I must play this to my mum, who was a member of the League of Ovaltineys as a tot in the 1930s and loved listening to their show on Radio Luxembourg

I was ten years old when this programme was probably shown. Those were the days! Thanks for the memory.

I wish my dad was still alive, he could tell me what the secret code meant! He would have been 97 this July.

There was an Australian version of the Ovaltiney's Club on 3DB Melbourne around 1947-48 which featured the 12 min. serial 'The Sea Rover.' The Sea Rover and Black Beard the pirate and the respective crews in times of crises,, paused for a refreshing drink of Oveltine - never a pot of rum passed their lips1 Each episode was condensed into a comic strip in the following Saturdays 'Melbourne Argus.' None of the episodes appear to have survived.

I was a OL member when aged 6. (I guess I still am as I don't ever recall resigning 🤔).
As a youngster I never missed an episode of the radio program, which was broadcast (a fully Australian version) each Sunday.
NOTE: The following information is for bonafide Ovaltiney members only.
The Ovaltineys secret message heard here can be decoded if one keeps in mind it was known as the ‘even number code’.
      Therefore 2=A, 4=B, 6=C, 8=D, etc.

_British Dance Band_ was a music genre which blended elements of big band American jazz with quirky English music hall traditions. It often had very hopeful melodies and lyrics - which ran counter to the reality of the 1930's economic depression. The soundtrack to _Pennies From Heaven_ also typifies The British Dance Band era.
