I don't understand this assumption that a person is "shopping" by looking at another profile. I like men, but social media makes me nosy and curious. If some lady wrote a suggestive e-mail to a coworker, I'd be the first to say, "Let's find this person" and believe me, it wouldn't be said out of romantic interest.

That makes sense to me that she feels that way, but yea I personally am on Ethan’s side because in my opinion this isn’t a case of window shopping. I think liking naked pics of girls or watching porn is actually worse than just seeing a person’s face that’s interested in you. Because the way I see it, you want to see how attractive that person is as purely an ego boost to yourself. Ethan really missed the point when he tried to highlight Dan responding to the letter writer as if it were the same as checking her profile to see what she looks like. Responding to her email was treating her like a human being - oogling her Instagram is treating her like an opportunity. Dan did the right thing.

Emotional Distress, honestly I kinda agree. There's been a lot of times when watching the podcast where there are some really dumb and shitty opinions thrown around, not even just from Ethan. A lot of the time it can also be from others in the group. What triggers me most is when something new is shown to them and the first thing they do is just shit on the idea and not even give it a chance to try and understand it first. In fact, I believe this is not exactly window shopping, just by guessing based on Ethan's personality, I would guess this is an ego thing. Yes, and I think Hila is not being too sensitive here, I get her pov completely, even though I'd be curious and check too (because I'm insecure haha). However, there are lines, such as your partner not allowing you to have opposite sex friends or even talking to members of the opposite sex, and just getting rid of half of my friends is a dealbreaker for me and is a sign of a controlling partner if you've never actually pursued anyone or explicitly cheated.

I think what Ethan is thinking and trying to say with “we’re married” is that he thinks their relationship is beyond things like attraction and looks. I think he means that he views Hila as more than a lover and like a life partner. So in his mind, looking at something like an ig profile wouldn’t even mean anything to him beyond his curiosity because that’s how connected and close he feels to Hila. Ethan is speaking from an existential perspective, saying that just because he sees a hot girl who wants him, he’s in charge of his own decisions and isn’t going to do anything.
From Hila’s perspective, she’s feeling insecure that her partner would check out attractive girls with no intention of cheating on them, because the possibility of him doing it exists.
Both are valid points and make sense.

Yeah this is my view. In the case of the video, I would 100% side with Ethan. Not because I think Hila is wrong, but that she's being so dismissive of what he's saying (and surely in a trusting relationship you should believe your partner when they say it's curiosity for curiosity's sake!). Her feelings about it are completely justifiable, but it's patronising and rude to assert that Ethan isn't capable of distinguishing ill intent from innocent curiosity, that he isn't capable of being curious without also having thoughts of being unfaithful.
In other words, Hila is being possessive and insecure and irrationally untrusting of their relationship when there is clearly no reason no motive to think Ethan would betray her for some random hussy. She is not confident in her own value as a woman and the authenticity of the relationship they have built together and doubts his honesty and the sincerity and devotion of his love for her, and is scared of even the most remote of possibilities that comes with the fact that Ethan is an independent thinking human being who has free choice and free thought and does not necessarily have to pick Hila. She should respect that he DID pick Hila, and believe he did so for a reason, and did so because it is his choice and it is how he likes it. It's an inner problem with her, not a problem with Ethan's mundane ordinary behavior of casually wanting to see who's talking to him. Hila thinks so lowly of Ethan to suspect that he would go down a dark stupid path that would betray everything he's ever said or ever done thus far in investing in their partnership to start over with some high risk fling with a completely unknown person. Hila is showing disrespect and lack of belief in Ethan and his ability to stay true to his principles.

I really felt this, I have big insecurities and my boyfriend has more or less said this to me, not that super models don't exist, but that I'm uniquely me and my beauty comes from both physical and who I am. You can't expect your boyfriend or partner to not be curious or look at other people and find them attractive, it'll happen, I think that's unrealistic to expect it not to. I think having respect for your partner and communicating and knowing what you have to offer and in what ways you're amazing is more important than if they're occasionally thinking someone is attractive.

I saw it more as “still got it.” Like it goes without saying, hopefully, that the person you’re in a relationship with finds you attractive. When a stranger finds you attractive, it feels a little different since there’s no doubt in your mind they’re being honest since they don’t know you. It’s a different kind of ego boost, like when your parents call you attractive VS a stranger at a bar.
Then again, I’m only 20, have only been in 1 long term relationship and a toxic one at that, so I may be missing the experience of having your partner validate you. But I never thought it was “could I get someone more attractive” and more “this is how people really see me.”
