Hi! 👋 Happy new year and it's good to see you. Down to business, because you actually know the guy who owns/runs Castle Arts, ONE other thing that they could do if they REALLY want to up their game and have a chance at competing with all of the top pencil brands around would be if they give the consumer the option of being able to buy all of their available pencils as open stock/singles. This is SUCH an important factor when choosing to buy one brand of pencils over another. To some people, any brand that does NOT have the option of being able to buy singles is so important that it's a dealbreaker if they don't. Can you please suggest this to him because I DO really like Castle Arts pencils very much! 😃 Ps Hi 👋 from Australia! 🇦🇺
Hey Cat, I am in Australia too and I was wondering how could I order this set? The official website doesn't seem to have Australia as an option. Thanks!
Hello Harry, I have these pencils. In the booklet for the gold pencils on the second page where it has castle gold at the top, there is a section to the right with the title Features include: If you look down that list, the fourth one down says High level of lightfastness? Nowhere else in the booklet, on the pencils, on the case sleeve does it mention this. Only that one time. Can you give me your thoughts on this, because these pencils cost more than the original, and you said they were not lightfast regarding your pear illustration. Thanks Kevin
Harry, your pears are absolutely stunning! I always enjoy and trust your reviews. Yours is my favorite channel for colored pencil reviews. I look forward to your new content in 2022. But, to be honest, I enjoy your videos just as they are. No special effects necessary! I wish you and your family a very merry Christmas!
Castle arts customer service is fantastic. I bought these on black Friday but they unfortunately got lost in transit. A quick email later and I was put straight on the replacement list. Recieved them this week along with a drawing set as an apology xx hope you and your family have a fantastic Christmas 🎄
How much did you pay on Black Friday? Wondering what the best deal is on these. They are on sale through castle this month, but no where near as cheap as their regular line
Just ordered these as a Black Friday flash deal, can't wait to test them out. Great and very thorough review, thank you so much. My daughter mocked me, saying "You've got two hands! How many pencils do you need??" My dry response:"You've got two feet, how many pairs of gothic boots do YOU need?" Problem solved! 😎😉
Thanks Harry, great one! Castle is really on the ball with the extras like the books, thanks for highlighting it. Gah, Leaf Green is a really nice colour, hopefully a wallet issue and not a brittle colour. Can't wait for the compare to the Premium Soft Touch 120. Happy Christmas, and a terrific New Year to you.
Hello Harry. This is the second time I watch this review and as always it is very informative and comprehensive and entertaining, too. Thank you again for your videos. Thank you, Rita
Thanks so much for sharing Harry - the perfect review as usual! I have more pencils than I'll live to use but I love this brand! The colour indicator looks more accurate than the previous set, how do you think they compare? I found the previous quality to be fantastic but the colour indicators to be quite misleading and much of the pencils were quite similar...?
I have one oil colour pencil set only (yet), the 72 set of Deli. So I have no base to compare, I like the Deli but I am into watercolour and inktense, tinted graphite recently, so I used it only a few times, and when it comes to "regular" colour pencils, I am not quite sure which works the best for me, wax or oil, but I know it depends on what you want to "create" :) Your review helps me a lot because I already have put the 72/120 Gold Castle set on my wishlist a few weeks ago :) thanks! Besides, I have the Castle metallic 48 set and the sketch pads are really cool with the zip case. Those pencils are amazing! I have also the Landscape set of 24 Castle soft touch, but it did not take me off my legs. Castle Metallic pencils are softer though and are very blendable and good quality with a big colour range of 48 colours, considering metallic pencils and has reasonable price. I have many many decent pencil sets (FC, Derwent sets, Spectrum noir, Bruynzeel, Cretacolor, Koh-I-Noor Tri-tone, Stabilo Carbothello, the rest with pitt pastel and watercolor) nevertheless as I experienced, the reds/orange-red shades definately, and some of the blues and lighter greens always break easier. Maybe it is up to the ingredients?
I bought these cos I loved the normal castle art pencils but tbh I didn't notice much difference between these and the normal ones. Remember the majority of people are using these on colouring books so as well as trying them on the expensive paper, try them out on a colouring book because let's be honest alot of colourists as well as artists are coming to you're channel and I don't think it's fair to say certain pencils are Great because you've used them on expensive paper. Crayola would look good on expensive paper. I don't know whether you bought these yourselves either but I think that plays a big role as well. If you've just paid £70 on a set of pencils and there basically the same as the normal ones, you're going to be pretty pissed off but if you get them for free, I think subconsciously you get the expensive paper out and give them a good review and there's nothing wrong with that. I just think you should get a colouring book and test them on that. And I had eight broken pencils and when I emailed castle art, I got some generic email back. No hate, just wanted to share my opinion about the pencils ✌️
Thank you for the most thorough evaluation of colored pencils that I have watched. I water to buy another set besides Prisma and have watched so many other evaluations. Your pears were delicious!!!! Do you ever show how you color your work? I will now be tuned into your channel often. Your message was much appreciated. May 2022 bring you and all of us a real understanding of love, joy, and peace!
Great video review. I have the other set and love them. I lean towards a more waxy feeling pencil. But then again in Australia it's 35°Celsius and even an oily pencil behaves like a prismacolor. 🤣🤣. Can't wait for your comparison of the 2 castle art sets. Have a bloody brilliant Christmas. Waving from Queensland 🎅🥵👋
Hi Tracie I can only imagine how the heat effects the pencils, coming from Belfast N Ireland and living in the North East of England I don’t get to say hello to the sun that often 🤣🤣. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and thank you so much for your wonderful comment
Hello Harry....you do such a thorough review on the brand you are discussing. I have 120 Castle colored pencils and I think it would be really interesting to hear your comparisons. I love what I have now but if the performance of the Gold is superior, well then.... I had an issue of one of my greens breaking. I also had a scratchy feeling on Leaf Green 061. Drove me nuts. Since I started out with Prismacolor and learned of the breakage, I handle my pencils with care whether in a case or not allowing an individual pencil to roll and hit the floor. I also changed sharpeners and have had great results. So my Castle colored pencils are handled with care and still one broke. Anyway, I will wait until you do your review on the regular Castle colored pencils and the gold, before I jump in.
I havent used castlearts but I had a similar issue with my oranges in an arteza tin and when I contacted them they sent me a whole new tin. I imagine castlearts would do something similar (perhaps send just the breaking pencils, arteza sent me another tin as they didn't do open stock at the time
Thank you so very much and welcome to the channel, I really hope that the content I put up is helpful and beneficial to you. If however there is a product I have yet to review and you would like to see a review of it, please let me know and I will do my best to get hold of it and review it for you. My primary aim is to help artist, hobbyist, crafters etc get the closest thing to holding the product in terms of information on that particular product. I want to help individuals spend their hard earned money wisely and unregrettably, this is why I try my best to provide as much information as possible, showcase the products abilities on various papers and provide close up images of the product. I want people who watch my reviews to feel like the only thing they didn’t get from the review was to hold it in their hand. When I hear from people that they purchased a product based on my review and when they got the product it was exactly as I reviewed it, this makes me so happy because I know the person has not wasted their money. But the flip side is, when people by a product based on my review and the product was not the right fit for them, I feel terrible and that I have let that person down, but it makes me all the more determined to provide a first class review. I know I can’t please everyone, but I can sure try. Anyway, thank you so much for your support and I warmly welcome you to the community. If there is anything I can do to help you regarding art products, please don’t hesitate to ask. Thank you so much.
Great review Harry. I always respect your reviews. Can’t wait to see the directions your channel is going to go in. In 2022 so excited to see what you have in store for us. Happy Holidays to Harry.
Hi Harry. I already have Castle Art 120 set & like them very much. What is the difference between the regular Castle arts pencils and the castle arts gold pencils? Is there enough difference in the two sets to warrant getting the castle arts gold since I already have the others? Thanks
Another great review, I love that you included a test on the toned tan paper as well, thank you. Merry Christmas to you and your family 💜 Have a safe and happy holiday 👍
I am glad I finally subscribed to your channel! I am hopeful that you will continue to create and enjoy creating reviews and videos of your opinions! I like the current format and I am looking forward to seeing more examples of pencil vs. pencil videos. Thanks for everything, Please take care of yourself and your family. Have a lovely Holidays!
Very impressed! I have the original 120 set. I've always liked my Castle art pencils. I've got so many sets of colored pencils! Just 3 more sets of pencils that's came out this past year! I'm ashamed to even say how many sets of pencils I have, and I don't have a YT channel per say like yours lol. I follow a lot of coloring channels. But I'll definitely be checking into having the new gold set after the new year! Thank you for sharing! 😊 ❤! 👋 👋, Have a great and blessed New Year! 😊 ❤!
I wonder if you have watched Lindsay over on the frugal crafter? In one of her reviews, She did a sphere with a spirits and another with plain water! Almost every pencil was water soluble and we saw some dilution and mixture of the sphere! Please look into this aspect of your pencils as you go forward, if you wish. I found this quite revealing and I believe that water effects the binder more than the pigment, oil or wax seems to have no difference? Weird right?
Merry Christmas to you, and your family! Thank you for everything you do for us in this channel. Looking forward for all your reviews in the next year! 💕
There's some really interesting colours if those caps are true to the pencil lead colours. Wish they were in a tin though. Not fond of the soft-side case.
I just think, once again, the old saying will apply: “you get what you pay for.” Is anyone really thinking you’re gonna get the same performance as with premium color pencils, with the best lightfast pigments backed up by the highest overall quality control? No. It’s not gonna happen. Nevertheless, it is fun to take a look at the less expensive brands that may be better or not than other mid-to-low range price pencils. And for many, who don’t need or care or cannot afford to purchase the premium brands, these lower priced alternatives may be a great choice! Thanks for giving us the scoop, Harry! 👍
This black paper test is interesting, can you see if the pencil is more wax based when it is not translucent? Does this make sure that all not translucent pencils are wax based? Happy new year! 🎆
Hi Harry, hope you and yours have a lovely Christmas and all the very best for 2022 xxx Thanks for the hard work you put in for us and for the great reviews - and artwork xx
Thanks Harry! I really trust your judgement when it comes to pencils/supplies and you've never steered me wrong. I hope you and your family have a safe and cozy holiday season and I look forward to your next review! Merry Ho Ho & Happy Everything
Thankyou yes I am interested to see if there really is a difference compared to there Premium soft touch.Seasons Greetings, stay safe may the New Year give you all you wish for🌈
I know this video is around a year old, but hopefully you still monitor comments? You said that "you know I don't like it when they pigeon hole pencils with oil or wax". I just subscribed to your channel in the middle of this video because you are reviewing these pencils. I'm fairly new to coloring, but recently have made some significant progress in my skill level so I'm looking to level up some of my art supplies. Especially since I'm starting to sell some of the things I'm making. With that said, idk what the differences are between wax based and oil based pencils, but I'm on a really tight budget. My biggest struggle with my prisma colors is blending to create shadows and highlights, or trying to get a color outside my skill level. If one kind of pencil is more difficult or requires a light touch it's important? Can you help? I also need to know if they play well with other mediums like alcohol markers, watercolors, and/or gouache? I saw that you have an extensive Playlist of Castle products so I'll be watching all of them in the next few days, but I could use some help? I appreciate your excitement about their instruction guide. It's what immediately stopped me from looking at different brands. For now, all I know is I'm getting one of the castle sets with the guides and paper, and I want as many colors as I can buy in a zippered set so I can worry more about leveling up, without worrying about do I have enough options for whatever project I'm doing! Thank you very much for the thorough review. I've watched a few frogs to find the prince, lol. 😂
Harry. If you're anything you are NOT drab. But one request for those smaller brand pencils... could you do a comprehensive review of Colleen pencils? I've heard and seen a lot of good about them. They're from Thailand. I see the 72 set of Amazon US but I want the 120. I see it on Ebay but I'd like to know how you personally feel about the performance. I know taste is subjective but you are the reviewer whose tastes I think most closely align with my own. I've agreed with your take on any pencils that I have that you have reviewed. And that's a pretty decent amount. I'm here no matter what you do with the channel.
Koh-i-Noor do a set of 12 Browns, www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B328Q0U/?tag=tecpla30-21 there is another set of pencils called Schpirerr Farben I have reviewed the 72 set which is on my channel, but they came out with a 100 set not long after that and they also have a really nice selection of tans. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B071ZXPFLL/?tag=tecpla30-21
If there is a particular subject that you enjoy drawing like Horses say, and you need a lot of similar colors, Yellow Ochres, Burnt Umbers, Siennas, Burnt Siennas etc, what you could also do is buy open stock only the colors you like from various range of pencils on the market such as Derwent Lightfast, Caran d’Ache Luminance, Faber Castell Polychromos, Prismacolor etc. you don’t just have to buy sets and hope they have enough of the colors you want. Order the colors you would like open stock and create a collection of pencils you know you will use. Hope this helps
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday Harry. This year had been a tough one for all of us. I have not had a problem with depression in years, but for some reason this year, it has decided to rear its ugly head. I hope next year will be better for everyone. Have a Happy New Year Harry and family ♡
hello, thanks for your videos 😊 I have an Art metal cast and I would be interested in buying the gold ones because they are oil pencils. Could you tell me if there are any differences between these and brutfuner? (the ones that on Amazon are described as oil pencils, because there are also the wax brutfuners that I already have and they are soft) I was wondering because I know they are produced in China and maybe they are the same as the cheaper Brutfuners... I don't know, I can't figure out the differences. in the sense, is it true that the oil brutfuner are different from the wax ones or is it better to go to these caste art gold to be sure?
Since reading your reviews I have ordered the tin set but due to circumstances beyond my control they sent me the wrong item. I then went to the "other" site and ordered the same only because it was cheaper. In the meantime I had an Amazon delivery and get this. It was a gift from Amazon which was the 120 Tin box collection of Soft Touch color pencils like your giveaway product a year ago. I wonder why Amazon do this because I never asked for what they sent. It would have been much more welcomed had it been the new Gold set with the extras.
Happy holidays to you and your family. Life happens, Harry. Please be a little gentle with yourself, this year. Everyone is having things happening. Best wishes😘
Hi Harry, just a quick question. I see some of the pencils have been really sharpened back due to core breakage as you highlighted in you r review, can these pencils be individually replaced? I would think these are the popular colours and it is a bit much to have to buy another full set just for a few of the more popular colours. Great review as always.
Unfortunately, these can’t be purchased open stock. I had issues with core breakage during initial sharpening to swatch and essentially “lost” 3-4 pencils. I reached out to customer service and they replaced my whole set, as they don’t have open stock. Unfortunately my replacement set came with a few broken pencils.
@@QueenofFlannelColors Thank you for replying to my question. It is unfortunate that they don't have open stock. I suppose I will just have to take extra special care when sharpening and use them sparingly.
It has 11 colors which are not in the other set, 11 colors have been exchanged. All others have the same name and number, BUT: they look all different when you compare them (old color next to new color) thats cool, because there are many new colors😀
I personaly like the castle art they have many colors available maybe some singles could be available. I also have prismacolor pencils dont have as many of the colors I like but I am not professional so if lightfastness is the problems wont sprays to perserve the pictures help and undercoat. Also the tins are less expensive and buying directly really helps withe price but the pamplets and the case the papers that come in the case really made it worth it. I bought both sets and I mix the prisma castles and the black widows but I do really like the castle colors. I know that prisma if blended could gove me the color but I dont want to take thee time to get that color granted when I blend colors I know which one. I want now.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for the review! I'm assuming you'll also be reviewing the new set of pastel colors of normal colored pencils they put out, and possibly the metallic ones, despite not liking metallic colored pencils in general? They're interesting, I remember telling someone after swatching the metallic ones it would have been cool if they sold those colors but normal, without the glitter/metallic effect, because the dark colors, slight desaturated colors would have complimented their normal, very saturated lineup.
This is really interesting. I didn't know there was a metallic set. I think there is a a bit of a gap when it comes to more muted colored pencils or tinted graphite in a wide range of colors, especially since Sonnet discontinued their two pencil lines (still salty about it. Loved their tinted graphite and most pencils are almost too short to use now). There is only Derwent, art graph and mont matre at the moment plus Derwent Drawing. A budget brand with 36 or 48 colors would be great.
@@ma-rhianmck6919 I have the metallic set of 48 of Castle. Wax based, soft, I love them. Can be blended and layering easily, I have the one with the zip case and the 3 sketch pads extras. Cretacolor has too metallic pencils, they has a Megacolor brand (or spin off) which looks like a "jumbo" pencil (thick) and extremely pigmented and wax based. Besides, I have a brand Milan metallic pencils set of 6 and the Faber castell set of 10. I am in EU and as I saw, Castle has the biggest metallic set so far. I have too tinted graphite color pencil sets, one of Spectrum noir, next to the Graphitint 24 set by Derwent. I love them. There are 2 sets available of the Spectrum noir tinted graphite set. 2* 24 if I can recall it correct. (Colours are not repeated in neither of the spectrum noir pencil sets they sell. They have the regular pencils named colourblend, tinted graphite and watercolor). I am no artist and started to dive into this whole art business in this summer, but maybe it is a little information what I shared.
Happy Christmas, Harry! I really like your reviews, I am fairly new to colored pencil coloring, I color in color books. The softest pencils I have are some Black Widows. I am going to put these on my list to buy! Thank you again!
There is a pretty long intro . I almost left the channel because of that. I was very interested in these pencils kept me watching. Are these colors gold tinted with colors ? Please a yes or no
2 pencils out of a 72 set came without cores quality control issue for sure! Take out the case the paper pads the fancy leaflets these pencils are very cheaply made and it shows. I think the normal castle art pencils are a way better buy. While it's great to think there is a cheap "magic" pencil set out there.. Truth is there isn't.
I ordered the item on Wednesday as a present for my nephew's birthday and paid £9 pounds for next day delivery and when i enquired about it next day they said it will arrive tomorrow and its didn't then i got a text saying it will arrive on Monday and when i enquired with them, they just came up with a sorry and asked me to pay for the return of the item and this is ridiculous service. now i don't have time to buy from anywhere else as well. so i wont recommend this to anyone. there are so many other good products out in the market with better service available.

Merry Christmas to you and your family 💜
Have a safe and happy holiday 👍
Thank you for the review Harry. I would love to see these compared to other oil-based pencils in that price range.
Thank you Harry excellent review. Blessed Christmas to you & your family.
I purchased a Derwent pencil sharpener for my Castle Gold colored pencils and it's fantastic!
I think its a great idea whit the booket. My grand son need some New colorpencil, so this is a great chance to try Win them.
Hi Harry, thank you for another information packed review. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
Merry Christmas to you, and your family! Thank you for everything you do for us in this channel. Looking forward for all your reviews in the next year! 💕
There's some really interesting colours if those caps are true to the pencil lead colours. Wish they were in a tin though. Not fond of the soft-side case.
They are also available in a tin, and I think they're ten bucks less that way
@@MS-zo8tp they are actually cheaper in the tin. I usually buy them that way and put them in my own case, I prefer canvas rolls.
Happy holidays to you and your family. Enjoyed the review.
Looks beautiful, I love the colors they have.
Thanks so much Harry for this great review. I wish you and your family Merry Chritmas !
This black paper test is interesting, can you see if the pencil is more wax based when it is not translucent? Does this make sure that all not translucent pencils are wax based?
Happy new year! 🎆
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! You give great and informative reviews! Cheers!!
Thank you for the review, I have some of the previous sets and I was wondering how different they were
Another very informative review. Merry Christmas Harry!
Yes! Please offer Open Stock choice!
Great review as always! Your artwork is stunning! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!
Great review as alway! Love your artwork, absolutely stunning! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

Thanks Harry! I really trust your judgement when it comes to pencils/supplies and you've never steered me wrong. I hope you and your family have a safe and cozy holiday season and I look forward to your next review! Merry Ho Ho & Happy Everything
Harry, I'm here for comparative videos. Especially the colors in each set.
Thankyou yes I am interested to see if there really is a difference compared to there Premium soft touch.Seasons Greetings, stay safe may the New Year give you all you wish for🌈
Harry did you prefer the castle gold or the regular castle? Or if you don’t want to say which was preferable, which gave you a nicer result?
Thanks Harry good review I’m off to place an order !
I wish we had Zest-it here in the USA. It is not toxic or flammable, like odorless mineral spirits are. I wont use OMS. Always love your reviews!
Merry Christmas Harry, as usual, a great review. Enjoy your holiday with your lovely family.
Thank you so much for this review. I only have the Botanical set and the new Pastel tints, and find them very good .👍👍
I know this video is around a year old, but hopefully you still monitor comments?
I'm likely to buy it for the sake of getting the book.
His artwork is gorgeous!
Thank you so much. Your reviews are always amazing and extensively. 💐
Thank you so much Jule I really appreciate your wonderful comment
@@TheArtGearGuide so do i your videos. Thanks a lot and happy new year
It seems that all the pencils I have lack good tans. Have you found a maker who creates good tans or a continuum of tans?
Excellent review, Harry 👏🏻 And have a happy Christmas you and your family ✨👼🏻🌟
Fantastic pears and review!
Been waiting for another quality oil based pencil to be released! Finally...although polychromos are my best friend 😊 this is a good addition.
Great video. I love that brand.
I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday Harry. This year had been a tough one for all of us. I have not had a problem with depression in years, but for some reason this year, it has decided to rear its ugly head. I hope next year will be better for everyone. Have a Happy New Year Harry and family ♡
The pencils are a good deal especially when you get a pouch for them that would cost probably 15 dollars or more. Well done review!
Merry Christmas to you and your family Harry, may 2022 be a great year and may we all stay healthy and focus on positive things.
Hugs from Italy!
hello, thanks for your videos 😊 I have an Art metal cast and I would be interested in buying the gold ones because they are oil pencils.
Welp, I guess this is the latest art supply I'm saving for
Since reading your reviews I have ordered the tin set but due to circumstances beyond my control they sent me the wrong item.
I'm in Australia but they won't ship to us. Disappointing. Do you know why?
@@GazBower they seemed to do better using my AFMAT electric sharpener rather than my little metal hand sharpener.
Would these be ok for professional artists?
Are the colors the same as the original set? or new colors?
It has 11 colors which are not in the other set, 11 colors have been exchanged. All others have the same name and number, BUT: they look all different when you compare them (old color next to new color) thats cool, because there are many new colors😀
@@Rebecca640 thank you, do you have a comarison swatch?
Merry Christmas Harry from a cold 🇨🇦🎄
Happy Christmas, Harry! I really like your reviews, I am fairly new to colored pencil coloring, I color in color books. The softest pencils I have are some Black Widows. I am going to put these on my list to buy! Thank you again!
Merry Christmas to you as well my friend and the Black Widow are a really nice set of pencils, I think you will like the Castle Arts Gold as well.
You are such a beautiful artist!
Merry Christmas ..... 🎅 🎄
Donthese pencils have lightfast ratings?
Thank you once again. 😀
I really love your videos
These pencils are so good
Thank you Harry.
There is a pretty long intro . I almost left the channel because of that. I was very interested in these pencils kept me watching. Are these
colors gold tinted with colors ? Please a yes or no
😎
Great review Harry, as always.
Review prang?
Bad quality
