Killer7 is one of my favorites. This is the most intelligent game i've ever played. You should play the other Kill The Past games, Flower Sun and Rain is also really interesting. Btw explaining the kid was amazing. I knew he was related to MS but i never thought much about his metaphor. Btw, Killer7 was originally meant to be a sequel to Flower Sun and Rain, so yeah: it was meant to have Mithra canonically. To have a much larger context, you should play both The Silver Case and Flower Sun and Rain. And look into the old Killer7 beta trailers.
I think the reason the metaphor never fully hit me until this video was because it took a familiar symbol-the yin and yang-and obfuscated it into a full paragraph, describing it piece by piece but never outright putting a name to it. It was like a riddle that takes the question that usually follows-"What am I?", an address to the audience-and tosses it away, leaving the audience lost…at least until somebody realized what Mithra was talking about and put it to paper/pixels/a video.
Also, I think that The Silver Case, FSR, and The 25th Ward are their own full trilogy; while Silver, FSR, and killer7 are the more well-known thematic trilogy.

This duality between America and Japan is even expressesd in the animation style. Americain animation in disc one and japanese in the second. This is meta as hell. Thank you very much for this vid
I remember reading an analysis on gamefaqs many years ago on Killer 7 and it utterly blew my mind how insanely deep the story is. This video BARELY scratches the surface. Also, it's a crying shame we never got a remaster of Eternal Darkness.
I remember being in love with this game when I was a kid. I was so into the story and the gameplay. Kudos for making such an in depth video on a classic. Hope to see another one on this 💯
I always knew this game was so much deeper than I ever comprehended back in the day so watching this video was a blast! I don't know if I could've enjoyed the game much more than I already did though, might seem weird but even though a lot obviously went over my head I still enjoyed every scene. Granted the gameplay isn't that complex (although that's not necessarily a bad thing) but where the game truly shined for me was it's incredibly artistically powerful aesthetics. And now all this only makes me love the game even more. I always did feel kind of sad about it seemingly fading into oblivion so thank you so much for sharing this and preserving the memory of this awesome classic 🙏❤️
Similarly, I fell in love with this game from the first time I saw it back in 2005. I beat it back then on GC and despite understanding less than 10% of the story and meaning built in the game due to being an ignorant teenager, I knew there was something extremely special about it. Just finished it again after 15 years and your video helped me fully realize why it's so amazing. You've got my support if you decide to break off into more videos and really put it under the microscope! Great work man
Amazing video. I actually finished Killer 7 tonight and it's insanely unique, creative, and inspirational. I love that there's enough in this game to keep an average person interested because of its weirdness, but there's also more to the game than just running around defeating Heaven Smile. There's a lot of really great philosophy in the game as well, and you find things like that out though reading all the dialogue given to you.
ok man, great summary and explanation to make some sense of this game. now, i want to have my complete 12 hour analysis for this piece of art, including everything but the kitchen sink.
"Who decided the universe must be this way?" Before I find out what it is I say it must be the collective unconscious we all communicate and feel a connection with all human beings in this world, never changing or twisted by ideology, memes, language and identities of others that allow us to strengthen our psyche and self to revive our people, nations and identity and respect those of others!
Actually I'd love to see you do more videos on this game. It's one of my favorite games in the same way that Serial Experiments Lain is one of my favorite anime. I especially want to hear what you'd have to say about the Cloud Man chapter.
I've experienced a lot of different games from the snes to nowadays, and this game is an absolute unique and amazing piece of art. No other creation or game could be compared to killer7. As decades will past in the future, Suda Goichi will be progressively considered as one of those who changed the game design and narrative in video games. Trust me
Wow an amazing analysis, you really broke it down. I hope one day we get a “Definitive Addition”, for this game like Suda has always suggested. 😅Atleast I wont be completely lost if that day comes. Keep up the great content.
I played killer 7 upon release back in 2005 and just finished my replay today. In the 18 years in between I’ve still never experienced a game like this.
Thanks for the video. There's no shame in having a little trouble understanding intelligent stories and themes. That's why we play/watch/read media of higher substance. To improve ourselves right? I hope this game keeps being remembered. It's a great advocate for the artistic merits of gaming in general without feeling the need to be completely nonsensical or film-like to convince an audience of that fact.
Points for realizing the synthesis of Harman and Kun-Lan in Emir. It didn't occur to me that's the kind of role he plays. A reconciliation of opposites.
Playes killer 7 just because the beginning of the video. Returned after completing and had a shit ton of questions answered 😂 hope to see a follow up vid! Thanks!
I played this game when I was 16(now I'm 31) and... more than the conflict and that Emir is conscious about what he is, is that at the very end Harman and Kun Lan appear to take control again and that they are necessary or that it is just game between gods I loved your video. This Game inspired me to become videogame developer and writer. Keep it up!!

Still hoping for a follow up to this video. I feel this one just covers the basics. Killer 7 deserves way more
I'd absolutely love further video essays diving into this title. Great work!
I dunno how I missed this. I'm a sub and I love this game going back to its release. Glad to see someone talking about it relatively recently.

I hope you do more Suda51 games , especially 25th ward and the silver case .
Amazing job on this video I hope the follow up video happens, this game is a hidden gem and I would like to see more people uncover it and describe it's complex details.
I can't thank you enough for making this video, I've been a Kiler 7 fan since it's release on PS2 but no matter how many times I played it I couldn't understand the whole story and there aren't so much inform online since this games isn't too popular, seriously thank you so much.
What a great time to stumble across this video after your Prey one. You should definitely make more videos on this game. It's a shame that this video only got 50k views...
Please make another video. I really like the way you help explain thing. It helps with my work for my game on taking about stuff like the unconscious mind. Thanks for the hard work. Keep it up!
Wow, this game looks so interesting!
My favourite ps2 game, grasshopper/sudo57 had some unique games
This duality between America and Japan is even expressesd in the animation style. Americain animation in disc one and japanese in the second. This is meta as hell. Thank you very much for this vid
There's Japanese animation in the first disc also
I really do want to see that follow up. Great job man. I love this game too much.
I like the new intro Max with your content I know we all will make it to 46&2 someday.
Hope to see another one on this 💯
loved this video, finally got around to finishing the game and have nothing but love for it
Thank god someone finally made this video. Killer 7 was criminally under analized. Thank you for changing that.
Pleeeaseeeeee my life depends on you making more killer 7 vids
Hopefully Max covers more of the "sudaverse" in the future
Similarly, I fell in love with this game from the first time I saw it back in 2005. I beat it back then on GC and despite understanding less than 10% of the story and meaning built in the game due to being an ignorant teenager, I knew there was something extremely special about it. Just finished it again after 15 years and your video helped me fully realize why it's so amazing. You've got my support if you decide to break off into more videos and really put it under the microscope! Great work man
I shoplifted this game in high-school from the bargain bin at Walmart, I thought the cover looked cool. Never thought the game would be so good 😂
Wouldn't catch me saying this. But good on you.
@@vandagylon2885 saying what? The truth? And if you didn't do what I did why would you say it? 😂
Dan and Kun's relationship is similar to Charles Xavier and Magneto both are enemys by idealologies but in reality are friends and have similar ideas
Please keep making more Killer7 video. You did a great job.
please make more!! i loved this!
This game is straight up criminally under rated
Max, that was absolutely brilliant! Well done.
ok man, great summary and explanation to make some sense of this game.
now, i want to have my complete 12 hour analysis for this piece of art, including everything but the kitchen sink.
still content and talk of Killer 7 in 2020: sexy! probably the best video on the lore of this game. fantastic job!
"Who decided the universe must be this way?"
Before I find out what it is I say it must be the collective unconscious we all communicate and feel a connection with all human beings in this world, never changing or twisted by ideology, memes, language and identities of others that allow us to strengthen our psyche and self to revive our people, nations and identity and respect those of others!
I knew it, Ive been watching too much of Max's videos
I want to see that supercut explaining all of killer7 🗣
Actually I'd love to see you do more videos on this game. It's one of my favorite games in the same way that Serial Experiments Lain is one of my favorite anime.
I especially want to hear what you'd have to say about the Cloud Man chapter.
Epsteine didn't kill himself 12:25
I've experienced a lot of different games from the snes to nowadays, and this game is an absolute unique and amazing piece of art. No other creation or game could be compared to killer7. As decades will past in the future, Suda Goichi will be progressively considered as one of those who changed the game design and narrative in video games. Trust me
fantastic video, loved Killer7 since it came out, I'm pretty sure the fans would love a deeper dive, I know I would!
Wow an amazing analysis, you really broke it down. I hope one day we get a “Definitive Addition”, for this game like Suda has always suggested. 😅Atleast I wont be completely lost if that day comes. Keep up the great content.
I played Killer 7 on Cube ages ago. Forgotten so much and not sure I had even caught half of what you mention here.
lol, yesterday I was watching a review of this game and now you upload this video. Funny coincidence
This was an excellent breakdown. Loved Killer7. Hope a follow-up comes
Your opening statements perfectly sum up my feelings for this game. It is honestly one of my favourite pieces of art.
I played killer 7 upon release back in 2005 and just finished my replay today. In the 18 years in between I’ve still never experienced a game like this.
You shall not be concerned (referring to thumbnail) this game just cannot be forgotten
Do a part 2!!!! I 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 Killer7
A reconciliation of opposites.
just found your channel, love your content brother, keep it up. btw HL changed my life too.
"To be the best, You also need to have an idea of the worst
& be able to execute it, if the scenario desires it as the best possible solution"
great video hope you do more
I challenge you to give your take on Flower Sun and Rain and The 25th Ward by the way.
Playes killer 7 just because the beginning of the video. Returned after completing and had a shit ton of questions answered 😂 hope to see a follow up vid! Thanks!
Watched one of my friends play a small section of the game and I immediately fell in love with it.
Just finished the game and watched this, thanks for the great insight!!
I played this game when I was 16(now I'm 31) and... more than the conflict and that Emir is conscious about what he is, is that at the very end Harman and Kun Lan appear to take control again and that they are necessary or that it is just game between gods
I loved your video. This Game inspired me to become videogame developer and writer. Keep it up!!
