  • In this video,
    Spring is in the air and I move Linda to Limehouse.
    I make the framing for the gunwale and pad it out with insulation.
    Give it a nice covering of calico.

    I am just catching up. Lots going on here. Love the wooden ceiling from the previous video. It looks fantastic, and just the right amount of panels. Great job Canice. So glad your bow didn’t get caught and have you flipped over 😱. Inside is looking great. You are certainly doing a lot of intricate work and Lynda and treating her with the respect she deserves. Hope all is well and your spring has arrived and stayed there. We had it for two weeks and today….snow ❄️ ⛄️ 😢.

    good on you Canice, your approach and philosophy is something the modern western world really really needs to, collectively, rediscover and reconnect with... self-reliance, ingenuity, frugal to a fault, re-use, reduce waste, recycle, constant learning, creating your own build environment. You are showing through action, and in so many ways, the counter narrative to the "single-use, throw-away, hyper-consumerism, money-culture" challenges within todays society. " The Canice Counter to Consumer Culture" needs to be developed into a handbook... just sayin'

      This is spot on! There is also a creativity to finding old stuff and reusing it in an appropriate manner. The boat is 114years old, and if I can find stuff the same age to use on the inside I will.
      It’s out there to be found!😀

    Yes! Love the knees. All that needs to finish it is tongue and groove small enough to naturally curve with the shape described by the knees. You could get a nice hammer-beam effect by making decorative corbels where the upper cabin walls meet the roof. Looking down the cabin, the shape that would suggest would be like a Tudor arch--curved inside corners pointing to an angular peak. Nice.

    • @canicebannon
      @canicebannon  4 месяца назад

      I would love that! In the very aft cabin there are two carved heads doing the very same job!

    • @canicebannon
      @canicebannon  4 месяца назад

      I’m also hoping to make a bit of panelling and combine that with the “tongue and groove. I’m at early stages of thinking about how I would accomplish this….
      I may still change my mind and go for tongue a groove for the whole lot….

    Good Spring Morning! Nice neighbourhood you moved to. A lot of work done! Excellent. The only thing I am a little worried about is the underside of the side decks. I noticed that almost all the condensation formed on the horizontal parts of the steel. So it is wise to adhere some insulation material like armaflex to the undersides. But now you have greased it already...that makes it difficult. But check regular if there are big droplets of condensation forming under the side decks.

    • @canicebannon
      @canicebannon  4 месяца назад +1

      I did look into armaflex and it’s quite expensive. I understand the issue. But there is a reason why I’m going out of my way to ensure disassembling the interior will be super easy. (you only need to undo the nuts and battens fall off)….
      The decks need to be replaced. I’ve welded loads of patches all over them and it has ensured it’s watertight for the moment. But they will need to be replaced.and when that happens the interior has to come out. I’ll be a millionaire by then and won’t be a problem!😂😂😂😂

    I do think you'll finish renovating Linda and making her your home, long before 2075. One year ago, you could tell us and explain how you were planning to do the renovation and why you had chosen to it in that way. Now we see the progress with our own eyes, and in that perspective you have made quantum leaps. She will become a stunning home! Have a great week!

    • @canicebannon
      @canicebannon  4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you so much! The thing I may not have mentioned is that I want it to look like it’s 114 years old on the inside too! Which means finding the appropriate stuff at the right price! That will also take time…..😀

    • @glaerup
      @glaerup 4 месяца назад

      @@canicebannonBut as long as there is wood and plywood, you can make old school, framed panelling with a router, templates and a work bench. You can even use soft wood like pine, and stain it to look like oak or mahogany. Whatever you choose, -the renovation voyage with Linda will be a joy to follow.

    Please consider some colour inside. I spent some months in a wooden cabin. The constant wood drained me. I also had the pleasure of knowing a diver in the North Sea. I asked him (expecting a manly crude answer) what was the worse thing spending a month at a time under high pressure. His unequivocal reply. Colour!

      I may have to ‘fake’ some of the walls with plywood and they will be painted. I’m aware of the sauna effect and I’ve seen lovely paint jobs on the interiors of boats that enhance the wood. There will be some colour…. Farrow and Ball comes to mind…..😂
