    Thanks for your excellent video complete with disassembly and reassembly. I just ordered the Kershaw Iridium and love to see how it is made.

    Working on watches requires use of different styles of quality tweezers. Paddle, needle,and flats, and these tools make working with small stuff a breeze once you have used them a bit. The captive standoffs, larger bearings, pivots, all add to production costs, and just me, but I fell in love with these and their price point helps. Great knives, and this one got me to start checking out more Dura-Lock offerings from Kershaw. But I’ve been a fan of Kershaw/Kai for a long time. My favorite affordable production company from the git-go. I’m waiting for them to re-release the Random Task, in a more modern, maybe even a manual version w/ Aluminum or Ti scales and cross-bar lock. My next Kershaw will Probably be a Belair? I picked up a Hoist frn and love it as my beater folder. What do you think of the Bel-Air, USA made version of the Iridium? Kind of Bugoutish? Thanks in advance.

      I handled the bel air, and I liked it. Easy recommendation for me to give honestly. I have a soft spot of KAI. 👍

    Great video, thank you! Such small size of the bearings is a big con in my opinion. They'd better put washers.

    The pivot on mine just spins, and I can not loosen it. Any suggestions? Thanks for doing the video.

      I would say you can try some heat but it might be too late. Kershaw might warranty it out of the captive pivot failed.

    Man that sucks about the bearings, I still want this knife but I don't like that! Justin suggestion before you took it apart and you slid the knife in there with the bearings attached to the each side of the blade and they weren't lined up couldn't you stuck like a small t bit or something around in the hole and centered up the bearings and went ahead and push the through like that instead of disassembling the whole knife? But thanks for showing this fault of the knife. I'm sure some people would choose not to buy it because of it, I don't work around dirty area so I don't have to worry about that, but definitely a drawback to this knife!

    • @jd4edc
      @jd4edc  Год назад +2

      The bearings just kept sliding around and wouldn’t hold in place long enough to do it. I tried 6 times before I edited it out.

      @JD 4_EDC well thanks for the info I still think I will get this knife but now I really wish they would put some better bearings in it and did things a little different. I was really excited about this knife. I still probably will buy it, but not as excited about it...

    Just bought this knife a few weeks ago, less than a month old. Both of my omega springs broke and the screws that held the scales on were almost impossible for me to remove. There are little collars inside the backspacer that rotate freely (and these are what the screws that hold the scales on are set into), so I had to pry the first scale off and use needlenose pliers to hold the collars in place to unscrew the second scale. Maybe I was really unlucky with mine, considering I got it for only 50 bucks on amazon, but hopefully somebody finds all that info useful.

      @Rocky-gl3fw Thanks for the tip. I have this variant & the Ti. The Ti broke the show side omega spring & I had the same issue. After reading this I grabbed my needle nose and now all good! Thanks for helping out!

      Mine had the same issue where the scale hardware was just spinning in the collars but I was able to remove the blade and pivot to clean but reinstall of the bearings took some patience but got it all back together without taking the whole knife apart.

    Glad I found this video, I am looking at buying this exact knife. I also wanted to see how easy it would be to disassemble and repaint the orangish lanyard loop. This covered everything I was looking for and then some! Subscribed and saved to my disassembly playlist!! Thank you

    Can redo this video and show u taking all of the knife apart including taking the other scale off. Thst the part im having the most trouble and idk how u took that omega spring off and which way does the bearing face

    • @jd4edc
      @jd4edc  2 месяца назад

      The standoff I wrapped in a cloth to protect it and used pliers to hold still while unscrewing. Sorry that was so long ago that I can remember but I usually mount the open side of the bearings towards the pocketed side to help prevent dirt and debris from getting into the pocket. 💙👊

    I just bought the TI (titanium) version of this knife. I also have the aluminum one.
    I really wish they kept the bronze colored spacer on the TI version as it looks better than the black one and adds a little pop.
    Maybe you can do a video of swapping the spacer out on the new TI version?
    After watching this I’m afraid to attempt it. I have the screw drivers but . . . to disassemble 2 of these for a color swap looks a little tricky.
    You think that you can remove the spacer with out fully disassembling the knife and spring?

    • @jd4edc
      @jd4edc  Год назад +2

      It would probably just be taking out the body screws and pulling them out to swap them.

  • @lancezebeau1035

    was wondering if youd ever revisit this knife? kershaw released an exclusive on their website of the iridium in a milled aluminum topo pattern with a 14c blade, they fixed alot of the original issues with the knife like the lock rock and the centering, id love to see a more in depth deconstruction and reconstruction of this knife as a guide! great content man

    Thanks for doing these. Question: what would you say are your top 5 or 3 knives that not only have a durable locking mechanism and opening mechanism, but are also easy to maintain/disassemble?

    • @jd4edc
      @jd4edc  11 месяцев назад +1

      I’d say Spyderco compression lock, followed by Benchmade and Kizer cross bar lock knives, and then Demko’s shark lock for strong locks that are relatively easy to work on. 👍
