Takes more thinking to look at the situation in a nuanced way. People tend to quickly forget alicent never wanted to be with the king in the first place, never wanted to have his children, wanted rheanyra to be queen until her father brainwashed her Into seeing things his way and used her to carry out his vision. • @LiquidAwesomePersonified
      @LiquidAwesomePersonified 2 месяца назад

Yep, legit - Otto was *absolutely* going to have her sent away to the silent sisters or to marry some northern or western lord, that's why you saw that lannister guy hitting on young Rhaenyra in s1; Otto talked the king into celebrating Aegon's first birthday with a hunt; but also turned it into a chance to marry Rhaenyra off to a lesser family, take another name and leave his grandson as the only "true heir" to the targaryan throne as a result of him inheriting the name, her being married, and no one being willing to accept a woman on the throne.
Edit: honestly... it's not a bad plan, he just didn't account for the fact that he's a sociopath who raised a normal woman and turned her into a pyschopath who raised the mad-man that would be king and his most loyal ally, his brother...... kind of says something about the family dynamic.....

Rhaenys seems to be living her own queen fantasy vicariously through Rhaenyra at the moment.
She clearly never got over getting what she saw as her rightful inheritance taken from her by a bunch of men. So now she creates a fantasy around her, of herself as a wise, patient and retrained queen putting all those rash hotheaded men into place.
But in reality of course, those male advisors she keeps shutting down and accusing of disloyalty make very valid points, war IS inevitable and it IS important to act now. They're not advising action because "men just want war", they're advising action because the war has already started and there is no time for dreaming about impossible peace.
She keeps encouraging Rhaenyra to not do anything as their situation grows more precarious by the day, and then goes off to Corlys to complain that Rhaenyra's council is in disarray, even though the main reason it's in disarray is because Rhaenys is on a power trip and constantly shutting everyone down.

idk what people and Rhaenyra expect from Alicent at this point. Ok, it has been a mistake, now what? She doesn't have power over council or control, and even if she did? What, she convices Aegon to abdicate? Ok, what about Aemond, he gotta be killed, right, because otherwise he won't stand for this? So she would allow for her son to be murdered? And also expect Aegon to live as abdicated king, while still married, with a possibility of male heirs? And other councillors to live as well? People do realize, that no matter how indecisive and passive Rhaenyra is, which she is, no matter how Rhaenys seems to hype this crap style of rule, there are still more people in power, including Daemon, who would just slaughter all the greens given Alicent somehow recognizes a mistake and somehow, in this pipedream fantasy sunshine and flowers world, Rhaenyra peacefully ascends the throne.
It is too late, too many things happened, people died already. It was a mistake, yes, but right now there is "no mistake".

She knows now Viserys did not “waiver” at the end. Alicent misunderstood his meaning not knowing anything about the Song of Ice and Fire. But, is of no importance now, the dogs of war have been unleashed even before Viserys died. The Green Council had been planning putting Aegon in the throne anyway. Rhaenyra is becoming very much like her father Viserys now: weak, indecisive, refusing to take action or listen to her sensible advisors who DO understand what's going on (except Rhaenys obviously who is equally clueless), and deluding herself into thinking this still can all be fixed somehow.
Young Rhaenyra in Daemon's dream was a powerful image for her state of mind: trying to sew the head of a decapitated boy back on, as if that could undo what happened to the boy and restore him to life again. She refuses to accept what happened and would rather engage in magical thinking so she can tell herself what's done can be undone, than deal with reality as it is.

Alicent can’t simply say “oops hang on everyone I was wrong!” and have Aegon step down and everyone forget everything that’s happened since Viserys’s death, but Rhaenyra seems to think that somehow untangling this misunderstanding can still fix everything.

33:31 - No, there are definitely times when it is too late, and this is one of them. Aegon's son has been killed so he's all set for War now and isn't going to back down, plus the rest of the Green council have already put their stake in things. They've committed treason against Rhaenyra and will be punished if the Green's don't win and she takes the Throne since she obviously can't let them off. There's simply no going back at this point, Alicent is right on that.
Some people will talk down on Rhaenyra for not just doing what her gung ho council says to burn everything calling her weak, but she was right to at least try to find a peaceful resolution even if their ultimately was none.
As Rhaenyra said, when Dragons go to war, everything burns, their not something to use lightly and a wise leader knows to use them sparingly and she was also right the Greens would also be mindful of how they use their dragons too.
Also it has to be pointed out your vastly overestimating Alicents influence and what she can really do, like say she tries to tell the Greens it was a misunderstanding on her part, what would that actually do? Would they actually listen to her and drop everything no? Obviously not. Plus theirs the big factor that Otto and the other Green members were already plotting to put Aegon on the Throne as was made clear after Viserys death, whether Alicent supported or not, the coup to put Aegon on the Throne was going to happen and things would likely have still gone this way. Perhaps it might have been possible at an earlier point, but at this point in time, theirs no going back on the War.

Actually no. The tragedy of Viserys is that (what he said in episode 3) he always wished of having these dream powers, he always wanted to see future events. What's that power compared to riding dragons?, he said. Sadly, he never had it. He made a mistake by choosing Rhaenyra as heir. He made the choice as a father, not as a king.
If he changed his mind later on, it would've crushed his relationship with the only daughter he had with his original wife, and he didn't want that. As a king, you should've taken the best decision for the realm, in this case, Viserys should've changed his mind as soon as Aegon was born, even if Rhaenyra would've hate him, but he didn't.
Also, he knew about ASOIAF, but since he never had actual dreams, he had no idea what the common foe was (The Night King). Due to him making a mistake of choosing Rhaenyra as heir, this huge civil war began. I don't know what happens next but I doubt the story of ASOIAF would be passed down again, since no Targaryen knew about this in Game of Thrones, nor Viserys nor Daenerys.
If Aegon ends up being King, he will have no idea what ASOIAF is.

King Viserys caught the same vision Aegon The Conqueror had of the threat from the North aka The Long Night and couldn't keep it out of his mind. He knew of the Song Of Ice and Fire, and the Prince that was promised, and also knew the prophecy would be fulfilled through Rhaenyra's line. I believe that was why he so adamantly supported Rhaenyra succeeding him. Not even Allicent could understand him. People with unusual visions are often like that- misunderstood.

    @yasmina3999 2 месяца назад +18

Wtf with the title? What fo you want Alicent to do? Say "Aegon, it was a mistake, give back Rhaenyra the throne, your son died for no reason"?
That's the consequences of shitty writing. The show keeps pushing the narrative that Aegon's only solid argument is Viserys's last wish which is not the case.
Aegon doesn't need Viserys's order, he bases his claim on tradition and precedent that made Viserys king over Rhaenys 30 years ago. But the show doesn't want to address this for some reason and puts all the blame on Alicent's misunderstanding. Even Pudgey and Spartan now start hating her because the writers didn't bother to give her and the green real motivations and backups for putting Aegon on the throne. It makes them look just stubborn and delusional for no reason.
I mean they did give her motivation in ep 5 when Otto gave her valid argument that her children would be in danger if Rhaenyra took the throne, and Alicent indeed had this belief for 16 years, but apparently she forgot about it the family dinner in ep 8 and now only Viserys's wish is her argument. if Alicent can't say anything better than "he changed his mind" to back up Aegon's claim, then why would the audience believe Aegon HAS anything but this illusion?
I hate this show change so much because it undermines everything: world building, motivations and the message of the story
Ignoring the political arguments of the Greens harms the story not only as an entertainment work, which initially provided audience with an interesting conflict in which both sides have strong claims, it also leads to simplifying the political side of the issue. It weakens the message of the story laid down by both the author of the book and the creator of the show in numerous interviews and podcasts- criticism of the monarchical system and especially vague , uncodified laws and contradictions it brings with it. A system in which there are no clear rules, which ultimately becomes an excellent basis for interpretations in favor of one or another political party, from which the conflict arises. The point was that both Aegon and Rhaenyra had strong claims because the monarchy lets several claimants have legal grounds for inheritance based on different arguments.
Now there's nothing left from it because the show pushes an idea that Rhaenyra is not only perfect ruler but also the only one with legal claim.
How can you criticize monarchy and simultaneously push the idea that only one side is legitimate and everything would be fine if Rhaenyra became queen?

It was sir Eric because he called Rhaenera your grace, sir Arric wouldn’t have called her that because Aegon is his grace.

I think, at the end, Arryk switched sides out of remorse for killing his brother and anger that the Greens forced him into doing that.

@@mjbull5156 No, it was Erryk. Arryk wouldn't have changed his mind because Aegon is actually the true king.

    WHAT IS HARRENHALL ?
Harrenhall is the largest castle in Westeros, much larger than any other castle in Westeros. Winterfell, Storm's End, Dragonstone, the Red Keep, all these constructions are small compared to the most gigantic castle in Westeros, built by Harren the black who enslaved all the Riverlands to build his fortress as titanic as his ego.
When Aegon the Conqueror landed, Harren the Black refused to surrender, and Balerion incinerated Harrenhall, the flames so powerful that the stone melted like a candle, dripping into incandescent Magma.
Despite its ruined state, Harrenhall remains a strategic asset, as it lies in the center of Westeros, at the crossroads between the Westlands, the Vale of Arryn, the Riverlands and the Crownlands.
Despite its ruined state, its walls are taller and thicker than anything built in Westeros, and the size of the gigantic castle means it can house an entire army.
After these few military defeats against Rob Stark, Tywin occupied Harrenhall to prevent Rob from going down to Port Real. This is where Arya serves as his cupbearer.
Then after Tywin was forced to leave the stronghold to come to the aid of King's Landing during Stannis's assault and the Battle of the Nera, Rob occupied the castle (that's where they found Qyburn) and told Roose Bolton. It is therefore always in this castle that Jaime saved Brienne from the bear.
In any era, the army that holds Harrenhall is a bit like the central pawn in a game of tic-tac-toe, the one that allows you to block the opponent and control the movement of the armies.
This castle is also in such a state of disrepair that it is half abandoned, the lord who occupies it only inhabiting the least damaged tower of all. The restoration of this castle is such that even a Lannister would not be rich enough to achieve it.
In GOT, it is this castle that Lord Baelish receives as a reward in season 3.
It is also in this castle that the great council of 101 is held which we see during the introduction of season 1 of House of the dragon where Viserys is named successor to Jaehaerys. The old king held this council in this castle because it was the only one large enough to house all the Lords of Westeros and their entire household.
This castle was the stronghold of Lyonnel Strong, hand of the king of Viserys and father of Harwyn and Larys Strong. It was in this castle that the fire which killed the first 2 took place, making Larys the title owner of the castle, even if he prefers to stay in Harrenhall.

You missed that Rhaenys has already been appointed as hand to the Queen Rhaenyra. Her counsel has truly been one of reason and experience.

I read somewhere that the image of Rhaenys with the hand pin was fake. Corlys is her hand.

Interesting note, at the start where the Bracken guy said his sword is going to be good for killing Blackwoods, actually ended up being the thing that killed him. That was his sword that was sticking out of his neck T^T
