I just inherited two from my brother that need capacitor replacing. One is a 4R36 (which I won't know the battery until it gets here) The other is a 5M63. My mother got a quote over the phone of $100-400 EACH to repair them. I have the tools to repair them myself, now with your video, I have the knowledge!
I disassemble my Seiko Kinetic watch but forget little gear is concave or convex but thanks for your video, I able to confirm it is correct. By the way, I used the old gasket and bracket since it is the original old part and has to be fit perfect on the watch since it is made in factory. For DIYers, PLEASE make sure you have (something like in the video) holding on the metal bracket especially when screwing the SECOND screw, because the bracket can flip up and the screw will jump off and you may miss the little screw forever. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video and a job well done. Please forgive my ignorance, but on the Seiko 5M42-0E69, what is the purpose of the see through window on the caseback at 1:19?
Thanks Daud. On the Seiko 5M42-0E69, what is the purpose of the see through window on the caseback? Just to see a piece of the movement i think. Better then nothing, right? :-)
Searching for Seiko SJ22 movement capacitor replacement. The video starts with other Seiko movement so at a first glance this video was not suitable. Then found it at the end. Thanks. Did it in my SJ22-0D60 successfully but things look much smaller when you're doing it with the naked eye.
I really appreciate the work you are doing here and the quality of the video. Which lens do you use for your videos? The 100mm macro or the wide angle?
Thank you so much I have 5J22 QA90 and i broke the metal/latex strap and i cant find the replacement. Did you have any substitute that fit in that watch?
I have an "Oakley Timebomb" that uses the same movement. It does not have access from the front. How do I remove the movement from the case? THANKS FOR THE HELP!
Hello Sir Doctor Thank you very much for that video to share your expertise . I would like to asking a question for a subject. If you know or had experience , which kind oil could we use for orings in this kind of upgrade or fixing process. Why I am asking this question , because we don't have this brand and oil option in our country . Maybe you had know any other regular oils for this process. Thanks .
Hello! A very good video for me as a watchmaker is interesting. I subscribed to your channel and I will carefully watch your videos on disassembling and assembling watches of different brands, I want to repair both Rolex and Omega and other calibers. Thank you.
Is there any harm done if an automatic stops (power runs down) during a day/date change? For example, a Seiko skx, which takes 5 hours to complete the whole day/date change.
Apart from a new capacitor what else may fail in a kinetic watch, I have had the capacitor replaced 2 times and on both occasions the capacitors have only lasted 6-8months, the caliber is YT57 any ideas would be welcomed, thank you 👍
This video has convinced me. I will never buy a Seiko Kinetic. There is no reason (other than design) why a capacitor need to be more difficult to replace than a battery!
Hello William, "There is no reason (other than design) why a capacitor need to be more difficult to replace than a battery!" is this the only reason you will not buy a Seiko Kinetic watch?
My local jeweler said it doesn’t need a new battery/capacitor. Just keep shaking it. I’ve been doing that for days. No dice. Has the same stuttering second hand.
There is a much more horrible one than the Arctura there, that being the Pulsar Antonio Banderas Kinetic... you have to gingerly with a screwdriver try and find the little tab under the dial to release the stem and its evil hard to discover it as its a wholly top loader like the Arctura but the setting lever isn't the same arrangement nor are there cutouts handy to use. Took me couple hours fishing to discover the damned thing, very frustrating capacitor change, the actual cell itself was a doddle :S
As insomnia claims me I thought I would have a video up or two, am actually changing the cell in a 5M62, I was lucky too as I had bought a 24T in error when they were only a couple of pounds and I won off ebay a virtually unworn Seiko Kinetic with a dead cell for very silly money, glad I didn't send back the erroneous purchased cell saving me a fair bit at todays prices :D
Certainly true, and if there is still a nice history attached to the vintage watch, it is important that the watch case is not polished because the scratches are part of the story.

On the Seiko 5M42A, what is the screw size for the two small screws that are holding down that battery retention plate?
Thank you so much

Can one change the (Panasonic MT920, Coin-type Rechargeable Lithium Battery) here by just opening the caseback?
Hello, if you do this very carefully, and you follow the instructions as in the video, it should definitely work.

#25 thumbs uP Have you done a Citizen Eco drive Batt Replace?
Thanks Steve, yes I dit it sometimes. It's almost like a normal watch battery replacement, easier then a Seiko Kinetic capacitor replacement.
I hope your ok, I miss your videos.
Hello Blake Frost, I am ok. Sorry for the delay, very busy times in the workshop. I will upload a new video in a few hours ;-)
