melodic sense at genius-level. I don't toss the term genius around much, but it applies here. Schenker is the most melodic, rock player you will ever hear. He is simply on a higher level than everyone else when it comes to melody. Other great players can certainly come up with a great melody in a song. Michael can weave many great melodies together in the context of one song. Listen to songs like Bijou Pleasurette, Tales of Mystery, or any of his later instrumental albums such as Thank You, or The Odd Trio, and you will hear compositions filled with stunningly beautiful melodies - some simple, others incredibly intricate. It's not just in his songs either. The melodic sense carries over into his rock playing and lead style. His rock songs - particularly the instrumentals like Captain Nemo and Into the Arena - often feature beautiful melodic themes. His lead work is also incredibly melodic, even when he's blazing away at top speed. It always boggles my mind - how many ideas and melodies Michael hears in his head. Technique and chops. Pure German precision. Michael is an awesome alternate picker. He has blazing speed, wonderful elasticity, and a fabulous vibrato and intonation. All of it utterly controlled and consistent. He's a Porsche, a Mercedes, and a BMW all rolled into one. The Ultimate Playing Machine.
I'm a self taught wanker and I am the best in Bradford - even using 3 fingers! Mr Schenker is a gentleman when he is clean of booze etc, I have had the pleasure in meeting him 3 times over the past 30 years or so. It doesnt matter if he is not the fastest player etc, for me its all about tone and rythmn.
@khower quite a short performace, but much better than nothing! they should be back together again for new album and tour! i just found that they played a couple of songs together in 2009 in the house of blues. thanks again for your videos!
@Avasgranny1 Nice. Yes..I've met Michael many times...My friends played drums and bass for MSG for a few years. They all look really good...especially Michael. He looks better now, than in 2004 when I first met him.
Jeff Martin SLAYS the fucking drums, I particularly like the way he played drums for Paul Gilbert solo albums back in the day, minimalistic yet powerful sound. I never heard of Jeff anymore, do he still play the drums?
@nylonsteel Pretty much what I have put up. I may have not recorded 1 song...if any. Michael Angelo Batio, Leslie West, Schenker, Hellyeah and Megadeth played.
The guys that comment on "3 fingers" as a limitation are put to shame by MS...he does more with 3 than any 4 fingered player on earth. Django Rinehart anyone?
The guy complaining about the 3 finger technique obviously doesn't play guitar. Practically every guitarist now uses the 3 note per string pattern to shred. Petrucci, Vai, YJM etc
@Avasgranny1 He's a great guy. If you go to the PHOTO section of the Racer X website, I think the 2003 or 2004 NAMM show, I took a picture of Michael when we were at dinner....very haggered looking...and his cross tattoo is there.
@LillianAxefanforever Canon HD HF200 with external mic. It's nice to Michael healthy again. He's been down a dark hole for at least 10 years. My friend played drums for MSG for years, and at times it's been very ugly.
@kdjdhdbdb I'm pretty sure I have all the songs they played...which was only for about 30 minutes. It was at the NAMM show...so there a few bands that night...Hell Yeah and Megadeth were the dual headliners. I do not believe they played together before this...or why they haven't since.
Man thanks for sharing, Michael is my all time fave. Only had the chance so far to see him live once. I got some great pics that night, even a few videos here, not as great or clear as the ones you posted. What did you film with?
He's not using those. I think they are there ready for who ever is on next. He's using the Marshall stack to the viewers right. If you watch Into The Arena from this gig you can see him getting his customary feedback by turning towards the stack and not the white things - not sure what they are.
how many songs did they play together??? and why they don't do a reunion finally? Did they play together before this or will they? thanks for this great video!!! :)
awesome stuff, .....oh, and negative ignorant posters you do have the right to display publicly how far off the mark you are, carry on. myself i'm gonna go rock out to some Schenker
Set2light. You may have legitimacy to call Schenker "an alcoholic, a druggy, lazy, stagnate and unprofesional who regularly plays pissed on stage..." as it may have resulted not the best of quality in his recordings and live performance, thus costing him a lot of sales. BUT to take a personal attack on his fan base as "trailer trash" is equally unprofessional, lazy and possibily hypocrital as I doubt you would like to be labeled trailer trash of a person or group you are a fan of
That's what I thought but then everyone started flooding the comments saying how great he plays... I guess people nowadays fall for fancy performances more than concise musicianship

Exactly...all these guitar "legends" ragging on his 3 finger technique....meanwhile, they're all with perfect technique...in their room.....alone.
@nylonsteel
Pretty much what I have put up. I may have not recorded 1 song...if any. Michael Angelo Batio, Leslie West, Schenker, Hellyeah and Megadeth played.
Into the fire solo

@Avasgranny1
Jeff Martin and Rev Jones.
Anyone know what those white heads Michael is playing are? What brand? Not Marshalls
He's not using those. I think they are there ready for who ever is on next.
He's using the Marshall stack to the viewers right.

@@FeelingShred I´m a Brian fan too, he´s great without any doubt. But too fast is too fast! You´re right!
