Since you asked. I briefly wanted to share with you the 7 criterion titles I just purchased/pre-ordered for the sale and will be arriving at my doorstep throughout the month of July: - Drive My Car (2021) - Worst Person in the World (2021) - Okja *4K* (2017) - Raging Bull *4K* (1980) ~blind buy~ - Double Indemnity *4K* (1944) ~blind buy~ - Citizen Kane *4K* (1941) - Woman in the Dunes (1964) Also arriving in the month of July, I have one additional bluray release arriving at my doorstep. With that being: - Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022) And in the month of May I had an additional haul arrive at my doorstep from facebook marketplace with a ridiculously good price that I couldn't resist: - Roma (2018) - Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001) ~blind buy~ - Flowers of Shanghai (1998) ~blind buy~ - Before Trilogy ~blind buy~ - Three Colors Trilogy ~blind buy~ That's my list. I look forward to cracking into all of these titles. Especially the blind buys.
The closest B&N to me is a 2 hour drive (both ways) away so visiting a store in-person was out of the question for me this sale. Not worth my time. And also gas dollars.
That’s a great haul! This is gonna be my first sale and the start of my collection- I’m definitely getting Seven Samurai, Drive My Car, Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Parasite. Might also blind buy After Life after that glowing recommendation.
I picked up -Ali: Fear Eats The Soul -Blow Out -America Lost And Found: The BBS Story -Melvin Van Peebles: Essential Films -Dreams -All That Jazz -The Last Temptation Of Christ -Night Of The Hunter -The Funeral -Chan Is Missing
Great picks! I started my criterion colection with The Piano Teacher, Naked, Mulholland Dr, 12 Angry Men and Paris, Texas. All editions are great with amazing special features!
Bill, those are some great pickups! I picked up The Worst Person in the World as well and watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it. Le Cercle Rouge 4K and Taste of Cherry are both good as well. I almost pulled the trigger on Pink Flamingos but couldn’t quite do it just yet 😊. Enjoy those!
I got Vampyr Watership Down Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learn to Quit Worrying and Love the Bomb Uncut Gems The Princess Bride Pink Flamingos
Super haul. Wow. I have about half of these myself. I'm not sure I'm going to Barnes this month though after my Kino splurge just blew my self-imposed budget. Might punt the Criterions to November.
Have not bought anything yet but I’m considering: Short Cuts Night of the Hunter The First films of Kurosawa Eclipse series Leave Her to Heaven And The Human Condition
Personally my favorite of those are Night of the Hunter. Such a hauntingly brilliant film. Only saying that since I haven’t finished The Human Condition yet.
@@BillGriff1 The night of the hunter is so great I have seen all the films I mentioned except the Kurosawa box set and human condition. I think I am definitely getting night if the hunter and blind buying human condition.
I got my sale yes I didn’t much for CDs there few I’m waiting on certain ones on the list I made for my dad yes I got 30% off sale at Barnes and Nobles yes I have the same bag
Stumbled on your channel related to the Barnes & Nobles half-off sale. I rarely buy physical media but I had to grab Night of the Hunter and Mulholland Drive.
Glad to see some love for Ali: Fear Eats The Soul. I watched it in a world cinema class and liked it a lot. I still need to see All That Heaven Allows and more of Fassbinder's work
Sweet haul my dude! Picked up The Tales of Hoffman and The Worst Person in the World, and am planning on picking up All that Heaven Allows, Drive my Car and The Piano Teacher - two of those are thanks to this video. I have had All that Heaven Allows on my list for a while but haven't pulled the trigger. A really small haul compared to what I typically get from the sales, but my Criterion Closet is in the 200's now, so I have put in the work through the years.
i highly recommend watching The Devil’s Backbone (also on the collection) once you’re done watching pan’s labyrinth. it’s essentially the “brother film” to pan’s labyrinth as described by del toro himself
I’ve been meaning to checkout Satyajit Ray’s filmography for a long time now. Which would you recommend I start with first? Or is the Apu Trilogy the gold standard?
@@BillGriff1 I've seen a bunch of Ray's work. I do think The Apu Trilogy is a good start to Ray's work as the first two movies in that trilogy are the first and second movies he ever directed. I'd say watch Charulata after The Apu Trilogy as they aren't really as complex as some of Ray's other works. Once you watch Charulata, I'd say watch The Big City & The Coward (The Coward is on the disc for The Big City). I'd then watch Devi (It's a good way into the more complex works of Ray) and then The Hero (A more subtle version of 8 1/2, at least that's how I see it) and lastly, The Music Room (One of Ray's most beautiful sounding films). Hope this is a good guide to Ray's filmography.
@@BillGriff1 Also every film I've just listed are on Criterion, I even went to a Barnes and Noble and bought Charulata, Devi, The Music Room and The Big City (Which I didn't own before).
What a great haul (Taste of Cherry is my favorite non-English language film ever and I always get excited when I see it). My first trip was a very successful one, picked up Sid & Nancy, Good Morning, Hiroshima Mon Amour, Short Cuts, Weekend, Love Streams, The Player, Multiple Maniacs, Being There, Some Like It Hot, 4 Months 3 Weeks and 2 Days, Funny Games, Ployester, Husbands, Girlfriends, and Shaft. Round two is coming in a couple weeks and I think I need to pick up some Edward Yang as I just started dating a girl and she recently asked me if I had any Taiwanese films.
That’s an epic haul! Hiroshima Mon Amour is a fantastic romance film imo. It explores how trauma and grief can be expressed without the language border in a beautiful way. Also, Definitely try to get Yi Yi if your Barnes and Noble has it in stock. I was very disappointed to see my store didn’t have it.
Getting great finds! I suggest Devil in a Blue Dress, Shaft, The Girl Can’t Help It, Love Affair, Chan is Missing and Menace II Society if you plan a next haul
I like all films exept the worst person in the world. I understand norwegian and for me everything just felt fake in the acting. but pink flamingo is my favorite in your haul this time around =)

New subscriber here! I like the way you talk about your passion for movies and for collecting them. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
For my first haul this month I got Häxan, Vampyr, weekend, Vivre Sa Vie, bicycle thieves, worst person in the world, and double indemnity 4K
Great haul! I got some good recommendations from watching it.

Will do, those’re the last two Del Toro films I need to see.
Great Haul Bill. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on each one.
Nice haul, had one today myself. You should definitely get In the Realm of the Senses if youre into movies that cross the boundaries of conformity.
Really nice collection, I recommend The Apu Trilogy as a blind buy. One of the best trilogies ever made.

Definitely picking up Menace and Shaft on 4K at some point. I did very much enjoy watching Chan is Missing too.
Insane haul man
Nice vid, I’m hitting up B&N multiple times as well. Just subbed!
How long is the sale going on for?
From July 1st - 31st
I’m skipping this month’s sale so I can buy 100 criterions for November ;)
I like all films exept the worst person in the world. I understand norwegian and for me everything just felt fake in the acting. but pink flamingo is my favorite in your haul this time around =)
