  • I was looking for a budget friend log splitter that was capable and built well to hold up for several years of use. I've had this about two years and am very happy with it. Not it's not the most powerful but it has split everything I have put on it. Hoped this helps you make a decision on which splitter is best for you.

I have the COUNTYLINE splitter . When doing the big rounds vertically , place a couple of 2x4’s beside the base and those big rounds will sit level and are easier to spin for the second split . Good video . Del

That’s a great tip!! I normally don’t do any big rounds. I own a tree service so I keep all the 15” and under pieces for myself haha. Just splitting a big piece in the video to show what it will do.

When I split vertical with large rounds I keep a splitting maul handy, if they don’t fully split I just give them a whack or two and they are. Easier turning them when they are in half.

That log splitter was made by YTL International.
I'm an assembler and I've done a ton of splitters, but back when I was new I royally screwed one up.
After failing to source the parts locally I called YTL. What I got was the best customer service. Ever.

Dude, watch your control valve. Mine started failing to kick-off on return, had to watch it close. Then the back pressure (I'm assuming) caused the filter to break off... the threads broke meaning the filter attachment assembly was done for. So got a new assembly and ran literally 1 round through it, it failed again and blew the seal on the filter. So I decided to see if I could adjust the pressure (there's an adjustment screw under the cap on the back of the control valve). Well, the stay-nut on the adjustment screw was frozen, so I held it with a wrench and cranked on the screw with the required allen wrench.... and it promptly stripped, bad. Like, hey, this is seriously cheap metal here. So I noticed the entire adjustment assembly would turn by turning the froze nut so I'm assuming it had worked itself out of adjustment via vibration. But I have no idea what the heck kind of damage might do to the adjustment assembly so I decided to just replace the valve. I wasn't EVEN going to replace with a valve from YT Industries (given the shoddy materials of the one I have). So I found a County Line one at Tractor Supply for $150. Even better news... it was the ONLY valve I could find in town that was under $360. So far, it looks like all the fittings will work. HOWEVER, the supply/return fittings on the CL valve are bass ackwards and the handle will be on the inside (between the valve and the cylinder), meaning there's no way it will work. There's a couple of cleavis pins holding the handle bracket on... so if I get REAL lucky, I'll be able to get them out and rotate the handle mount to a useable position AND the hydraulic return hose is long enough to go on top as opposed to the bottom. This is a real sh**show. The thing is a beast otherwise, but I'll be honest. 2 big White Oaks, and 1 Post Oak... the thing has split everything I've thrown at it, some REALLY big stuff, narly and knotty etc. But that's it, maybe 4 trees altogether. It's no wonder Performance Built is no longer available. I'm probably gonna bit the bullet and go Eastonmade or Ramsplitter.
