Folowing up, more than a year later. I love both the Vision FG and the Conspirator so much that I ended up getting more than one of each - different handle materials/colors, etc. They are best in different use cases, in my opinion, so they end up not really being competitors. For office and kitchen - Vision FG. For yardwork and around town - Conspirator.
I have the jade G10 version. I agree with you that some more chamfering or contouring would have helped, and some scalloping out of the scale behind the choil to both index your index finger and provide more clearance for the thumbstuds. I also wish the steel liners were skeletonized more than just the "speed holes" for more weight relief. I think Civivi cut a few manufacturing corners, knowing they would sell on the lock alone and they could hit their margins.
It doesn't really matter how "strong" these locks are, because even liner lock will not fail under realistic conditions. And everything that is not liner/frame lock, and isn't based on bending a piece of steel, will be more than strong enough even for extreme use. The whole trick at this point is to create locks that are simple, hard to break, hard to gunk up and easy to use.
I really like my vision fg. I bent the clip down to fix the duck bill. I tilted it towards the center speed hole. It’s really comfy now. Also threw in some skiff bearings. No play, locked or unlocked. It’s a great knife imo.
The clip does suck, but I took mine off gave it a little bend down near the bill end of the longer hole, then straightened the bill, and loosened the tension on the bend at the screw end. The factory clip is now perfect after 15 minutes working on it. If you don't like a stainless steel clip just get a little western with it and maybe you'll love it.
Thank you for the really balanced review. The handle boxiness is something I hadnt seen mentioned anywhere. Cant deny i love that bladeshape tho, so good for everything and easy to sharpen
Mine squeezed when I pulled back the bar. Not sure if that’s what you are hearing. I fixed it by putting a little bit of pivot lube on the spring and it fixed it. And it doesn’t leak since it’s enclosed by the liners.
I have Nitro-V on my Civivi Nox. It is not a bad steel. I like the concept of the super lock. Like the ambidextrous nature of it. I do like the overall look of the knife.
10:55 you have two of them, even though you're giving one away you could've tested the other to see if the sound was in both or just one. I feel that would've been very simple but easy to confirm.
I am waiting for my vision to arrive. I already have the conspirator. The issue with the pocket clip has been identified by other reviewers and I plan on getting a replacement titanium clip, but I'm going to wait until I have it in hand to make the final decision on that. Good review. Thanks
Squeeking is the return spring in the lock bar and my version had dry AF bearings. Disassembled and slathered, way more then necessary, heavy grease in the spring recess. Be careful when you disassemble, spring might fly out. Put some light oil on the bearing, be carefull if you have transparent scales like the ultem.. too much oil will leak and cause the back to look "clear". Much better sounding after this easy work.
I also had an very annoying squeak coming from the lockbar on my damascus vision fg. Eventually I took the whole knife apart and cleaned the whole lockbar and coated the lock barin a very thin film of WD40. I think it was coming from the side of the spring rubbing on the sides. so that got a little extra WD40. and now the thing is as quiet as a mouse:-)
I was walking along my chicken fence the other day and felt a slight snag on my pants. Looked back and my Civivi was perfectly clipped onto the fence completely out of my pocket. It was excellent skillz executed by the fence 😂😂
I did the same thing with my We version and mine squeaks I hit it a few times on the lock somewhere inside their is rubbing . I took it apart and cleaned it and sanded /filed the blade to remove the coating on the blade and bow theirs bone . The squeaking problems most likely are self inflicted. So not really a reason not to get the knife . If you want it of course
I actually like the lock. Anything that isn't a liner lock at this point is a good thing. Just an opinion but liner lock to me just says cheap ,lazy ,and outdated. Especially when there are better locking systems out there.
Recently picked this up and I love it. Super fidgit friendly and solid fit and finish. Only thing I dont like is the location of the clip. Wish it was more centered or even opposide side so its closer to the corner of my pocket.
Good review! You are correct, it's a great time to be into knives! They make so many good knives now it's good to have a channel like yours to help in making decisions. I picked up the Vision FG in the Damascus and love it. Wish I would have just got the plain steel. May still get one. Great value! It's up there with my Demco in Aus 10. (One of my favorites) Also wanted the Cold Steel version of this lock so got the Karve at a good price to try out. It's a beast! Will probably pick up an Engage in S35VN if I find it at a good price. Have the Conspirator and it's one of my favorites. I have the Microtech MSI (which is a fantastic knife) and if they would have put a thumb bump on the top that lock it would have been something!
Thanks for this, Aaron. The innovative lock, blade shape, design, fit/finish, and price all make this a winner for me, and the downsides seem minimal, in my view. Given the choice between this and the Conspirator, I'm definitely picking both. 😅

I keep wanting to pick up that civivi in the exact pattern you have but with the economy the way it is I just don't have the money. But it's definitely cool.
I've had my Vision FG for over a week and it hasn't left my pocket. If you know how many knives I have as other options, you'd realize how big a deal that is. 😂 I haven't really thought of the handle as boxy but I see what you mean. Hasn't bothered me but everyone's hand is different. But yeah the clip is such a big fail that should have been easily avoidable. It really digs into your palm, I can't imagine what they were thinking with that. I bought one of the Civivi clips off of Amazon that has the storm anodization, it's titanium and they come in a set of two for like $12, I used the smaller one in the set and it has been way better in appearance and comfort. The bill of this clip sticks up way less than the stock clip does. As to the sound, mine doesn't squeak but it is more like a "schwick" sound, not that high pitched and I think it makes it sound really cool. I have the satin blade, maybe the coating on that blade is why yours is more of a squeak...might wear in and be toned down over time.

I simply screwed the clip from the Böker Magnum blue Jay onto the Civivi Vision fg. Visually, in terms of feel and in everyday life, it fits perfectly. 😅🤷♂️👍
So is this considered to be a wharncliffe, reverse tanto and sheep’s foot all-in-1? I have this knife and love it and I’ve always debated on which style blade it is. It says reverse tanto on the Civivi description page, but can see how it could be a sheep’s foot and wharncliffe also.
A midst the super hype of the Demko 20.5 I anxiously waited for mine. Ends up I'm not a fan the that lock, the tip of my finger gets sore after actuating a couple of times and in depending the position of my hand it can be difficult to close.
I love all the innovation we are seeing these days. That said, I edc my svord peasant the most. Just, fast, simple, never felt like i might fold it on my fingers.
I’m loving the Vision FG and the Superlock. I’m going to replace the clip with a Kizer titanium clip. Overall I couldn’t be happier with this knife. Definitely the best Civivi in my collection.
Lmao!!!! I knew what you were going to say when you said there was something that annoyed you! I got the knife center exclusive s35vn and carbon fiber and mine squeaks here and there! It’s so funny to find out it’s not just my knife but apparently a quirk of the design. I do love this knife regardless.
did you ever figure out where that squeak is coming from? incase you havent, i figured out where mine was coming from. its the spring not being seated properly. all of the sudden my knife squeaking wnen pulling the lock back. as soon as i removed the right side scale and released the pressure from my hand the spring dislodged from underneath the liner. so. if the spring is seated properly it should remain seated with out the liner in place. so how the hell do i know if the spring is seated properly? i with the finger im using to keep the spring in place i just roll the spring slowly till its seated properly.. anyways that was the issue with my knife. hope this helps and to anyone else thats having this issue.. take care
Never owned a civivi. For XL to XXL hands, sometimes the options are a little limited other than cold steel type designs. If I find the right design, might give civivi a go.
I agree about something needs to change with civivi’s pocket clips. Those are very uncomfortable and the generic ones that they use on almost everything “like my civivi bo” is just an eyesore to me.
I wonder if I'm the only one who disagrees.. Having a ton of different pocket clips, from CKRT to spyderco to gas station knives, ive had a to of awful terrible "Unique" pocket flips. To get a bunch of knives with a generic two screw deep carry has been fantastic for me. They are nice and minimalist in pocket, and they don't take away from the look of the knife. They are just pure function, and easy to replace and I love it
Bought this and the Civivi milled titanium clip at the same time. Like you, I also prefer the Conspirator. I like the super lock but I find myself constantly trying to use it as a flipper to deploy the blade.
I feel like it's a safe lock. I dislike button locks unless they are recessed to improve safety. Used a elementum button lock with gloves and had a close call. Not hating just saying I like how the superlock is out of the way and in a direction where it would be unusual to disengage it as you would have to grip pretty high.

It seems to bounce out of the detent when you close it sometimes. Demko shark lock doesn't bounce out of its detent when closing it for me.
Excellent review. Well done, Aaron.
Thanks so much really appreciate it
10:27 A group of mice is commonly called a mischief or a nest.
I love that sound! Hahaha, so funny. I like loud unique knife sounds.
Who was first super lock or shark lock
Not sure
So is this considered to be a wharncliffe, reverse tanto and sheep’s foot all-in-1? I have this knife and love it and I’ve always debated on which style blade it is. It says reverse tanto on the Civivi description page, but can see how it could be a sheep’s foot and wharncliffe also.
I swapped out the pocket clip after it grabbed invent within 3 days of having it. Now I have the milled civivi pocket clip and it's great
Appreciate the testing. Thanks
No problem!
How would this compare to a Spyderco Manix? They both seem fidgety, about the same edge length, and tip in line with the grip
I like the spyderco better
@@gideonstactical Thanks for the reply. I can't quite shake the interest in the manix, I'll probably have to buy it!
That sound is no longer on mine. The lock does rub when it’s engaging. All my paint has come off. Oil and is very quiet.
A midst the super hype of the Demko 20.5 I anxiously waited for mine. Ends up I'm not a fan the that lock, the tip of my finger gets sore after actuating a couple of times and in depending the position of my hand it can be difficult to close.
This one is definitely easier on the fingers.
Pop a Civivi Ti clip on it. No hot spot. I've also seen a Kizer Sheepdog clip used.
From the perspective of someone who does a lot of sharpening, it looks like they did the plunge grind right.
Thanks for the videos! Been following since the beginning and green background.
Another excellent review, thanks mate
No problem 👍
super late, but the squeak comes from the locking mecanism, I think... I assume from the spring that rubs on the sides of the housing.
I mean is the lock itself, not when you whip the knife open, just press and release the lock a couple of times, and you will get that sound
Not sure if the super lock is for me or not.would have to get online my hand to see
Hardside.. still no Grayl cap?
I am sure at some point
Looking to get my first knife, and the Damascus version is looking quite attractive to me
How did your plans go to get a knife?
@@JosephOlson-ui2pg ended up finding a kunwu x tao for a good price on the secondary market so i went with that
Nice thorough review as usual. 👍 Off topic of the knife, I am curious as to what brand and model that backpack is behind you.
Mystery ranch in and out 22 did a video last year on it. 👍 always appreciated the comments, and questions 👍
@@gideonstactical Thanks! I'll have to check that out.
@@gideonstactical That backpack video was very helpful. Thanks again!
My demko 20.5 does that exact same squeak. It’s annoying as hell like you said lol but still rock solid.
is this lock similar to demko shark lock? 🤔
I discuss this in the video
@@gideonstactical oh missed that part 😅
I love all the innovation we are seeing these days. That said, I edc my svord peasant the most. Just, fast, simple, never felt like i might fold it on my fingers.
Yeah, and isnt the peasant that you also keep the knife open by holding the tang thing so its less likely to happen than slipjoint
I’m loving the Vision FG and the Superlock. I’m going to replace the clip with a Kizer titanium clip. Overall I couldn’t be happier with this knife. Definitely the best Civivi in my collection.
I just did that to mine!! Sweet knife!
The banter clip fits too
I like this knive, but I will like in drones wash Blade with Micarta. The way you test it really show the well bilt the knive is
Civivi synergy 4
Great video keep them coming
I agree about something needs to change with civivi’s pocket clips. Those are very uncomfortable and the generic ones that they use on almost everything “like my civivi bo” is just an eyesore to me.
I wonder if I'm the only one who disagrees..
Having a ton of different pocket clips, from CKRT to spyderco to gas station knives, ive had a to of awful terrible "Unique" pocket flips.
To get a bunch of knives with a generic two screw deep carry has been fantastic for me. They are nice and minimalist in pocket, and they don't take away from the look of the knife. They are just pure function, and easy to replace and I love it
Aaron given that the bill on the pocket clip is a major weakness, do you have a recommendation on an after market pocket clip? Thx. Paul
Enjoyed that I was curious about the lock
Bought this and the Civivi milled titanium clip at the same time. Like you, I also prefer the Conspirator. I like the super lock but I find myself constantly trying to use it as a flipper to deploy the blade.
You need to talk to Metal Complex about the pocket clip! He want off on it. It could be improved for sure. But I like this knife. Fair review.
Did you try putting some lube in the pivot to help with that mouse sound? Great video, looking at getting a vision FG myself! =)
My AD20.5 squeaks and it drives me crazy.
I feel like it's a safe lock. I dislike button locks unless they are recessed to improve safety. Used a elementum button lock with gloves and had a close call. Not hating just saying I like how the superlock is out of the way and in a direction where it would be unusual to disengage it as you would have to grip pretty high.
Really like you vid on this knife and different locks. Thanks and God bless.
