly wireless earbuds. For me it is essential and I guess it is for the most people
