I play masked hero's but I run a lot of the original heroes a lot more fun and love to see people's stunned face when they don't expect a flame wing man at the end.
Team APS I haven't dipped into any meta decks in real life at all, mainly because I don't either have the money or like them, at the minute I'm attempting to build a magnet warriors deck, purely because I love them
how does it kill skill? you still have to know what you're doing when you play those decks, and every duel is gonna have a condition thats unique to your specific duel. how does it kill creativity and variation? you never heard of tech cards?
@@JoeDirtisawsome kills skill because its built to be the best. Like in a fps like cod and using the meta class loadout or a sports game and using the highest ranked team. That takes a large portion out of the skill involved
@@Suhmstank but you still need to know how to play it tho. If a shitty player with a meta deck had a mirror match with a competent player, that competent player would win because they would know all the ins and outs to that deck. if a low level player's strategy gets disrupted, they wont know what to do after that, but a more competent player would have a back up plan. plus, this more competent player who know when he should use his effects.
Unfortunately the meta changing happens. I want to play my once-fast blue-eyes deck today, but with pendulums out there it's just too slow. Eventually yugioh will get to a point where a year-old deck will be unplayable in competition in future formats...
Missing one big fact. The number 7 downside to playing meta decks. It's actually NOT fun.You go into the meta thinking "Hey.I'm gonna play my ass off and have a hoot.".But then when you start you find out no one will give a damn about who you are. They couldn't care less about who's build you are running. They only see you as what a wolf sees a rabbit as lunch. And no matter how positive you are the players will just run over whatever fun you try to have. And then when you actually play something that can win you get called either a cheater or a bitch. That's the biggest downside.
So many players always talk about how competitive playing and the meta are fun but in reality it's like a Justin bieber concert.Little girls having bitch fights over his autograph.
This is why I always encourage the idea of playing whatever deck you like, and not being worried about winning. Meta decks aren't always better than rogue decks, they're just more popular because they're newer, and people want to play new shit. I also say that the true players are the ones who keep playing and improvise their deck regardless of the format. The people still playing Buijins and Inzektors are loyal and shouldn't be disrespected for trying. Another point is that when the meta becomes so crazy to the point it changes how we play the game, something needs to change. This format is so anti-card destruction it isn't even funny. We have triple Mirror Force, 2 Dark Hole and Raigeki in the game and nobody cares. It's crazy. Fire Fist format was one of the best recently in my opinion because they weren't overly broken, and allowed for rogue decks to do somewhat well.
Well, the Meta has something good going for it, you know? I mean, I remember when Yamato and Hirume cost a shit ton of money.. thanks to the current Meta, Bujins got somewhat cheap as chips. I just completed the deck a few weeks ago and I think Im going to hold on to it forever :)
Rogue Strategysts like myself are the ones that test the strenghts and skills of meta players, since they have specific card combos/engines that can be shutdown with 2/3 cards. As a veteran, I´ve spend my years figuring out which are the best strategies in general. And Even though I have the same decks since I started playing (just with updates) I have reached a level in which I can do my deck recipes and expand the whole original concept of the deck and make it work in combination with other archtypes/combos and even semi-meta versions. Experience and testing is very important, you´ll always learn something different when you play
I kinda treat my experience like the show, where my deck literally defines me as a duelist. I don't plan on changing it, unless I come to a point where I can't ever win, or maybe find something more appealing.
I've noticed that whenever I watch your videos that I automatically pause it, then click "Like" to make sure I didn't forget prior to even watchin it, whatsoever. There's always interesting and intelligent things bein discussed in them and both sides of a story are stated to make it less/non-biased; it's beyond amazing and I'm the same way when I converse about things, too.
I think I've only met two guys who played meta decks and had fun. One guy played Noble Knights and I don't remember what the other guy played. Both were friendly and had a flair for the dramatic, and we ended up talking and acting like we were in the TV show! Super fun times.
Gotta say, I love this vid, instantly. I say this as a player that..and no one is going to believe this shit, cause even my friends can't honestly believe it and they've been dealing with it for damn near the last 8 years.... ..but I have been playing Lightsworn as my single and only deck and just adapting to the meta and list swaps now for going on 7-8 years from when we lost 17 cards when Twilight got destroyed, Lumina going to 1, Honest to 1, Charge to 1, Sorc to 1, Gardna to 1..and so on and so forth all in a single list and they crushed all that we were into dust. As for why I do this and put myself through the pain of NOT getting to be the deck that summons 1 monster thats unlimited, and go plus 3 instantly..its just because I absolutely love the sac-aspect, and randomness of this deck that makes every single game I play different from the last in a huge swing that I am forced to adapt and work with from amazing to horrible and everything inbetween. Its just too much fun, and at times frustration causing to want to put down, as no single game I play can I just shrug off and chalk up to being "just another day in the life" as meta decks can and do practically every game BY THE POWER OF CONSISTENCY!!!!!! But yea, all in all, love the vid, totally can back it and it's message..but anyways, back to turning to my left here to this foldout table I have beside me with my mat and deck laid out upon it so I can figure what if anything I want to change in this LS/Twi build I have going on that I intend to take to locals in 5 hours. Thumbs-Up Team APS
I know I'm late to this party from 5 years ago, but THANK YOU for this video! I believe that creativity is SO important to deck building and when you're surrounded by people who only talk about the meta and put it on a pedestal like some sort of deity, you start to lose interest in the game.
I know I'm severely late to the party on this... But I'm glad this popped up. I don't play Yu Gi Oh, but I love your channel because it really speaks across games. Especially this video. I literally can't get people to understand that if 80% of players a playing a copy/paste deck, then a high win ratio isn't indicative of quality, but quantity. I needed this today, because I've been incredibly frustrated that most players I know or socialize with (MTG) only care about whatever the "Top 3" decks are. One player literally told me I couldn't play standard unless I run white or green mono because that's the top 2 decks. I can't believe they don't understand that you can run whatever you want that's in the format and still win if you build a really solid deck.
I loved this video. I have stopped playing Yugoh, but I still enjoy watching your content because you make it easy to understand (you don't have to be "in the know" to have a good laugh with the skits and they are relevant to other card games). My favorite deck by far was pure TrapTrix, ever since it first came out. You get to feel very bonded with a deck that you put your heart into instead of it just being another tool to win. And you get to be creative by using combos that were probably never considered before, even though that can be VERY time-consuming since there are so many cards.
@3:28: This is ultimately the reason why I stopped playing Yugioh. Why spend hours being creative when you are just going to get destroyed by a cookie-cutter?
players will side deck a lot against meta decks so if you are playing a meta deck your most likely going to lose 2 out of the 3 games unless you have counters to their counters
I was about to make the same observation. The more popular the meta deck, the more people are going to look for ways to counter it. And if they know in advance what meta-relevant deck you're running, every card that haunts your nightmares will be ready in their side deck. And some of those cards are sometimes so specific they would have otherwise never dreamed of running them. But against your deck, they murder.
I concur, it's pretty stale facing meta decks over & over. "What's different about your deck?" "I have 3 MSTs instead of 2." "Neat, my deck is made of cards you've never seen before."
Great job guys, i love the attitude, it's hilarious. You guys are awesome, may the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon bless you with her glorious power as you duel on!
Hey APS! I'm on a binge when it comes to your guys videos. The only meta deck I've ever played was Pen Magicians and that was because i love the colorful and fun vibe they have with how fast they are along with the art. The deck has a specific list i built myself and it's fun af, im really just writing this just to say it's great if you wanna run a meta deck but as long as you splash some of your own creativity into it giving it it's own identity.
My biggest reason for not playing meta: It's just not as enjoyable to me as running something out of left field. I have a Nekroz deck I've gone 4-0 at local tourneys, that's been gathering dust for weeks, debating whether to sell it or not; during that time I've been having a blast with a Ghostrick Lock deck, and recently put back together an old Uria build that's looking promising with the new Crossed Souls Trap Monsters. 2nd biggest reason: I live in a remote area...specifically Anchorage, AK. For people in the lower 48, no matter where you live there'll occasionally be a Regional or YCS event near you that you can be competitive at. Up here? The only way we get to go to anything bigger than a 5-round local event involves flying *clear across Canada* to get to it....which tacks a $500-ish plane ticket onto the entry fee. Would *you* go to a YCS right down the street from you if it had a $500 entry fee? (And if so...can I borrow a few thousand dollars? You seem to have money to burn, and I could use a little help paying the rent...)
that why i love playing morphtronics and evilswarms.there cheap and strong and always room for improvement to make them better.i got someone really salty today at my locals because i beat his BA dack with my morphtronic and boy was he salty xD
your both doing and awesome job. Just started watching your videos barely gave it a shot to be honest and I'm so glad I did yall are entertaining great chemistry y'all will be blowing up guranteed
I almost feel like I do better playing rogue than any other meta tbh. People see and expect people to play BA or Qli, but nobody expects random, out of the blue decks. Take YCS Charleston for example. Can you honestly say any meta players thought "Oh shit Volcanics are broke I better stack up those Royal Decrees"? I love the originality and creativity of people who actually take the time to play what they love playing. Not just netdecking a Satellarknight deck so you can beat people at locals.
Creativity is one of my favorite things about not playing a meta deck. I've been told that my decks have no consistency but I don't listen because I made them. I know what's in them.
Ha! Same here. I love it when a meta sheep looks at my deck and laughs because they see a stack of random cards. Then when I kick their ass, they call me a cheater when the truth is that my deck strategy is just WAY too complicated for their tiny little brain to comprehend!
I relate meta players to Bastion, doesn't care about having fun, doesn't care about favorites, just builds the best deck to win. I'm more like Jaden. Fuck your meta, fuck your unstoppable combo, I'm gonna use my favorites and make it work, especially now that my favorites are competitive for the first time since Future Fusion was banned. For those wondering, my favorites are Cybers. And I've been playing Cybers since Duelist Pack Zane, back when all we had was Cyber Dragon and Proto-Cyber Dragon. So I'm no band wagoner on the whole Infinity/Rampage thing.
Same, I just play 1 deck, and that is also cyber dragons, and people always ask "how do you have fun with only 1 deck?" and that is because I like the play-style of hit hard and fast and at the right time go for an OTK!!! And I'm also didn't bandwagon because of infinity and rampage, I've played cybers since I've started yugioh (if your wondering that was late 2012, yes that's very late I know)
to reason three my friend built nekroz when it was the meta and then it got hit by the list no longer on the 10 list but he still loves the deck and tries to find ways to keep it alive
I agree, I ran my own personal built deck for the longest time before trying out a red-eyes meta deck. I love my red-eyes don't get me wrong but it's true it prevents me from creativity cause these cards only work with each other "red-eyes" in name cards, I wish I could be creative with this deck. BUT I am gonna try to build my own deck I create myself and try to make it be able to beat supposedly "stronger" decks, I may fail but I will try. Thanks for the video guys.
I play Dolls, which I guess are not really meta anymore, but the main reason I play them is because I enjoy the playstyle of the deck. I really like the toolbox style that the whole archetype has. The fact that I can do well at tournaments is really just an added bonus.
I'll honestly endorse your comment. I tried Denko Doll with Jeff Jones variant and I really enjoyed the play style of the deck. I didn't care that it was meta or borderline meta but the deck really taught me much about the game like when I first picked up Mermails and its little intricacies. Hell I like the mirror matches as well because that was pretty much a fight of who opens more broken and who doesn't leave out a fusion but can make a push at the right time.
I enjoy playing ba I love the play style reminds me of lightsworn, and I can tell you that your not gonna makr alot of freind running a meta deck but imma stick with them if they get hit
The last reason was awesome, so many decks have potential to be decent at least, but people don't give those decks a chance.. just look at volcanics right now.. 1 trap card comes out for them and all of a sudden people go crazy for them, and boom.. shell and scattershot bump up to ~$5 each for the commons. I'm not saying every deck can be like volcanics in that sense, but what about decks like Sylvans, Mermails, Fire Fist, etc? They aren't exactly worse than they were when they were good, people just don't want to try and be good with them.. The meta is just too linear to care about, so people will definitely complain in that aspect. Good video btw!
I'm actually building a Utopia deck right now. Just because I remember it from when I left the game for awhile. I plan to get maybe a structure deck or something, see if I can modernize it a little, because I am only just now coming back to the game. But in its current state, I can get Utopia onto the field in the first 3 turns usually, even if it's sent to the grave, and the highest I could get its attack is above 5000. In testing that was with a lucky starting hand though. Utopia support protects those cards very well against being destroyed too, so it's actually working pretty well. Maybe it can't handle Ash Blossom, if someone wanted to use that to stop Rank Up when I tried to bring out Utopia Ray V, but regardless, I have backups plans in the deck for that scenario. I'm running Gagaga as well, which helps bring out not only Utopia but other Xyz monsters in my extra deck. I'd like to run some Link monsters but sadly I left before those were added, so I don't own any link monsters yet, let alone good ones
I have been play testing Volcanics and thought about entering another tourney after a nearly 3 year absence of this game. I had been holding on to 3 Volcanic Rockets (2 in french :D) for nearly 3 1/2 years because i loved the utility with summoner monk and i was just waiting for support. I always loved royal firestorm guards because insta +2 lolwut? Since it has become "mainstream" i dont want to play the deck anymore because it doesnt have a surprise factor and it is just not creative. I hate how that happened. Quality video as always (Y)
This is awesome. I just started playing after a 2 year break and was kinda discouraged when my gravekeepers had a 30% win rate. I started collecting Nekroz because I heard they were strong but now that I almost have them all Im noticing every build is a carbon copy of each other with the same primary goal. I've invested too much loot to turn back now but I want to mix em with gishki to have a little variety.
rly back in the day i was kinda returnging to yu-gi-oh everyone was playing synchro stardust dragon as that was the big new thing i showed up with my ancient cards hand crafted earthdeck with hayabusa knight and axe of despair in it and ppl where rooting for me, and I actually pulled of some wins and winning with a deck that's not supposed to win feels soo good.
The meta deck is the meta. Its no different in any card game that it will be costly due to supply and demand. But you always have the choice. Gone are the cheap meta deck days where you pay 3 structure decks for Agents which did very well in its format or 3 structure decks of Chaos Dragons and getting future fusion. Fun and cost are both pretty subjective in the game. Part of what makes the meta interesting is that there is some skill involved now because the mirror can be a thing so luck, experience and mastery of the deck goes a long way. And of course you have to do something about the mismatches as well. As of meta deck changing, there certainly is a life cycle for it and its to be expected. I used to remember when Rulers were the thing and odd enough what I didn't forget is that Mermails were a thing too and during Sept 2013 I made a mermail deck before it could be meta again. Sure I lost in locals because rulers were still the best deck but experience goes a long way for me. And most meta players look forward to the fact the meta isn't permanent because they don't want to play the same thing over and over again ad infinitum. Just a sliver of a POV from a guy whose used to play the meta and actually enjoyed it. I set a budget, spent money well, made sure to get back what I can for value since I damn know well the game is a perpetual minus anyway. ANd used that to go to card games I play for shits and giggles.
BludAardvark Good arguments! You're right about all of them. These were mostly subjective things we mentioned anyway. I actually still enjoy using meta decks when I'm playing more seriously.
my favorite deck to play is probably gravekeeper cause i love the slow pased game and how it feels like to see the look on my opponents face when my temple+necrovalley+shaman combo is out just amazing
My current decks Superheavy samurai Galaxy photons Cyber dragons Noble Knights Yosenju All rogue decks except maybe yosenju I love playing them because they are fun and I have to constantly think of new ways to make the deck better can't tell you how many times I've changed the SH Sam's Cyber Dragon's and Galaxy photons to not only be fun but spring a surprise on the meta
ICameforLaughs i've had so many friends end their turn because the effects they were planning to use would only affect my attack position monsters, particularly mirror force. my favourite play however is to use susanowo to steal fusion cards from the grave when they're about to be recycled.
+mafviseuking999 exactly alot of typical cards that are main or side decked are useless against SHS and I feel like since he's the MC best friend he'll continue to get support I'm hoping he learns accel synchro or double tuning but bright side he's the first to pendulum synchro
when it comes to using decks, I pretty much use whatever seems fun regardless if its meta or not...I don't care about winning because I just play for fun...
I'm just getting back into Yugioh since I played it as a kid.... I'm thinking of trying out a Red-Eyes deck to start off..... Or maybe something cool and dragon related.
I have a decent non meta deck the deck name i came up with it has 3 names Equip-Burn Reveruse Mirror Burn , or WHy you hitting your self? the main card of the deck or i would call the ace of the deck is Big Bang shot.
Good reasoning. I was into an original build pof naturia plant synchro that had like xyzs and like the flower princesses, then I started picking up mermails, but I run like 3 A Legendary oceans to make some nutty TOADALLY AWESOME plays, so. Not 100% meta mermails xD
ive used hero decks since the day it came out although it has changed a bit off elemental heros and leaning more towards masked i still love it used to come first in so many locals with it
about the meta changing a big counter argument is that as the meta changes all the none meta stuff gets power creeped or for yugioh its more like power avalanche
always been a dragon kind of player & even when it was meta, i wouldnt play a it cuz of that reason. but i am really excited for the new Blue-Eyes support & even if its meta, im gonna play cuz Blue-Eyes always has been my favorite since the very beginning before i started playing.
I've a preference for the non, of course. That reason you gave, yes. I love them all, but the one speaking out against cookie cutting is magnificent, because it's a painful truth. It stifles creativity, and it's so sad! Because there are so many other decks, with sickening and wide sweeping plays. And none of them get to be seen! Only the same routines, again and again. Oh-ho, and how funny it is, how opinions are stemmed and turned upon a single match won against a so called "meta" deck, when one uses something other. Yet not a single eye is captured, nor head turned when a meta defeats its own! At my locals right now that is simply the state of the game. Of the last tournament, six were playing Nekroz. Three, Qliphort. One, Madolche. One, Satellarknights. Me and mine have twenty-one decks between us, and not one can be thought of as competitive. Oh, but how sweet it is when we win. How funny it is to see~ And it happens more often than I'd think to expect!
Fluffeful, masked hero, lightsworn, pendulem magician, speedroid, syncron, noble knights, dinosaur dolka lagia build, blue eye deck, geargera, super samurai heavyweight. I am working on a few others but this is all the decks i play with right now.
i agree with your list, im not a big meta player. My main deck is Dark Magician Girl based, with magician girl's and eye of timaeus support. I may not always win but i enjoy playing the deck. Ive gotten lucky and beat a few meta decks purly due to luck though lol
I use six samurais with great shogun shien. I don't care that he isn't popularly used. I do it for fun(and limiting the opponent, but that is mostly also part of the fun)
i really like playing non-meta decks like vylons they're my favorite deck i have ever made. constellars are a pretty close second or battlin boxers which is also really fun.
I personally love all your points as they are quite good. Personally I feel kinda sad about how there is such a big communication gap between casual and Meta players. As someone who does both, but tends more to casual cause I like my Dark Magician Girl a little to much, I can honestly see it. Plus casual is just more fun, me and my friend now get bored and build random decks and throw them at each in derp Duels. It is fun. Oh and then duels with decks built only around Gamble Cards. I reccommend those, as they are quite a blast.
derp duels for life. Buy a few packs then you can only use that. Got a bunch of xyz support but didn't pull a single xyz monster? Tough luck bro, gotta use it.
My issues; 1. New support. Unless you run the deck (like red or blue eyes) before the new support is about as much as building 2+ multiple structure deck decks. I still want sage and white stone but for the price of those 3 I might as well pray I get lucky with a box. 2. I remember when blue eyes couldn't even touch the meta and red eyes was worthless. It's annoying one sided trying to play against meta with a low tier deck.
+Team APS Do you guys watch other yugitubers? if so which ones. You guys said a few major yugitubers would fizzle in 16' in interested to know which ones
+Matthew McQuistion I didn't have any particular Yugitubers in mind when I made that prediction. But some of my favorites right now are MST.TV and AlintheaYoh.
Me I would play a META deck like Qliphorts (Just so I can combine Monarch with them for extra field control) Sadly I also enjoyed shaddolls but I don't have either deck. I am the kind of person who will play past meta. Like during the early - mid XYZ era I was playing Flamvell with rekindling at 3 kicking ass with shooting star dragon and red nova dragon. (the rage quits were real) then I started playing a little bit of everything. However, my favorite deck so far is Hieratic Monarchs. but if I had the option to play meta (depending on what the meta is) I would play it and keep it as my main deck even when it is no longer meta or wait till it is no longer meta to start playing it as I don't like to be another (insert meta deck here) player. So far currently the meta doesn't appeal to me. So for now going to stick with dark worlds.
you guys just have great energy when you are in the videos together. I am building infernoids too. i have a playset of the level 3, but i am not trading, sorry. i do have a level 10 for trade though. Good luck finding the level three for a good price.
I have a budget True King Dino deck (no hand traps, 4 Extra deck monsters, and 2 Dragonic diagrams). Its a deck based on meta decks from last format but with many budget cuts. Would you guys still consider that to be metagame? (Extra deck is Laggia, Dolka, Decode Talker, Tornado Dragon). Also I have no Raigeki, no Dark Hole, No hand traps, and none of that stuff. So meta, semi-mete, or meta based pseudo-casual, or what?
This video reminded me of a locals I went to in Canberra in January. Their was about 12 people and 1 player was getting really shitty with a group because they were making puns about a grown man playing with his PePe when he played. I said to him "if the TCG just kept the name as Performage and Pals like the OCG you wouldn't be having this problem right now." He gave me a really puzzled look so I said "at least tell me you researched the deck your playing with" He gave me an even more puzzled look after that I said "I'll take the weird look as a no" and walked off, He ended up losing in the finals to the Tribute Stun player.
I remember playing back in 2009 I have watched the shows hear and their and I'm reading the manga .So I want to know the gods are baned right and if they are ,are they still strong?
I definitely understand not being able to afford the meta decks. The most expensive cards I've ever bought were two copies of force strix for a tota of $40, and that was only after I had already built up every other card I needed for my RR deck over time.
My exposure to the YuGiOh meta was a culture shock honestly. Like, I played Pokemon competitively for awhile (video game, not card game) and in Pokemon, meta-viable mons stay viable, unless they are explicitely nerfed by GameFreak. Like Mimikyu and Gengar were. In Gen 1 before ubers were defined, Mewtwo was both legal and overpowered. Then again there really were no competitions in Gen 1, but basically all psychic types were overpowered because they had this extra stat that just gave them an unfair advantage My point is, I'm not used to the old things suddenly losing any viability whatsoever But honestly, in every other meta I've been apart of, people don't copy all the time, they come up with their own ideas, they understand the mechanics in order to put something really unique together, sometimes with a theme. Why don't they do that in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh? There's this idea in Chess where sometimes the skilled player will lose against a new player, because the new player will do something so unexpected, but smart, and the experienced player who hasn't learned the game but merely memorized patterns, doesn't know how to handle this weird move. So sometimes in metagames, you can win by doing the unexpected. Be creative people.
I got 3 decks. a deck made out of my favorite cards. a majespecter deck. and a cubic deck. my favorite card deck is jinzo's monarchs and 1 of each god card. I've been looking for a way to use thousand eyes restric and relinquished but I haven't found a place for them.
I do not play meta or like to play against it just becuase I know exactly what I am going to go up against, making it not that fun. I love to be surprised and bamboozled. So instead I play decks that are a little out there. For, example I play a pendulum alien deck with crowd control cards like extra net and summon breaker which I find makes for a fun game for whoever I play against. At one point I even made a card exchange exodia deck to let my opposing player win for the lols and once again it was fun. XD
I think I've played almost every deck. I'm planning to build Ritual Beast, Yosenju, Nekroz, Superheavy Samurai, Burning Abyss, and redo Gem-Knight. I think the only time I pick up meta decks is when I ran out of other decks to make.
I like to play, what I call, Meta-Rogue I call it this because I play Meta decks, with rogue or non-Meta techs, and I play the decks my own way, not in the precise way the ycs players do
playing meta is just boring. everyone pulls out the same moves and cards. if that's what you like, fine. but personally, i play yugioh because of the joy of building decks and experiment it. rather than winning while knowing it is someone else's build.
hy not take the old Meta that's been creeped out, and make a fun deck to play with it that actually enjoyable to duel with and against? Like, next year when Nekroz and Tellarknights are old news and their prices have dropped considerably, I'll take their cores and make something fun out of them. Just like a modern Yusei, I take old junk and make it shine. o: I've decided I'm going to do that with old Meta. I'll always main with my beloved Gem-Knights, but i think I might try out Kozmos when they get hit sometime and their prices plummet ^^
paul what would you do if a new deck u really like came out but its considered meta and is very expensive do you go all in and buy it do you make a budget version or do you w8
I play masked hero's but I run a lot of the original heroes a lot more fun and love to see people's stunned face when they don't expect a flame wing man at the end.
Victor Nino Oh, sweet! That must be a lot of fun. The classics are classics for a reason!
Team APS I haven't dipped into any meta decks in real life at all, mainly because I don't either have the money or like them, at the minute I'm attempting to build a magnet warriors deck, purely because I love them
Meta kills variation, creativity, and skill.
I'd say it's a mix. It can create and destroy those things.
Team APS Tell that to Trickstar players that watch their decks play themselves. (just an example, there are more).
how does it kill skill? you still have to know what you're doing when you play those decks, and every duel is gonna have a condition thats unique to your specific duel. how does it kill creativity and variation? you never heard of tech cards?
@@JoeDirtisawsome kills skill because its built to be the best. Like in a fps like cod and using the meta class loadout or a sports game and using the highest ranked team. That takes a large portion out of the skill involved
@@Suhmstank but you still need to know how to play it tho. If a shitty player with a meta deck had a mirror match with a competent player, that competent player would win because they would know all the ins and outs to that deck. if a low level player's strategy gets disrupted, they wont know what to do after that, but a more competent player would have a back up plan. plus, this more competent player who know when he should use his effects.
Meta... Meta always changes.
***** I was thinking it was a Fallout reference.
***** Oh, so he was. Ignore my ignorance.
Unfortunately the meta changing happens. I want to play my once-fast blue-eyes deck today, but with pendulums out there it's just too slow. Eventually yugioh will get to a point where a year-old deck will be unplayable in competition in future formats...
+Cameron Henritzy that has already happened.... lol
I understood that reference.
I play online and belong to multiple yugioh social media groups.I know what I mean.
It's called research. You should try it sometime.
Own them,research players,have facts.Anything else?
dragonmasterknight7 I like that reasoning!
Yes
During Fire Fist format, this guy who plays Constellars at my locals, came in 1st place for 3 weeks straight. It was amazing.
Deviant YuGiOh But constellars were not doing so bad during Fire fist format....
Deviant YuGiOh Uh, no offense, but even during the Fire Fist format, Pleiades was a pretty insanely good card.
There's always interesting and intelligent things bein discussed in them and both sides of a story are stated to make it less/non-biased; it's beyond amazing and I'm the same way when I converse about things, too.
been playing cyber dragons for years and I'll never stop I love them so much
I STILL run Cyber Dragons to this day
I think I've only met two guys who played meta decks and had fun.
I'm semi noob at yuges, and you guys are a HUGE help with rules and are just fun to watch and listen to! keep making great content plz!
I swear my friends and I can sit here and watch your alls videos all day. Such a unique spin on yugioh opinions and discussions
"You're exposed" lmao man great points! I still rewatch your old videos, they are always relevant no matter how old man. Keep up the videos :)
players will side deck a lot against meta decks so if you are playing a meta deck your most likely going to lose 2 out of the 3 games unless you have counters to their counters
"What's different about your deck?"
"I have 3 MSTs instead of 2."
"Neat, my deck is made of cards you've never seen before."
Oh yeah!
Great job guys, i love the attitude, it's hilarious. You guys are awesome, may the Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon bless you with her glorious power as you duel on!
Tenarren Stellanos Thanks! We appreciate the support! ^_^
Hey, us blue eyes players won worlds in 2016
My point exactly! I appreciate this video so much. I laughed so hard at, "I don't need sex because Konami fucks me everyday"
Tee Jay Glad you enjoyed it! And sadly, that last bit seems to be true of most Yu-Gi-Oh players these days... =P
Great discussion guys. I always enjoy these videos. Keep them coming!
***** Thanks! :)
You selling the nekroz deck?
Nope. Probably gonna experiment with it either this format or next.
Alright then.
Have fun with it haha
that why i love playing morphtronics and evilswarms.there cheap and strong and always room for improvement to make them better.i got someone really salty today at my locals because i beat his BA dack with my morphtronic and boy was he salty xD
Then the link era happened
your both doing and awesome job. Just started watching your videos barely gave it a shot to be honest and I'm so glad I did yall are entertaining great chemistry y'all will be blowing up guranteed
Thanks, man! :)
Fluff Fluff Thanks!:)
i love my meta deck, even if it drops out im still gonna run nekros its so fun. Btw, subscribed loved this vid :D
I always will play geargia karakuri. Love the deck.
Trell is like a cross between Jarvis Jones and Kevin Hart. Funny as hell yet hard hitting. Big ups to you my dude.
Creativity is one of my favorite things about not playing a meta deck. I've been told that my decks have no consistency but I don't listen because I made them. I know what's in them.
Ha!
Same here.
I love it when a meta sheep looks at my deck and laughs because they see a stack of random cards.
Then when I kick their ass, they call me a cheater when the truth is that my deck strategy is just WAY too complicated for their tiny little brain to comprehend!
you guys got me back into yugioh I've been coming to your channel for all my questions
Glad to be able to help!
Wish more people would think like you guys! I want to see nore variety in people's decks!
That's what i always tried to say thanks a lot guys!! thumbs up and i'm joining for more!
+Franco Palacios Welcome to the party! :)
+Emil Borchert I respect this.
Ooooooo. A fellow Cyber Dragon player who didn't bandwagon due to Rampage or Infinity! :'D
Same, I just play 1 deck, and that is also cyber dragons, and people always ask "how do you have fun with only 1 deck?" and that is because I like the play-style of hit hard and fast and at the right time go for an OTK!!! And I'm also didn't bandwagon because of infinity and rampage, I've played cybers since I've started yugioh (if your wondering that was late 2012, yes that's very late I know)
+Spyros Sakellariou Damn, that's actually really well said, lol I've just opened up my mind to that :D But still, fuck the exodia/burn players
Seth Duggan Because fuck people not using a sub optimal build am I right?
to reason three my friend built nekroz when it was the meta and then it got hit by the list no longer on the 10 list but he still loves the deck and tries to find ways to keep it alive
Been building and testing a Six Sams deck and so far its working. 😊 hopefully ill do good in this years regionals
Team YGO Newbs It's all a matter of perspective. Anything can be meta in theory. And maybe the heart of the cards!
Yeah it would be nice to see more decks in the meta, people just don't want to try and use the worse decks -_-
Very good video :) I agree with everything you guys said.
Seto Kaiba Surprised to see Seto Kaiba agreeing with the idea of not using meta!
I see a dislike.
Must be a Meta player who disliked it. Haha
TheRaptorhunter123 Wouldn't be surprised.
TheRaptorhunter123 20 meta players now
36 now
I'm actually building a Utopia deck right now.
If I were you I would just wait till the deck died down again before playing it. That way the surprise factor of you playing volcanics is there.
See Ron's comments in so many vids from rob dyke to yugioh
Stalker! :p
Haha very funny just pointing out jack screaming is noticeable XD
Lol yeah I get a lot of comments about jacksepticeye with this profile pic :p
This is awesome. I just started playing after a 2 year break and was kinda discouraged when my gravekeepers had a 30% win rate. I started collecting Nekroz because I heard they were strong but now that I almost have them all Im noticing every build is a carbon copy of each other with the same primary goal. I've invested too much loot to turn back now but I want to mix em with gishki to have a little variety.
Been playing dark magician since 2003 Makes winning all the more valuable. Dark magician and red eyes deck.
thanks guys. i enjoyed the video and it made me feel better with my cheap decks. (even though I also have a dark magician deck)
rly back in the day i was kinda returnging to yu-gi-oh everyone was playing synchro stardust dragon as that was the big new thing i showed up with my ancient cards hand crafted earthdeck with hayabusa knight and axe of despair in it and ppl where rooting for me, and I actually pulled of some wins and winning with a deck that's not supposed to win feels soo good.
Inspirational video. (Period)
videos very informational , what deck are u currently running team aps?
Meh I did play meta ages ago but I love playing my Scar-Red Deck and now with all the new resonators and Red Dragon cards it's even better.
+KasaiWolf07 your pic with your comment is 10/10
SMOSHOO Thanks. Always been my best.
+KasaiWolf07 You gonna use Tyrant when it comes out?
***** Of course, it looks like an awesome card. I wrote that literally before that card was announced.
wow :o
"Spermacidal lube" Lmao man I enjoy your video they are awesome! Keep up the great work
my favorite deck to play is probably gravekeeper cause i love the slow pased game and how it feels like to see the look on my opponents face when my temple+necrovalley+shaman combo is out just amazing
Some really good points.
Really love your guys vids wish I could play yugioh with you guys think it would be a good laugh and a lot of fun
My current decks
Superheavy samurai
Galaxy photons
Cyber dragons
Noble Knights
Yosenju
All rogue decks except maybe yosenju I love playing them because they are fun and I have to constantly think of new ways to make the deck better can't tell you how many times I've changed the SH Sam's Cyber Dragon's and Galaxy photons to not only be fun but spring a surprise on the meta
***** superheavy Sam's are amazing the comebacks I manage with these guys are hilarious and it'll only get better but I have axed noble knights
ICameforLaughs
i've had so many friends end their turn because the effects they were
planning to use would only affect my attack position monsters,
particularly mirror force. my favourite play however is to use susanowo
to steal fusion cards from the grave when they're about to be recycled.
+mafviseuking999 exactly alot of typical cards that are main or side decked are useless against SHS and I feel like since he's the MC best friend he'll continue to get support I'm hoping he learns accel synchro or double tuning but bright side he's the first to pendulum synchro
I remember I used to play dark worlds even like just a year ago and I was able to smash loads of meta decks, it was so fun
when it comes to using decks, I pretty much use whatever seems fun regardless if its meta or not...I don't care about winning because I just play for fun...
This is why I am excited for the new Red-Eyes support. There are sooooo many different ways to build the deck it is easy to make it your own.
Running a Harpie Lady deck, no fucks given. hahahaha great vid guys!
ive used hero decks since the day it came out although it has changed a bit off elemental heros and leaning more towards masked i still love it used to come first in so many locals with it
Trell's amazing attitude is why I play YuGiOh
about the meta changing a big counter argument is that as the meta changes all the none meta stuff gets power creeped or for yugioh its more like power avalanche
always been a dragon kind of player & even when it was meta, i wouldnt play a it cuz of that reason. but i am really excited for the new Blue-Eyes support & even if its meta, im gonna play cuz Blue-Eyes always has been my favorite since the very beginning before i started playing.
How funny it is to see~
And it happens more often than I'd think to expect!
My issues;
+Team APS Thanks! I didn't think you'd actually reply! Btw I'm hyped for my BOSH sneak peek tomorrow
+Matthew McQuistion Got a twin twist :D
+Daniel Gottschalk same two guys got infinity : (
Me I would play a META deck like Qliphorts (Just so I can combine Monarch with them for extra field control) Sadly I also enjoyed shaddolls but I don't have either deck.
So true, every time I'm going against high tier any thing in any game while using low to mid tiers people always rooting for me.
I'm here with my Gravekeeper and Exodia decks still using the same cards and still doing well
you guys just have great energy when you are in the videos together. I am building infernoids too. i have a playset of the level 3, but i am not trading, sorry. i do have a level 10 for trade though. Good luck finding the level three for a good price.
Gimme that Lv 10, homie!!
Do you have a pair of shadow imprisoning mirrors, or spell shattering arrows for trade? make an offer
Yea, I got an extra SIM & 2 SSA. You in the U.S.?
yes sir
Then what up? Let's talk pimps & hoes!!!
I said to him "if the TCG just kept the name as Performage and Pals like the OCG you wouldn't be having this problem right now."
He gave me a really puzzled look so I said "at least tell me you researched the deck your playing with" He gave me an even more puzzled look after that
I said "I'll take the weird look as a no" and walked off, He ended up losing in the finals to the Tribute Stun player.
4:43 lmao Paul, that's the funniest thing i've heard all day xD
said "If you play meta, NOBODY LIKES YOU" xD
I remember playing back in 2009 I have watched the shows hear and their and I'm reading the manga .So I want to know the gods are baned right and if they are ,are they still strong?
I play Karakuri Dracomist and have been using it for 2 years. Never got bored and costed me only around $100 or little more.
I definitely understand not being able to afford the meta decks. The most expensive cards I've ever bought were two copies of force strix for a tota of $40, and that was only after I had already built up every other card I needed for my RR deck over time.
current deck
bujins / performage (really good in the current meta)
six samurai and zefrad
My exposure to the YuGiOh meta was a culture shock honestly. Like, I played Pokemon competitively for awhile (video game, not card game) and in Pokemon, meta-viable mons stay viable, unless they are explicitely nerfed by GameFreak. Like Mimikyu and Gengar were. In Gen 1 before ubers were defined, Mewtwo was both legal and overpowered. Then again there really were no competitions in Gen 1, but basically all psychic types were overpowered because they had this extra stat that just gave them an unfair advantage
My point is, I'm not used to the old things suddenly losing any viability whatsoever
But honestly, in every other meta I've been apart of, people don't copy all the time, they come up with their own ideas, they understand the mechanics in order to put something really unique together, sometimes with a theme.
XD
Play qlidemise, you'll surprise them. Not pleasantly but still.
you played domain! what a good job, you didnt even have to wait a turn to tribued summon that monster! how rewarding it is!
I think I've played almost every deck. I'm planning to build Ritual Beast, Yosenju, Nekroz, Superheavy Samurai, Burning Abyss, and redo Gem-Knight. I think the only time I pick up meta decks is when I ran out of other decks to make.
I'm with you on yosenju, ritual beast, and Heavy sams and I'm slowly collecting all the gem knights and hope to build a deck.
Mario Stumblingbear This guy is the real MVP.
im selling a ritual beast deck to a friend for 30
I don't play "meta" decks, I mainly play a mecha phantom beast/genex/karakuri deck and an insect deck. But I really like how shadolls play :P
I like to play, what I call, Meta-Rogue
I call it this because I play Meta decks, with rogue or non-Meta techs, and I play the decks my own way, not in the precise way the ycs players do
playing meta is just boring. everyone pulls out the same moves and cards. if that's what you like, fine. but personally, i play yugioh because of the joy of building decks and experiment it. rather than winning while knowing it is someone else's build.
I play monarchs but I'm trying to make a galaxy eyes deck any recommendations ?
i have a meta deck for tournaments, but not for casual i got a shit load of otherdecks for that :P
*still likes the format from 2008* am I late, is Tele-dad still alive?
errr... Not competitively, but it's playable
hy not take the old Meta that's been creeped out, and make a fun deck to play with it that actually enjoyable to duel with and against? Like, next year when Nekroz and Tellarknights are old news and their prices have dropped considerably, I'll take their cores and make something fun out of them. Just like a modern Yusei, I take old junk and make it shine. o: I've decided I'm going to do that with old Meta. I'll always main with my beloved Gem-Knights, but i think I might try out Kozmos when they get hit sometime and their prices plummet ^^
paul what would you do if a new deck u really like came out but its considered meta and is very expensive
do you go all in and buy it
do you make a budget version
or do you w8
go all in and buy it and keep playing it after it is no longer meta lol
ninjaneos the 4th Invest in it. You get to play with it at its best, and even if its hit later, you can still enjoy it.
